Buy American?

Give me a break. My sister was looking at a very nice '97 Acura Legend. The miles were a little high but it was from a close relative who needed a van. He was going to let her have it for $8000.00. The thing drove like it had 10k on it.

But her doofis husband would not allow her to buy anything but an "American" car. So she got a Camaro.

Her husband is a guy who says he wants a "dualie" (is that how you spell that? those trucks with dual rear wheels?). When asked why he says: "Cuz it's big."

Is it just me or does whether or not a car is American matter in the slightest? I don't want to sound judgemental but when I hear people say stuff like that I think:

YES! You know him?

He has one of those tool boxes, which is great if you actually need it, but he's just got a couple bungee cords in there. Right now he just has a lowly Chevy standard pickup.

Poor Bubba... :P

Erm Acura is American :) Well, in name anyhoo.

Her husband is pretty dumb it sounds like.

i know that you clown. i was going to add it into the post but i thought id wait for a dildo like you to post the obvious

I'm going to say yes American cars have more appeal to me now. I really like them a lot more then Japanese cars. Ever since I bought the Stang its been that way. Hmm..how peoples minds change.

First, let's make sure we're talking about the same cars: "American" as in Ford, GM, and Chrysler. American cars haven't been the same since the mid-1970's. Ralph Nader will take your thanks for that at nogoodnik@votenader.com. Now there are a few uses for modern American cars, but mostly for construction, transporting goods ("haulin' "), and buying something cheap until you can afford something better.

Don't bother with arguments about post-1990's reliability (Ford couldn't get their assembly line straight to save a hangnail on one of their underpaid Mexican employees), handling (Z06 aside), good design (designed by a blind, schizoid, epileptic, if you ask me), or anything else. They pale in comparison to the blandest of the bland, Honda.

But I love old American cars: '63 (or '57) Corvette...'66-'69 Mustang...'68 Charger...'71 Barracuda...'55 Thunderbird...'49 Buick...'60 Impala...Packards...Studebakers...Shelby.... That's just great ****. Period. So I can understand why some people over the age of 40 still bang the drum of "Buy American". The rest of you have either been brainwashed by your parents or are too stuck in your ways to move on with the rest of the world.

And that's my rather strong opinion on that.

The only American car I like is Sleen S7 because it look sexy!! but they sux in racing! Covette owned them big time!..
The car was designed by some Europian mofo I don't know if you can call it All American car....... :D

It is the luxury division of Honda in America. Kinda Like Infinity to Mazda and Lexus to Toyota and all. I think.

I thought Infinity was the luxury division of Nissan. Not Mazda. :odd: I'm probably wrong though.

My first truck is going to be all American! :D

No, you're right. Infinity is Nissan.

I'm still astonished by the amount of people who mis-spell 'Infiniti,' after it's been a fixture in the market for 13 years. Even, believe it or not, the GTP smiley tag for 'Infiniti' is mis-spelled.

Milefile: Nah - Acura was sold in exactly one country, and that was the United States. Not to say that Acura was built in one country, though...

Hooligan: A strong opinion from Hooligan? Never...

OK.

I think in coloquial terms most people are refering to the big three when they say "American." Whether this is right or not is another issue.

I had an Integra a while back and I loved it. I traded it for a VW convertible. Big mistake. I'd probably still have the integra.

Always. The problem is that nowadays the line is getting more and more blurred between what's American and what's an import, with so many Japanese and several European companies making cars in the United States, and also with more and more American cars trying to pack more quality into their cars yet trying to keep prices steady by producing them in Mexico.

Mazda has no one. They almost started "Amati" back in what was that, '93? They were gonna make V12 tanker cars, Ford kinda ended that. Ohh well...

.

Exactly... that's why my brother in law is such a dumbass. He merely deprived my sister of a great car.

My poor sister :(
