I think this photo posted earlier in the thread gives a reasonable indication:

How far is O'Hare away from Sears? 20 miles? 25? It's visible a fair bit before the edge of the horizon even on a hazy day, and the Burj has 50 more storeys. Wouldn't be surprised if on a very clear day you could see maybe 60 miles from the top of the Burj? The land is very flat in the UAE too.

(And with that, I'm off to bed. Been up for over 24 hours now since waking up in the UAE yesterday morning...)

Wow, its so high you can see the curvature of the earth in that shot

:sly:

What is the average ratio of 'supercars/uber-luxury cars' to non-supercars/uber-luxury there in Dubai homeforsummer? I'd imagine at least one Lamborghini for every 100 'normal' cars? :embarrassed:

Hard to say. If I were to put arbitrary percentages things like Lamborghinis, Audi R8s, Ferraris and so on probably wouldn't make up one percent of all traffic still, though it depends where you look. Outside the Burj al Arab the percentage is probably a lot higher!

As for ficticious estimates, I'd say 40% SUVs and pickups, 20% Toyota Camrys (the default taxi), 20% anemic small saloons and 20% everything else. But yeah, these figures are completely fabricated

Are you talking about the white thing on the right? Cause that's a camera housing I believe.

Someone should send that to Eyesore Of The Month. I'm sure it'll be there when they've officially finished. It's a beautiful building but the scale of it is just ridiculous. It looks like a joke.

That thing is MONSTROUS now. Wow... lol. It's beautiful! Its outrageous! What an extreme design. Who would've thought thousands of years ago something like this would tower over the world, and it was MAN who made it? It's like all those people who lived there thousands of years ago would look at it and think "is that where god lives?" And we're like... nope, that's just some office space for Micrsoft's customer support. lol It actually looks intimidating. It has something of a Empire Strikes Back look to it. It's like frail looking, but also very powerful...

I'm stunned, can't wait to see interior pics. I would definitely like to visit Dubai sometime, perhaps when I win the lottery.

Have to say, I love how the Burj looks. Everything about it is staggering.

I think I might have to save up and go back to Dubai again next year...

I won't be surprised if religious fanatics will compare it to Babel.. I will be surprised if it hasn't been done yet, though.

believe one thing when i tell you that Dubai is completely over rated!
I've been living there the past 6 years and its so boring and i was just wanna get out of there, but my dads enterprise is set there so what can we do.

Of course you see your Lambo's F430 (most common super car) and R8 and so on, but the the real sports car of the UAE are Toyota Landcruiser's with at least 2 Turbochargers and Nissan Patrols Vtec with at least 2 Turbo's
(at least 20PSI :D)

@HOMEFORSUMMER, next time you wanna visit Dubai, or anyone else who wants to visit, gimme a shout and we'll hook up and i'll show you through Dubai!

They so should put the final top floors up for private sale. Imagine the half-kilometre top floor as a penthouse, waking-up literally above the clouds. The sight from such a height is simply surreal:
