Good racing today everyone. It's very interesting to see where certain cars are strong in one area and then weak in another. I think this will be a very exciting season. One minor thing, let's all try to keep at least two wheels on track next week!đź‘Ť

Massive apologies for bailing tonight. Life got in the way for once.

Fingers crossed my connection holds up better next week! :scared:

Agreed about the two wheels.

Noted about the car choices fellas đź‘Ť

Right OK, few questions for you guys....

@neljack @azidahaka are you still Scuderia Fronzini for this season or are you going your own separate way?

@powwa25 @Malcolm Tucker @Dimse91 @MiuraSV @GTPvw_slc @Zootee @hurleyman24 @SpeedyMcQueen @flowaangelz do you have an team or entry name for this season?

@sibbystiggy @mrbrendon999 can I have your team name please?

@canyondrifter @Ian_83 I presume you're planning to run Perfect Apex Racing again if Ian can race? I hear @AudiMan2011 will fill Ian's boots if he can't?

I need car choices from the following drivers... @azidahaka @GTPvw_slc @SpeedyMcQueen

you might be right mate, but i'm not a tuner, and my free time has shrinked considerably (RL issues), so not much time for testing, tuning, etc on different cars...

btw take a look at bmw, it's way too fast. Same for renault.

Are you sticking with Nissan then?

Really? BMW should be alright, Renault could be though.

I'm with the Nissan but the 5 speed box, I think letting it down.
How many cars with a 5 speed box Rolo?

Sure the BMW got 6 gears, not a FF fan so not really tested any of them.

Funny thing last night was glenn turning in to Karsten in Q.
Game sorted it's self out when the grid results popped up.

Still funny to see Karsten over take me twice, then Karstan let me pass and then see Karsten off track

Anyway that Nissan going to be there in the rankings True-blue quicker than me.
And as I got a few 2:38 laps I'm hoping, well told him he can get 2:36 like the BMW's

Test races, if you look at results there's a pattern to be seen so far ;)

But yes, i'll stick with nissan, no free time to check for others. Captain madbean used the same car and we basically had the same speed and times.

Bmw has and uber impressive turn in and agility that might be due to tuning, but i doubt all the bmw drivers have the same one :D

Think it's just the Nissan with a 5-speed box. Reckon it might need some weight help? I realised last night that its times at Spa were pretty poor.. I was 0.9 down on my Ford with it, which is kinda a bit much.

Renault is good on the straights so it could need 30kg... I'll decide after Spa, testing has been so 'broken' it hasn't really shown me anything.

When is the deadline for team announcements? If anyone wants to team up then I'm open to offers, if not then I will run independent as MTMsport Racing đź‘Ť

Does anyone know if different cars have different slipstreaming strength? I found with the Renault that I was catching people quite easily under slipstreaming, and Renaults behind me caught up with me easily, but everyone else seemed to not catch up as easily. It could be that the Renault is just faster but it didn't really feel like it was, just very strong slipstreaming. On one lap I got a good exit out of Eau Rouge, caught a Nissan and then we were side by side down the whole straight, even though I exited the corner faster. What are the other Renault guys thinking? @DR_ingo5 @xflow1390

@CptMadBean that's strange lol, do you think it's a problem with either mine, yours, or karsten's connection? I got disconnected 3 times last night and I had to exit the game twice because it froze when connecting to the server and joining the room :scared: It's weird, I never had any problems and then a few weeks ago I couldn't join any lobby for a week or so. It must be PD/Sony though because nothing else has ever gone wrong.

The Spa test was incredibly frustrating. The Genesis seems to have the cornering balance but it just gets absolutely smoked on the straights. It might perform better on handling focused tracks, but it seems like I stand no chance at Spa.

Would of been good to see blue test last night, he would I'm sure of been faster than me.
Lets get race 1 out the way rolo and think from there.

Long staights 5 speed box going to be hard to find that great gearing on the nissan.
I also heard rummer of an update on here coming just before first race.

Who knows maybe the nissan will get a six speed box lol

Not sure m8 just the many bugs of the game

@Malcolm Tucker well.. whenever I guess, but obviously if your team wants to stand the best chance then having something fixed up by Round 1 would be good. Anyone who doesn't form a team will just score Independent points instead. Noted the name.

Renault is just fast down the straights I think.

@AudiMan2011 hmm the perennial FR problem doesn't go away... it's so weird. Power is impossible to spec check without kicking out the cars at higher weights, so it leaves me very limited room to move.

@CptMadBean if you want to wait until after Spa then fair enough but I'm prepared to act now if you feel you need the extra kick. Maybe do a quick test, let me know of any improvements?

Another update? Jeez.

I think tests are of little use with so few people and cars in... Yesterday we had 4 bmw, 3renault, 2 nissan...

