Better GT5 driver because of S2U?

Today I got bored a bit with S2U and decided to do some driving in GT5 again.
I played GT5 continiously from the release to about the start of februari. In Februari and March I didn't game that much and from the moment I got S2U (on april 6th) that's the only racing game I've been playing. Untill today.

I immediately noticed that the steering was a lot more responsive in GT then in S2U as was the FFB (contrary to what I wanted to believe...). It took about two laps on the TG track to get used to that though.

As I wanted to see how much worse my driving in GT5 had gotten because of S2U (I was convinced it would be worse) I decided to do some hot laps on the TG tracks in cars I did hot laps with before I started playing S2U.
To my amazement, I started to get close to my old records within a few laps and then all of a sudden I started beating my old records. Not by a few hundreds, but actually by at least a second!

So, I am now convinced that S2U actually made me a better driver in GT5.
Did anyone else have a similar experience?

If you spent that time playing GT5 you would have also become a better driver. Practice makes perfect.

That could well be it, ofcourse. I thought about this too.
Why I do think S2U played a role in this is that that game made me push cars further than I would normally need to do with GT5. But we'll never know ofcourse :D

I find driving in gt5 rather easy. Put on race softs and you can do just about anything Its very forgiving.....except for the foam markers in monza...that arent foam but cement lol.

I do love the ffb in gt5 though. The physics just dont do it for me. And after one race I feel like a zombie.

I think playing any driving game will make you better at all.

I prefer the driving in GT5 over the driving in S2U. I prefer the races of S2U over those in GT5 though. The part about S2U that makes it unforgiving or just not so good in my opinion is the fact that you never really feel what the car is doing and steering is just a fraction too late.

When my wife asked me how my new videogame was (referring to S2U) I told her that it was incredible, that the racing was so much more intense than the racing in GT5 but that for some reason I never felt like I was in the car. It never felt like the steering wheel I have in my hands is the one in the car. This has to do with both the FFB and the physics.
In GT5, which is now being called "The real track day simulator" by a growing number of people, I do have the feeling I am holding the steering wheel of the car. Sadly, the racing is nowhere near as exciting as the racing in S2U.

On a sidenote: I never put racing soft tires on a car in GT5. It definately ruins the experience.

Yep, there's no point denying that. Steering feel is weird, i did figure out eventually how/when the car will react, but there's really no true feel in FFB system. GTR2 is still the standard there. Which is weird, since both games come from the same people.

I remember one time I played GT5 and when I went to Shift 2, my driving was worse and it took me a few minutes to adjust.

Interestingly, GTR2 uses "faked" FFB (preprogrammed effects for various situations), and Shift uses the vastly superior RealFeel style feedback generated from the virtual steering rack :)

S2U INDEED improved my driving. Since several months of absence i went back to GT5 cause of the new seasonals. Had some nice time. After doing the seasonals and time trials I felt so confident, I returned to the AMG Academy, in which my best where a silver. At first attempt I could improve my laps on each section for about 6 secs. About 20 for the whole lap!

Today I went back to S2U and couldn't do anything right. Anything felt wobbly and inprecise. Even while driving my best cars in which I usually smashed the online-bunch.

My conclusion: S2U really improved my ability to manage ****ed up situations. And why? Cause in Shift while on the wheel you always feel like being at a ****ed up situation!

I won't come down to the racing-soft-thingy cause even at sports hards the feeling for the car, it's reactions, the whole situation between grip and no grip never felt more accurate then it does in GT5. And THATS the point.

It all comes down to the feedback and accuracy the program provides to the driver. And GT5 is the successor here!

The ff in s2 I wish was was exact from gt5. But the problem is I literally get sleepy playing gt5. No white knucle racing. Let me put it this way, I can play gt5 with one hand on the wheel and talk on my phone with a bluetooth np. I can only take my hand off the wheel to shift...in s2...and cant be distracted lol.

So yes I think any game that makes you concentrate will spill over into other games..not just gt5.

Man I hate those markers. Someone was breaking too late behind me online and hit me in the back at around 150m. I spun out and slammed into the 50m "foam" and instantly got sent to last place. And then I got 3 penalties just for that. Wtf.:grumpy:

Lol someone spun in front of me and I went off track thinking oh no biggie...then bam....wtf?

it has helped me a bti but its been ages since i played su2 so i think i've gone back into my usual driving again :P

it has ruined my drifting now though on gt5. used to be reasonable now due to me having to change it for SU2 so i could master the team nfs rx8 and win the championship i can't drift at all anymore XD is quite funny to watch, my slr just kinda slithers straight off the road in gt5 now :P

On second thought I think it is the house we moved to or the fact that we have a daughter now. Today my wife beat her time on the Top Gear track in our reasonably priced car by 7 seconds! The last time she played GT5 was in december and she hasn't touched S2U.

no idea, sold GT5 months ago. Terrible game.

:) I agree on the 'game' part. Ever since I've been playing it as the 'real track day simulator' I've been having more fun than ever.

I could never get to that part as apparently I am supposed to watch a car go around the track to make money or I could redo all the races I just did, twice and I might be able to afford one car.
