Best wheel for GT

I've played with a wheel a couple of minutes until this saturday, but then, my DFGT arrived and OMG, this thing is really the ice on cake. Playing with a wheel is a hundred times easier than a controller and a thousand times more fun, in more than less ten hours of play, I've improved almost all my lap times and managed to shave two to three seconds of every track. I've used to do 2:11:xx with a stock ford GT in suzuka for the A class GT allstar series, now I can easily do 2:06:9 and there's a lot of room for improvement since I always make some mistakes, but I'm getting the touch.

I don't know which wheel is better, but judging by the DFGT all of them must be enough, deciding in which one to get is just a matter of personal feeling.

So do the G27 paddle shifters work in GT5? I know some people in Europe have already received the game so I suppose this is directed more towards them. I asm asking this because I am considering buying a G27 today (if I can find a retailer that has them in stock here in CA, USA) :)

Cheers,

-Terry

I have G27, DFGT and GT3 RS vs2 wheel , I prefer g27 the most. I really don't care for the fanatec wheel yet CSP are nice. Yet CSP will not give you as much of an advantage in console sims like they do in PC sims. Console sims are still designed with a controller in mind (Race Pro is an exception) while PC designed more for the wheel.
Buying a g27 around $200 is a lot better buy than DFGT or Fanatecs wheel (I haven't tried the new Carrera wheel though)

P.S I bought Gt3 Rs V2 wheel because so many said it better than G27 especially for GT5. I was disappointed with the fanatec wheel but like CSP. I bought nixim brake mod for my G27 since you can't connect CSP directly to the G27 wheel which is required on PS3. I really like this mod.

Surely you can send me one. Who needs three?

This poll is a bit pointless unless you own all the wheels or have played them all for a reasonable length of time across a number of racing games.

However i'm a sucka for a poll so i voted Fanatec 👍

I didnt vote because I dont have all the wheels, only a dfgt. I agree with Neal and Dan_, I got my dfgt 2 weeks ago after a while of deciding whether to bother or not. I dont regret it one bit. Only used it with gt4 so far but im easily 3-4 seconds faster than my best laps that I set with a controller when I was at my best with it.

Hands down a belt drive Fanatec model. I had a G25 for over two years, but sold it after owning the 911 Turbo S Clubsport for a few months. I've had my Fanatec wheel for 13 months now. You need to turn down the FF in GT5P for it though, it is much stronger than the G25 and it doesn't have a mechanical deadzone so at default FF settings it will rock the wheel right out of your hands when it wobbles on the straights at high speed.

DFGT is a good wheel if only it had some descent pedals. Still the sponge trick does help add resistance to brake pedals. I picked G27 but if you want a wheel only for GT5 I would go with DFGT.

Theres no such thing as "The Best Wheel for GT" it all come down to personal prefference
but I vote for Fanatec because its an universal wheel (911 Turbo S). Plus the GT3RS, 911 Turbo S & Carrera has more to offer in terms of configuration, i.e Sensitivity , FFB ,Deadzone ect...

Another feature of the Fanatec wheel is that the LED can display game data such as speed, RPM or current gear etc. So far no console games have utilized the feature, but it does work in some PC games which were updated for it such as rFactor.

I had all three logitech wheels, the DFGT, G25 and G27 (in this order).

The DFGT is not so good, it is just for the people who are not willing to pay more than 100€ (which is totally understandable). It has a too light feeling, paddle shifters are bad an the brake and gas pedals give you no good response.

The G25's feeling is very similar to that of the G27. The biggest difference is the smoothness of the G27. It is very quiet which is important for me. I hate this "whooot" sound of all the other wheels when turning the wheel fast. If you do not have a problem with the noise or you are using headphones: go with the G25.

True in the sense a wheel can't make up for someone who have trouble driving in sims. Some of the best times in Forza 3 were from those who used the X360 wireless wheel. It's possible this could be true with DFGT in Gt5 as well since it is the official supported wheel.

driving force gt.
-it has been designed on purpose for and in cooperation with gt5
-it has the best quality/price ratio
-i prefer having a sequential shaft which works like the real thing than having an expansive H shaft completely unlinked from the clutch which works like a toy
-for what concerns the lightness of the break pedal, you just stick a sponge inbetween: you will have saved some 250euros from the largely overpriced g27 and still getting loads of fun :)

I am guessing it is now impossible to get a G25 in the UK for reasonable money?

Everyone seems to be "Discontinued" or "Not in stock" - I really do not fancy shelling out £350 or whatever for a G27 :nervous:

G25, you can find it used at a very good price, I got mine last march (replacing a DFGT) for 170€, as good as new...
the DFGT is a great wheel but when you try a g25 o 27 you'll notice the different quality of the 2 wheels in just a second.....

Quick question... does the G27 have more cables than the G25? I read a review and the guy complained about there being too many (which is obviously a bit dumb anyway) but he made it sound like the G25 didn't have that problem.

they have the same amount of cables as far as I know, one USB, one AC cord and one wire coming from the pedals...

DFGT always was a best choice for regular player: cheap, and it's just created for Gran Turismo (HOOORN BUTTON)
box
The official wheel of Gran Turismo
but the pedals... if I had bought G25, it's just for the pedals only.

anyway, I chewed this old thought again.

upd. ah, also I hate that sequential switcher on dfgt, useless, only underwheel switchers.

While I have a G27 and think it's a fantastic wheel, ANY wheel that is comfortable for you to play is the one to get (if you can try them all out first).

Fanatec makes a great wheel, but it's pricey and has limited purchasing avenues.

G27 is a solid wheel.....pricey, but available everywhere. (Just noticed it's price is going UP as we get closer to GT5 RD).

G25 is also a solid wheel with, IMHO, a couple of pluses to the G27 (shifter options)...good price right now IF you can find one.

Another thing about Logitech wheels it seems most software FFB has Logitech wheel in mind. Even on PC in Logitech profiler I set almost everything to 0 and make in-game adjustments. (ISR recommend this as well) The only thing I ever change is the degree of wheel rotation between 360 to 540. With the Fanatec wheel I have to make some kind on wheel adjustments for every game. So on-wheel adjustment is a necessity on the Fanatic wheel while Logitech wheel are more plug-in-and-play and those on-wheel adjustments are not really needed.
Fanatec latest firmware just added another wheel option (dRp) to adjust for WRC.

Well for GT5, it will have to be DFGT, with all the extra functions compatible.
Also, it seems the clutch wheels have a disadvantage when changing gears compared to the paddle. There maybe a slight time loss inbetween shifts comparing the two, as well as look at the revs between the two. Prologue was the opposite, hence clutch users with an advantage. For realism, clutch users shouldn't worry about this, unless it really hurts your lap times.

Does the G25 make the high pitched zip noise when you turn the wheel quickly? My brother's Driving Force Pro has always done that and I saw on a vid that the Driving Force GT also makes the same noise.

I read DFGT was a little more quiet than DFP yet all standard gears make that zipper noise when they are spinning very fast.

The G25 is a little bit louder than the DFGT. I assume that is the case because of the stronger FF of the G25.
