My car: 1989 Oldmsobile Delta 88

Cons:
  • 161,000 Miles
  • Currently lacking a rearview mirror
  • Currently lacking a full set of 4 hubcaps. Current hubcaps were bought for 75 cents at a garage sale
  • Broken right grille
  • "Leaf pattern" paint job
  • Paint is peeling
  • 0-60 in 10+ seconds, still untested, will test soon.
  • Ceiling upholstrey held up by thumbtacks
  • Broken tape deck
  • Power-less power windows (literally takes 30 seconds for passenger window to go up from half-way.)
  • Rear driver's side door doesn't lock with "power" locks
  • Passenger side mirror is hanging on by a wire, or something
Pros
  • Starts up everyday
  • 3.6L V6, but unfortunately my wall clock produces more tourque than it.
  • Comfy seats

Pics: I'll get some when I'm not so lazy.

Sure me and my rubberband powered '88 Toyota Corolla SR5 (a.k.a. wannabe 86) will!
I'll be happy to review your entry. Just post up the pros and cons of your can and I will decide if you can be in this club or not.

pros...

hmm... does the fact that it's a wedge count? "natural downforce"... damn it can't go fast enough for that.

Ok seriously...

1. 25 - 28 mpg
2. Stick, not enough power and FWD so it's "fun" and I can't kill myself

cons... (no order)

1. Bumper and roof paint faded
2. Scratches from bike rack on trunk
3. 160,000 miles on it
4. Black paint hot in the summer (this is bad in summer for a/c and the fact that all plastic parts and stuff inside the car melts)
5. Front and back right corner fender damn and rust
6. Tint on driver side wavey/pealing
7. Ex-ricer winshield sticker pealing/cracking/fading
8. cigarette lighter busted
9. Aftermarket rims scratched/dented
10. Worthless alarm and fog lights dead weight now (neither work)
11. Has something like 87hp... (10 MORE THAN MY FIRST CAR! YEAH BABY!)
12. Don't ask don't know what 0-60 is.
13. Exhaust pipe broken off but fixed with a sheet of metal and pipe ties (YEAH baby ricer exhaust for 10 bones! Eat ur heart out ricers!)
14. leaks in roof and in tail lights (not as bad as before)
15. dent in hood from my dad backing into my car with his tire on the back of his Rav4.

Wow, this is depressing me I'm stopping now... beat that people

You have been put into the awasinting confirmation category. I will ask MrktMkr1986 about what he thinks, but you are basically in. Congrats, er... sucktobeyou....

Got any pics? Pics will speed up the confirmation process, since we can judge quicker.

1987 Ford Laser

Pros:
Boot did fit two 12" subs that went hard before I sold them and went back to a single 12"
350-400km's on a full tank of gas
If floor the gas and back off theres a faint suggestion of backfire through the exhaust, not matter what rpm, good for a laugh I guess.

Cons:
Ticking over 169,000 kms soon
1.3L straight 4 - came from the factory with 49kw at the engine in '87 it has a hell tappet noise too
Automatic transmission with not 1, not 2 but 3 gears!
Paint is fading from Baby Blue to white
Plastic panels on the door have fallen off and not matter what we do they never stay on.
0-100km/h in wait for it ... 21 seconds. 18 seconds if I change through the gears manually.

Whoo... Hoo... ! uh... don't got any pics now but I do of it's "early" years when it was nice.

I forgot some crutial cons...

1. It smoke when I start it up for the first time in the mornings
2. aftermarket CD player broken (only radio now)
3. Sub and amp no more (stolen twice in my drive way while I slept)

pro...

I love my car even though it's falling apart... so unique :(👍

Hmmm... this is a tough one. The thing is, your car seems to be running just as it was expected to run. It doesn't have many major problems, just the fact that it has a crappy engine. It's a bad car, I'll give you that, but it's not really crap or for lack of an un-utterable word at GTP, fiekel matter. plus, you got that sub. That makes it not bad at all. Bring it up a notch. Show me otherwise (pics) and I'll reconsider.

I'll join, but my car is less crappy and more "not breath taking". It's a 97 saturn wagon, I believe an ls1 or something (I don't think saturn had any other models that year. I don't car enough about the car to figure out what it really is, so when people ask me what I drive I just tell them saturn wagon and the message is pretty well sent.) It's not a bad car per-say just kind of wierd.

Pros
For now it works and it does it's job sufficiently.
Good gas mileage.
Space for hauling stuff.
The radio reception is pretty exceptional. I can get radio stations from across lake ontario (one of the great lakes, that I happen to live next to) on it.
Decent for doing hand brake turns in snowy parking lots (I have to stop going to wal mart) and 100mph certified (By me. On that note I don't condone terrible driving, I speed way too much))
It's red, that makes it faster right?

Cons
IT freaks out whenever it rains and gives me the check engine light, nothing is wrong though.
A bit scratched up (as are all cars that spend any amount of time in a high school parking lot)
Wierd: The console show the headlights on when they are off and also the opposite. The rear hatch light won't turn on when you open the hatch but will turn on when you do it manually. It has some options I would never want and lacks some I need. No cassette player. It has an auto which I dislike. It has ac, which I never use.
Though there is plenty of cargo area, the drivers and passenger area are very cramped (I won't even get into the backseat), even for a ~5'11"-6' me.
The auto sucks, it's like having a terribly laggy turbo. I really wish I could have saved a little money and found an manual. Passing is terrible, usually I end up selecting a gear on my own rather than allowing the auto take a few moments to figure out I want to downshift.
5 GRAND!!!!!!! The car was owned by my aunt and uncle before I got it. My parents would not allow me to search for a car, it was set that I was getting that car. I know I could have found something a bit more agreeable for alot less. Yeah I might end up having problems with a different car but then I would have something to do on the weekends other than drinking. I always think of one of my neighbors who bought an old gti for $300, beat up on it for a year, lost the hood, sold it for $500, bought an old audi.
The car can be a little scary at times, it wanders like crazy on highway runs, but it is better than when I first got it, it would wander all across the road a 25mph. I was worried that cops would think I was drunk.
It is made of plastic, so a repairing it after a crash wouldn't break the bank, but come on, PLASTIC. (loud sigh)
The interior is crap.
Its a gm economy car so I worry about its quality. My sister had a lot of trouble with a cavalier for a while.

For the average driver, this car would be acceptable, but for a nitpicking car lover it is horrible. I'm sure I could have found a decent 240sx for the same price, or maybe an old subie. Either of which would have made me a bit happier. Let me know If I am accepted in the club.

Edit: Oh and I forgot to mention that the car feels dead in any state, even sliding sideways it seems cold. No inspiration, nothing telling you to slow down or urging you to keep pushing. It's just a dull lifeless car. The interior has no personality. I would rather have an older car with some rattles than this.

Hey! An automotive club I can actually join! I like it!

1992 Ford Tempo GL 4-door sedan

2.3L 4-cyl, with a whopping 98hp 0-60 in.. well, by the time it hit sixty, all the observers had fallen asleep from sheer boredom. Ditto for top speed.

Pros:

Fairly comfortable
Moderately smooth ride (i.e. not bumpy.. fair amount of bounce in the suspension)
Can fit 4+1 (the "+1" being a small person who sits in the middle)

Cons:

Total lack of power (the car's not that heavy, but c'mon.. 98 horsepower.. probably less now that the car's 12 years old.. probably a lot less)
A/C fan is broken (not even sure if the A/C itself even works, since the fan don't blow)
Only the driver's door can be opened from the outside. Front passenger door must be opened from the inside (key will no longer open it). Power lock affects only the driver's door, all other doors must be locked by hand.
Rear doors cannot be opened at all (locks will not disengage via power locks, are "stuck" down, and there's no key on the rear doors, and child safety locks are active, preventing me from opening them from the inside).
Trunk "springs" no longer function. Trunk is now held open by a portion of broomstick.
Car has requested me to "Service Engine Soon" since I bought it.
Engine has the World's Most Annoying Rattle at idle. Every mechanic who has looked at it has been unable to determine it's source. Therefore, they can't fix it.
Technically, the top speed is still undermined, however, I generally don't like taking it over 55 or so. The World's Most Annoying Rattle returns in force when you approach sixty, and I'm confident that if I maintain that speed for long, the whole engine will simply fly apart.

And to top it all off, it looks like I paid too much for it. I bought it for $1500, about a year or so ago. From what I was just reading up, it's current value in "average" condition is no more than $1100.

This is a car that was quite literally forced on me... I didn't choose it, per se. I was out of work at the time, had virtually no money, and had no car. In order to even consider looking for work, I needed a car to get me there. There was an old man two blocks over selling an old Tempo. Best car within walking distance, so I bought it.

To be honest, I haven't had the best of luck with cars in my time. My first car was a 1989 Buick Skylark. That didn't run. Well, it ran for about five miles. Left for dead on side of road, never saw it again. Didn't care. Next car was a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais, bought off girlfriend. After ten years of New York winters and salted roads, the bottom of the car was... well, gone. But, it got me where I was going long enough to buy... 1989 Toyota Camry LE. I seem to like '89's for some reason. But this Camry was nice. The LE had a lovely little V6 engine in it, and that thing could haul. Unfortunately, the '89 Camry is the most stolen vehicle in America, as I found out the day it was stolen right out of my driveway and subsequently wrapped around a telephone pole a few miles away (don't let the reports fool you.. when they talk about the Camry being the most stolen car, it's not the new ones they're talking about.. it's the ones from the '88-90 era or thereabouts). Totalled. This was during my previously-mentioned "out of work" phase, so I was screwed. Then the Tempo.

Save up more money, and I'm buying something better, dammit. Either a new, zippy little car like a Golf GTI (with the big engine.. 200hp and a 6-speed manual)... or if I buy used, it'll be a ****ing Porsche or something.

EDITED to add pic. Here it is:

Jedi: You're in, no questions asked. That is one POS. I cracked up about the part with the doors not opening!

xcsti: Your car is in kinda the same boat as Taurine. I did crack up, however, at the part with the car being made of plastic!👍 I will think about it.

I'm thinking about splitting the club into 2 categories: True P.O.S.'s (like Jedi's) and Cars That Can Barely be Called Cars but Still Are (like Taurine's and Xcsti's).

No questions asked, huh? Oh, that makes me feel so much better.. lol.

It was funny.. while I was typing all that up, I was thinking to myself... "Holy crap, my car's in worse shape than I thought it was...."

Well, this isn't my daily driver, but I drive this car (my dad's) on a very regular basis. It isn't anywhere near as crappy as some of the other crapboxes on here, but I think it deserves a mention, at the very least.

'93 Ford Explorer

Cons
- Poor fuel mileage
- Permanent exterior damage to the rear end (Taillight has a hole, and there is a huge dent just under the hatch's glass from a collision with a halfway down garage door)
- Rust beginning to form in numerous places
- Interior is in poor condition (driver's seat has turned from grey to black in some areas from years of dirt and a lack of cleanings, cracks in the dash, heating vents are broken)
- A bowlful of jello would make a better suspension that this car currently has
- Broken A/C
- 4 speed automatic transmission
- All season tires (not good in Canadian winters)
- Car occasionally stalls when stopped in reverse gear (Despite having an automatic)

Pros
- Very reliable (aside from occasional stall, it's had near perfect reliability over nearly 12 years)
- Flooring the accelerator from a standstill does produce wheelspin
- Engine has good torque
- Rear wheel drive and optional 4WD (4WD is available at the push of a button)

1985 Plymouth Caravelle

Pros:
-Starts good
-Runs decent
-seats 6
-only $350
-cheap insurance
-very few others have one

Cons:
-Smells like oil even though it doesnt leak
-3 speed automatic no overdrive
-FWD
-2.2 liter 4-cyl, 93 hp
-the underbody is so rusty that when i had to get a new exhaust and there was no good metal to attach it to and also ive been told my engine could literally fall through onto the ground
-3 out of four hubcaps are missing the chrysler symbol
-bald back tires and they are covered in ice so the back end likes to swing out
-doesnt like to go above 60mph without making noise and shaking
-2 windows dont work
-you have to turn on the cruise control 10mph over what you want it to stay at
-the idiot lights dont work right or at all, my washer fluid light comes on when it overheats

It has problems but i wouldnt give it up for nothing :sly:

