So, who among us has the biggest hard drive? Single storage volume of largest capacity? The most gigabytes if you will.

I'll start. 2.18 TB. That's 2,232 GB for the laymen among us. Giles? I know you have access to some impressive stuff. How about it?

Yeah, but after format data? If you have 2 80GBs or 1 160GB, you should have as much usable space as I do.

my bad, you are right i was just saying i have a 160GB hd, its a WESTERN DIGITAL ;)

I personally only have a 40gb laptop drive and my 74gb Raptor, which is awaiting a processor and ram.

My roommate, however, has 1.75tb of hard drive space on his PERSONAL computer. Thats ridiculous.

74 Gb. I'm considering purchasing an external HD for my personal files since my family doesn't really ask me if they can delete anything. It's become somewhat of a problem lately.

74GB :indiff:

Wow. What do you need that much space for?

Yeah, I know a few guys who have about 1.5TB at home. They keep movies, music, games, and lots of porn on them.

For home, see above. For work I am going to use it for our Archive data. I work for an advertising agency and we generate about 2GB of new art files every day. When a job completes it needs to be kept forever (for the foreseeable future anyway) and CD / DVD burning sessions tend to go long into the night and those forms of storage aren't 100% reliable. So we bought an Apple RAID with seven 400GB drives and configured it with RAID 5. That comes to 2.18TB of usable data. The first thing I have to do is move our existing 1.2TB of old jobs to it. Then we'll continue adding to it until it's full - at which point I will buy seven of whatever the current largest disk is and fill the other side of it.

At the rate we're going the device will be full in about two years. If I remember I'll post about the second half (:

My desktop: 40gb
Laptop: 40gb
external drive: 160gb
mp3 player: 40gb

When I'm in my room, I can have as much as 240gb worth of hard drives to make use of. When I decide to allow file sharing, It's up to 280gb :sly:

It's no LoudMusic 2.18tb raid array, but it works well enough for me. My next rig will have around a half terabyte most likely 👍

I just have a pair of 60GB drives at home. I don't keep much on them either. Frankly I see no reason to have more. Lets say one was completely full of music - that's 15,000 songs (according to Apple) and well over a month of continual music playback. Completely unnecessary.

I have about 12GB of personal photography. About 10GB of music (most of which I don't even listen to), and then a bunch of random stuff I've downloaded, like freeware, software patches, and videos of cars. I could probably put it all on one drive if I tried.

80gb of music = roughly 15000 songs. I'd know because that's how big my collection was last time I checked :P

1gb of personal photography

10 gb of movies

10ish gb of software and an image of my laptop that I made so I wouldn't have to go to my school's tech support every 3 days

20ish gb of dvds in ISO format

120gb of my drive is being used

121 gb of my 160 gig drive occupied right there
My mp3 player is loaded with a good 36gb of music (all that the drive can hold minus a few hundered megs for storage)
My desktop is about 10 gigs free, but that's only because of my 10 gig linux partition
Laptop - 10gig linux partition + 20 gig windows. Probably 10 free on it because of all the bloatware my school installs

160 GB Maxtor.

It's filling up fast. I've had it for nearly 3 months and 60 GB of it is used. If I have to, I'll get a second one for a RAID 0 setup.

Mmm...RAID 0.

mines nowhere near 2tb its only 750GB (im saving up for a 500gb one) there was one on ebay the other day. 400TB $3568USD I couldnt beleive it. it was large but it was worth the 3k the other ones this guy sold were going for 27k+

The interesting thing about "RAID 0" is that it's not really RAID at all.

Yeah he's got about 50-60 movies, about 220gbs of music (.wav) and he's got however much that is when converted to .mp3 format. He's a music junkie so he keeps the .wav for when he plays off of his computer and .mp3 for when he's on his iPod.

Just curious - why would you partition that small of volumes?
I assume it's something to do with Linux.

I just have 160GB. It's not like I'm ever going to use it, but you can get a 160GB for $20 more than something like a 40GB, so I figured what the heck.

How much do one of those 100gb+ hardrives go for? I'm still using a 20gb hd for my PC and I'm doing fine with that.

WD 120GB for storage... and two Seagate 18GB SCSI 160 in a raid 0 array for the system drive. :sly:

LoudMusic, I love the amount of space used/size ratio on your Mac Server :P I guess it has changed a bit since then.
