There seems to be a trend in the current round of US sports cars:
Chrysler Crossfire
Pontiac Solstice
Dodge Razor
This long hood & rounded short-overhang rear, 2.4L I-4 (N/A base model, turbo or S/C for top spec), rear drive only.... I have long held the belief that the US or Europe would come up with something new, and Japan would make it better/more interesting/functional. This time it seems that the US waited for Japan to step first (Nissan 350Z, Mazda RX-8).
Whether the Amercan cars turn out well remains to be seen. The Japanese autos have turned out quite well, even if they cost more than the US competition is expected to be. IMO, GM & Dodge (and Ford) should stick to their muscle car roots. It's not a finesse thing; it's a brute force thing. Past attempts at sleek & nimble have been more like skitchy & clunky.
The muscle car character may not have been everyone's cup of tea, but it was a worthy character none-the-less. I eagerly await the new GTO (via Holden) and Marauder. The Solstice may look nice, but whether the US can carry it through is another task altogether.