Damn it.. forgot one other thing. If I get up to about 90mph (85mph actual because of non- stock wheels) the car will start to vibrate and that's pretty much the signal that it's the top speed because either my rubberband will break under stress or the car will rattle apart. Even right after I've had the car aligned and the wheels balanced it has still vibrated if you guys are wondering. :D:tup:

Mine's not too bad, but I complain incessantly about it, so I might as well join…

1994 Ford Ranger (Xtracab, 2x4)

Pros:
  • Still runs
  • Decent snort
  • I can let it get dirty
  • Flap on sun visor mirror hasn't fallen off (unlike the Subaru's)
  • Has side-mounted jump seats, which are infinitely better than those forward-facing jump seats on the newer Rangers

Cons:
  • No airbags
  • Clutch has been replaced 2 times, entire transmission once
  • Every pedal is loose
  • Numb steering (the wheel can be turned 10 degrees off-center and the truck won't change directions at all)
  • A/C permanently dead (huge, huge problem here, since it stays over 100° F in the summer… driving during the summer in this thing is absolutely unbearable)
  • Paint bubbling and chipping
  • Klunkiest shifter ever
  • Pivot point on sun visor is loose, making it useless
  • Radio buttons falling off
  • Has trouble starting below 60° F
  • The trim near the lower vents has come off
  • Manual everything, no amenities to speak of
  • Had a gas leak, just resolved a couple weeks ago (literally, the interior reeked of gasoline)

Sage
Cons:
  • Manual everything, no amenities to speak of
  • Had a gas leak, just resolved a couple weeks ago (literally, the interior reeked of gasoline)
You know not the meaning of this statement--no amenities? My car has no radio (well, it did until I installed one), no A/C, no power steering, no ABS, no airbags, vinyl seats, no tach (and it's a stick!), and only a 4spd tranny.

Oh yes, and at least your fuel leak was not in the engine compartment. Carburetted cars can be dangerous. :nervous:

Sage: You are on the awaiting confirmation list. I'll have my associate look over your car and we will get back to you with our desicion.

tabelin: You are in. That truley is a pice of crap. I especially like these parts:
tabenlins
-the idiot lights dont work right or at all, my washer fluid light comes on when it overheats
and
tabelins
-the underbody is so rusty that when i had to get a new exhaust and there was no good metal to attach it to and also ive been told my engine could literally fall through onto the ground
I was kind in the same boat as you. My gas tank was all rusty and had rusty bolts and frame. When my dad took it off, it cracked the frame. He had to get it re-welded.

my car is a 1977 porsche 924. it is also known as VWs bastard child. porsche inherited the 924 after not even VW wanted it. my car has caught fire and burned up too many wires to count and left its signature of a big brown spot on my hood. the spark plug wires are also the orignal ones that "survived the fire" which are not falling to pieces and have electrical tape all over them. the windshield washer does not work but it makes the noise like it is, i have checked to make sure it has fluid and luckily it is full <8- P. wipers cause the electrical system to fail meaning i have to take off the ground and positive cables off the batery for some reason and put them back on. the first shifter i had snapped while trying to put it into 3rd at a stop while feeling the throws. the seats are ripped plaid and vinyl. the front valance (kind of like ground effects) is bent. the car does not start thanks to the missing fuel pump relay. the glovebox is sort of ripped out of its place. it has rear drum brakes which are known the be awful. oh and it does not run anymore. the radio does not work either. it has 4 gears and only has 95bhp. i hold the rear hatch open with a stick, oh yeah and for some reason a lot of lights are missing the female ends.

pros. it has nothing to catch your attention in the interior except for odd switches the last owner had installed. it has no power steering, no A.B.S., no power windows, the wheels are in good condition, and it does not smell too funny.

I could also outline all the problems with our Subaru BRAT, but, um, it doesn't even start anymore, so… :D

Nice cars in here.

Pictures, anyone?

I would definately have fitted here about 4 years ago when I had a -76 Malibu as a daily driver for about a year. It was in horrible condition and averaged about 12mpg with its choked 350 at around 150 hp.

Nowadays I rely on public transportations since I study and moved away from the countryside. :)

I own a SEAT Ibiza.
The pro's I'm no longer spending any money on it.
The con's, it's currently broken down somewhere in Spain, probably been scrapped by now.

