The most surprising sound I've heard was a skyline gtst 25 r32 with semi race exhaust. Sounds like a v6/v8 mix that actually works quite well.

Not all cars sound extremely bad, it's just the majority outweigh the passable and the really good. like the LFA nurburgring package for instance.

I'm gonna list my favorites now.
  • Ford GT40 Mark I
  • Lexus LFA (and Nurburgring Package)
  • Mercedes VGT (Non-Racing) (Sterile, but still nice!)
  • SRT Viper GTS 2013 (w/ Sports Exhaust)
  • Ferrari 458 Italia
  • Red Bull X series cars
  • SRT Viper SRT10 Coupe (w/ Sports Exhaust)
  • Subaru Impreza Coupe 22B STi
  • Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI
  • Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4
  • Cizeta V16T
  • Gran Turismo Formula GT

I agree, all the cars are obviously recorded under load as Kaz stated, what they do with it afterwards is where it all goes kaput. They sort of computerize all the "inaccuracies" and the "dirtiness" of the sound, all the stuff that is removed is what makes the car great. Jaguar engines are among the most dirtiest and filthiest V8s ever, and I mean that in a good way, its a snarl a vicious unique tone that Jaguar engines have. Nothing clean about it, but PD fail to do that, they capture the car but not the soul, the essence. Just the bare basics is not what is wanted.

I hope to high heaven they don't get hold of the F-Type V8 S or R!

Now I dont know if it sounds like the real thing, but the F40 sure does sound nice

the V12 Vantage is probably one of the best sounding cars in game

The Chevy Corvette ZR1 Race Car has a great mean engine sound. I remember using this car in the early days of GT5, and the engine sound for this car back then wasn't that impressive, but after the Spec 2.0 update, the car sounds badass, and it still does in GT6.

Better than it was pre-Spec II, but it still lacks the Earth-shaking sound of the C6.R, the car it was modeled after.

You're asking the wrong question. It shouldn't be "best" sounding, it should be "most realistic" sounding. Any engine will sound good if it sounds real. I'd much rather drive a realistic-sounding I4 than a crappy-sounding V12.

I've bought myself a nice C1 Corvette '54 and fitted a racing exhaust. When I tried it out... the low revs are absolutely AMAZING, sounds like a proper V8, you HAVE to try it out! (the auto union type c streamline has the same sound, but not such low revs that the C1 has)

I hate to be THAT guy but the C1 we have in GT6 is an inline 6, not a V8. :P
