I've got a word that doesn't need and in-depth description, and describes this thread and everyone remotely related to it.

Enough.
Fixed.

Anyone care to play verbal piñata with the AUP anymore tonight or are we done now?

Woah! How'd you get the squiggly N?

Really? There are keyboard combinations to get letters like that. Either that, or he's on the iPhone app and is just holding the n "key" down to get the secondary options to show up. My bet is on keyboard shortcuts, or googling "pinata"

Right guys. I know this thread's a bit out-dated, but the motherboard and RAM are on it's way, and I'll be ordering the Video card and Power supply next week. However, I've stumbled across this: http://www.mwave.com.au/sku-4205073...68MB_192_bit_GDDR5_RAM_675_3600MHz_Clocks_PCI

Linds was wondering if he would get more out of this card. It features PhysX, it seems to weild better results on paper, as well as videos that I've seen, and Linds is a bit of an nVidea fanboy (so he's happy to pay the extra $20). Should we go with the 460, or stick with the 6770? Cheers.

^^ Exactly. That's what I was saying. On paper and in the videos I've seen, it looks better overall, but I was wondering if someone had reason to say to stick with the 6770 (the 460 is almost two generations behind). :)

Well, they have a little logo thing, and the box looks cool...:dopey:

EDIT: On a more serious note, they do seem to have a relatively devolved website and company: http://www.inno3d.com/

...then again they could have just employed some very smart 12 year olds to code the website...

So new problem arising.

Linds is coming over today to do the upgrade, we've got the new motherboard and RAM in. What's happened is that his DIMM slots have all died, therefor he cannot boot the computer to save all his files. What we want to do is upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit when we swap the motherboard. I'm not really sure what order I should do things in, and if we upgrade, will it save all current files?

Connect his drive up to one of your computers and back everything he has up to an external drive. When you upgrade from a 32bit OS to a 64bit, it'll wipe the drive. Even if you were going from a 32bit to a 32 bit you should back everything up and do a clean install.

^^ If I connect the drive, won't Windows do that thing where you have to re-activate before you can access the full OS?...

EDIT: Oh wait *slaps own head* I can boot from the Enterprise PC's OS (since it's got Win 7 Enterprise on it) and just access Linds's drive as a raw drive, correct?

Could do the same with a live CD of Linux. When you get the new parts in, build it up, plug in the old drive, drop any variant of Linux into the CD tray, turn it on, mash the optional boot key, which'll likely be something like F10 or F12. Run the live variant of Linux, and navigate to the filesystem and pull the data off like that.

Correct.

Although for jobs like this I have one of these:

So we're installing the 64bit Win 7 as we speak, we just booted into 32-bit (didn't ask for a product key) and saved his data to a USB stick. However, it's been sitting on "Completing Installation" for about 20 mins... anyone know what we can do? The dots are still dotting, but the progress bar isn't moving :grumpy:...

EDIT: NEVERMIND! It's restarting. Like they say, patience is a virtue, seldom found in women!

I hate those. Had to use those at my last job. One was awful, and the other one was really small and awkward.

I got one and it works well. I have the Vantec NexStar. I always carry it with me since it's so useful. Though only one problem I had with it is getting a 2.5" PATA drive to connect correctly. To make it easy for me I also carry a longer SATA cable so I don't have to use that 6" long one. I've been able to save a lot of data with the device.

Well this has FINALLY been put together more. We've got the graphics card, and we went one better. Got a GTX560. Now before everyone yells "BOTTLENECK!", I've got his chip running stable at 2.85GHz on stock volts, and it looks like we've got some more breathing room until we go messing with voltages. Also, the card itself is underclocked to 700 and something MHz (like 720 or something), instead of the stock 810MHz. That will decrease performance, but in this situation increase performance, by avoiding the bottlenecks that may occur at full CPU/GPU load.

I chucked together an unboxing and put it on YouTube:

It's pretty retarded to be honest, but at least it's there. Thoughts anyone?

Oh, also, it's power supply shopping time. I've got $68.50c left on the Visa card, so that's the absolute max amount I can pay (including shipping). The card recommends 450W with at least 24A on the 12V rail, so yeah. I was thinking this: http://greenboxit.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=19767&products_id=18929

Even though it's 400W, it's still got the amperage on the rails to support it the system.

^ I do? Huh, I always thought I just had a scary face and bad accent :P Well that's another one for the list!

Well we're all finished! Lindsay got a free PSU off a friend that was 480W with 30A on the 12V rail, which is more than what the card requires for the entire system. The only bummer is that we had to use Dual molex to 6pin adapters (two adapters since the card requires two 6pins). He's maxed out BF3 on Ultra at 1024x768@60Hz and with 4x AA. Framerates never drop below 25 frames in the most intensive area (rain, explosions, dust etc) and max framerates hit around the 50 mark. Average is 37. We're both very happy chappies.

Also I've got his chip stable at 2.85GHz, gonna tinker a bit more this arvo and he's gonna run Prime when possible.