@rolo912011 i think the fr/ff problem is hard to balance at this power and tires... But real problem is the chassys... A sport chassys will always be better than a sedan one, and those are machine dependant.

If you remember i sent you my suggestion for balancing out cars, and there was a disquisition about the cc, rpms, turbo and much more that i took the time to translate from official touring car rules.

Having together a 3000cc na car, a 2000 turbo, one that revs at 8000 one that 12000 and then ff and fr all in one pack is very hard to balance... If you deleted the post i might look at it, just as fun since it's now late to change anything, but i did use lots of time to write it down :D

6th March is definitely Thursday I can assure you. Regardless you're a reserve so let's see if any spaces come up.

Agreed with you about the tests @azidahaka ... can put them on but if nobody shows it makes it hard. And then people complain when there's one car that's too slow or too fast.

If you want to try your rule set idea karsten then feel free to have a crack and let me know the results.

I got wrong on day. And yes, it's on Thursday! I will try to get my Hyundai ready on this weekend.

I would if had the time needed, i remember the post i sent you translated from the official ruleset had different max rpms based to the number of cylinders in the car too. If you want i'll dig it out when i get home :)

Bit complex, isn't it?

I agree that the Renault is stronger on the straights, but I'm adiment it losses all the time that is gained, through the corners! (Especially compared to the FR's) Ask the bmw's that ran last night, I'm sure I was holding them up through all the bends.
And lap time I couldn't match them, and couldn't beat them in the race.
I think I'm a fairly good tuner and iv made the Renault quicker by doing so, but there is no time left in OUR Renault atall.
And In the last test with the 3 different track races my Renault and @rolo912011 ford was neck and neck, my Renault needed that little bit of straight to catch up around the lap.
And iv been giving it my all in these tests (no sandbagging).
Each car has it's strong areas but I just think that if we add weight/slow it down, the Renault will just loss it's only strong area.
Tuning makes all these cars quicker, so obviously a well tuned car with a good driver is always going to be a fair bit quicker than a non tuned car with a less talented driver.

The BMW is actually one of the slower cars on the straights even compared to the other frs so I think it evens things up by being quick in the corners. But trust me it didn't handle like that straight out of the box. I was getting very frustrated with it and was nearly ready to go with the something else before I sent it into Skeng to have him work his magic with it:P. Our pace yesterday came down to two things. Skeng's tuning ability and a whole heap of practice that we've done over the last couple weeks. For me it was a tossup between the Datsun and the BMW and the main reason I chose the bimmer is simply no on else seemed to want it. It's not an easy car to drive as proven by a rare spin by Skeng on the first lap of the first race and I think that scared many people away. It's a total nightmare on the exit curbing. Hurley is the only other bimmer in the field and as he's said he has previous experience with the car so it makes since that he'd be quick with it. The Renault is fast on the straights but is also a bit weak in the corners and again I think that evens it out. In my own personal testing all of the cars were very even except for the Volvo and Peugeot and this is coming from someone who is admittedly not very good with fwd. Obviously different cars/tracks are going to suit different drivers and different tracks will better suit different cars. I think this is part of the fun in the real life BTCC as well as this. But to say that the Bmw is "way too fast" to me makes me think that you've never actually driven it because it's a real handful. Certainly requires more focus than the other cars.

You can never truly balance all the cars pace, as each car can gain a certain amount of time through tuning, and some cars can gain more than others.
So one driver could balance the cars perfectly.
but someone else who can tune better or Worse could get in the cars and be quicker in certain cars, because of the difference tuning makes
The only real way to make all the cars even is to ban tuning.đź‘Ž

And we already have a stock one-make series on Tuesday. You've hit the nail on the head, different drivers and tuning is what it comes down to. As of a week ago Skeng was a second and a half faster than me at Spa. I borrowed his tune and it brought me to just withing a second. After that I spent many hours practicing and lo and behold it's down to a few tenths. Rolo spent a lot of time testing these cars and has undertaken a project that I would never be able to do myself. PD hasn't made it easy on us but I think he's done a fine job and this series is about as close to being ready to go as it can be.

As it's always been really, only the actual racing will reveal the trends of what car suits where.

I'll be honest that there are more FF-friendly tracks on this season's calendar, but with a new game, new tracks and new cars to fit in this series was always going to be a learning exercise.

It should only get better over the coming seasons.

One important factor is how different a cars pace is when it come too "race pace" rather than single lap pace. Single lap pace or testing pace is all well and good as a guide but its "Race pace" which is the really important aspect in my experience. Weak draft is always handy as a bit of a leveller which Rolo adopt's after that race test night's are about all a host can do of course he needs a good turn out for data gathering purposes.
