Brabham BT62

That would be a pretty funny deal

The point of bringing those up is they are low production cars on purpose, just like the BT62 is and they came from investment ventures. I wouldn't compare Brabham to Pagani or Koenigsegg, because it's not established. I name that was associated with Formula 1 nearly 30 years ago isn't enough, especially when there probably isn't too many in the market that know or care about that. They want to know the car is well built, will do the job it claims, and do so better than others to a point that it will resale based on it.

Right now Brabham is on the same level as most of those I named, and really my point in naming those was to show that many groups start with the use of a sourced mainstream engine. So it wouldn't surprise me if Brabham did as well. But again I feel it is still early days and a lot could go wrong with this outing. Lotus too thought they could sale off a former F1 name even bigger than Brabham.

I agree with your assessment. My take from Brabham being cagey about the engine is to avoid the fate of those others and strive for something more. They had me at 700hp n/a V8 with velocity stacks, so I'm rooting for their success. It's actually quite clever...they can be cagey about the engine and claim it's bespoke, but not have to worry about the sort of issues wheeler-era TVR or Esprit V8-era Lotus did.

Reminds me of this :D

I can understand that most people are criticizing the car for looking like a “GTA knockoff,” but I believe thats not the case. Their design team has done a fantastic job. And if you think about it, look at the F1 grid. Yes, there are strict regulations keeping all the cars looking almost exactly the same, but we all single out our favorites based on the name behind them and the drivers streaking around the track inside them. When you try to make the ultimate GT car, there are going to similar choices being made across manufactures because that is the best decision. The Brabham is a brilliant car and if you haven’t heard the thing running about on a racetrack, I highly recommend you do because the sound is simply amazing.

Adelaide-based Brabham Automotive has announced that it is targeting an entry to the 2021/22 FIA World Endurance Championship entry to the GTE class with their BT62 track car.

Branded as ‘Brabham Road to Le Mans‘, the manufacturer is targeting the jewell in the crown of endurance racing with the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The programme will be run and funded in-house by Brabam Automotive and their commercial partners, linking directly to the Brabham BT62 Driver Development Programme, meaning early owners of the track car will get a chance to test for the Le Mans Pro-Am entry.

As it stands, it will wow motorshow goers, gain loads of press through websites and mags etc - mainly through the use of the Brabham name, but virtually no one will ever see one in the flesh. It's not a road car. It's not a race car, it's a track day car that will probably get used on closed track days only to be seen by owners and their family/friends.

When I read this, I can only think of one thing: This is a toned down Ferrari FXX K.

Does look and sound magnificent, though.

Honestly think this thing looks incredible. Weirdly incredible, like I dont think ive ever liked one of these magic startup brand cars before. This is also the only australian car I like at all. And I'm an Australian!

Watching the onboard int the GTP post ( https://www.gtplanet.net/brabham-bt62-eats-gt3-cars-for-breakfast-with-record-bathurst-lap/ ), Luke seems to have a tough time trying to pull up for Griffins Bend. Pumping the pedal for a long time.

By the time he got to the Chase he seemed to have got some pressure in the pedal.

Definitely looks like it would be capable of going a second or two quicker. Glad I got to see it track side. Very cool car.

Also, headlights were uncovered on the Thursday practice run and then covered for the Saturday run.

According to an article I read on Speedcafe you're right, it should be able to go a couple of seconds faster, also having seen and heard it myself I agree, it is a very cool car.

Youlden admitted it felt ‘pretty cool’ to have set the time and believed the Michelin shod car could drop into the 1:56s bracket.

“I’m happy to beat he record but disappointed we didn’t smash it,” Youlden told Speedcafe.com.

“I’m peaking but at the same time I’m a little bit disappointed because we had a few little hiccups; I could go faster.

“It will well and truly do a 1:57s and maybe a 56s.

It should be no surprise it is faster than a GT3 spec car.
To begin with its not held back by regulations. So it has more power, less weight, more aero etc, etc.
Hell Porsche should have brought out the 918 EVO for bragging rights. They took it everywhere else.

It is not that hard to own a GT3 car. Remember these actual supersport cars that GT3 actually are get butchered by that BoP thingy.

The previous 1'59 record was set by Christopher Wien on an open day, driving an unrestricted Audi R8 LMS. He did lose a little bit of time in the last corner though as an F5000 car got in the way before the braking zone by switching lines.

A better choice of words than "that BoP thingy" would be "rules". As GT3 cars are supposed to have around 500-600 bhp and weigh 1200-1300 kg, and this thing has 740 bhp and less than 1000 kg as well as unrestricted aero - it should completely obliterate them. The power to weight ratio alone is around 50% better in favour of the BT62.

then just wait and see for the 720. I wonder how much butchering will be necessary on that chasis in order not to be that much overpowered too, probably way more than this one regardless it will have less HP. Aerodinamics on the 720 means serious business, and I can't on Earth figure how they're dealing with this fact too when trying to balance it with the others.

This thing covers ground in a hairy-assed hurry.

Loving tribute to some early Brabham GP machines. One of my boyhood heroes (Dan Gurney) drove one, so naturally I was big fan of Brabham.