I know this is looking bad... the co-founder of new club coming in so late... :ill:

Here, though, is an example of a daily driver that is total crap:

Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe (1988)

Pros:

*It has a turbocharger! 👍
*It has an aftermarket boost controller w/ ~205 horsepower!
*It has automatic ride control
*It is fun to drive (when it works, of course... :sly: )
*It has a huge 22.1 (US gal.) gallon fuel tank
*It has power everything
*It has a premium/regular fuel switch with adjusts timing/boost to allow for either type of fuel
*Thunderbird Turbo Coupes are rare (mostly because they end up in junkyards)

Cons:

*The driver's side door window fell off its track -- due to the cold weather I had to force it back up manually into the door (no easy task)
*The passenger side door has a noticeable dent in the side of it where some 🤬 ran into me at a local Barnes & Noble
*The transmission line fittings leak whenever the car is in boost (inevitable in a hilly town like Yonkers, or on my way to school)
*There is rust around the wheelwells and on the bottom of the passenger side door
*The aforementioned driver side power window does not work
*The power side mirrors no longer function (the only way to move them is to get out of the car and manually push the mirrors)
*The interior headliner is ripped
*The transmission (due to the line fittings) will not shift out of first gear when it is hilly (so you are either doing 20 mph and causing traffic or 35 mph and 4,000rpms on long hills)
*The aftermarket high pressure fuel pump (which is suppose to give more hp) guzzles so much fuel that even with a quarter tank of fuel the car loses fuel pressure on tight turns. Then again... that could also be due to a bad fuel filter or a faulty fuel pressure regulator.
*The factory boost gauge could not handle the boost from the aftermarket boost controller -- as a result, I popped a vacuum line to the original factory boost gauge. No big deal -- but when you are not in boost (i.e. vacuum) the car always makes a hissing noise.
*The factory equalizer doesn't work so if you turn it on it makes a high-pitched squealing noise that gets louder (or higher in pitch) with increasing rpms
*The front speakers were not installed properly so whenever you drive one speaker will suddenly stop working and the other speaker will turn on. Or, in rare cases both will not work...
*The rear speakers are removed (actually they are sitting my '94 Mustang GT that is "retired")
*The right front tire's sidewall is cracked (albeit slightly) and is constantly losing air pressure (so every 2-3 weeks I have to stop to put air in the tire). Strangely enough, all four tires V-rated all-season high performance tires still have a few thousand miles left on them.
*The transmission slips (rarely happens though) if the engine is not properly warmed up (due in part again to the line fittings). Though that just started in this weather. So it's most likely just a winter time thing.
*It has a turbocharger! And turbo lag...
*The aftermarket high performance fuel pump stole 10-15% of my fuel economy.
*The fuel tank is a [new] replacement (and because the car does not recognize it), the fuel gauge will SOMETIMES give a false reading...

EDIT: The transmission no longer slips. It just needed some fluid. :grumpy:
It still downshifts too early on long hills though.

Apart from that, it starts everyday and gets me from Point A to Point B -- rather quickly... :sly:

pros. it has nothing to catch your attention in the interior except for odd switches the last owner had installed. it has no power steering, no A.B.S., no power windows, the wheels are in good condition, and it does not smell too funny.
Wow, I said no Porsches! The real question is: Does it run? It has to run to qualify as a daily driver. Othewise, I don't see a problem in letting you in.

EDIT: Looks like I just needed to read your post. Sorry, you're not in. Your car needs to still run to be in.

You know, there used to be a trim level of the GMC Sierra known as the C3? They only made it for one year - 2001 - and it was basically everything the GMC Sierra Denali is now except without the kickass four-wheel steering. So it was kind of a waste. They didn't meet sales goals until four-wheel steering showed up the following year (which coincided with the renaming of the truck as the GMC Sierra Denali).

Edited my first post to add a pic of my car. It might look nice and normal on the outside, but don't let it fool you... everything in my initial post is the truth. :)

And I forgot to add that the power windows on the rear doors don't work, the passenger side seatbelt gear-thing doesn't work (so when you open the door, the seatbelt just stays where it is rather than retracting forward like it's supposed to). And the screws holding the rear license plate in place aren't actually screwed into anything except the rear body panel. Which is plastic. A strong wind will tear it right off.
