Here's a rap beat I did a few years ago, it's based on a broken online game and it was a gift for a friend who is a rapper :)

Bought myself Steven Wilson's EastWest Ghostwriter from my Birthday money and played around with it:

It's just a little demo of it, not a proper song, but I like the result.

Also a little funfact: The recent GTP article reminds me that my dad's last album was mixed in the studio, which made the audio for one of the Gran Turismo promotional videos, featuring the 24h Nürburgring race.

Would have been good if I'd recorded this with the condenser mic, because it turned out well. But meh, camera mic will have to do. I tried re-recording with the condenser after, but as always with these things, it wasn't quite good enough. :P It's even worse when it's clearly set up there.

Here's a lesson in social media and impact... this is my most liked song on Soundcloud, and I posted it over 9 months ago. So far it has accumulated just over 1000 plays, which makes it one of my most played songs. On Tuesday, a small independent record label posted it on their account (with my permission!) as part of their 'Introduces' series, and it has already broken through 1000 plays in under 72 hours...

This track is kind of a by-product from my current album project. It doesn't really fit to the other songs, but I kinda like it enough to share it. Everything is programmed, including guitars and bass, so it doesn't sound as smooth as a proper recording. Still, I hope you enjoy it!

For the first time I'm actually uploading an entire original song. It's as complete as can be without me going and buying, learning, and recording an accordion. And considering it's only in the last section where it goes to 4/4, I decided maybe I'd go without. :P

At all those musicians here at GTP, has there ever been a musical project "wish" here at GTP to create something all together?

It's been tried once or twice, but they never eventuated to anything.

One from 2003. And one from 2014.

It would be nice to have a list of people who would be interested in such a thing, because it would make it easier to figure out how to set up a piece. I'm imagining something like Hear N' Aid (or Band Aid) where it's just a basic song where everyone has their little lead bit, I'd imagine it would be the most confused song ever when it comes to genre. If I was better at mixing, I'd try it myself, but I'm not very good. Though I'd be happy to sing in it, if the opportunity arises. It would also require a lot of quality control, which isn't nice from a human standpoint.

Fly me to the moon, Electric double bass, Gibby Les Paul, Some Toontrack drum software & a few bottles of The Famous Grouse. The last helped the most.

Henry Mancini classic. A Shot In The Dark.

Fender Tele, Epi SG, Gibby LP, Epi Thunderbird, Toontrack drums and another barrel load of cheap blended Whisky.

Sore Thumb. Descriptive song title as I panned in my thumping thumb on a new bass. Ouch.

EDIT: Hmmmm, that didn't work.

sore-thumb

Completed my classical piano cover of David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust :D

Sounds great! Although (and you'll have to pardon my Aspergers) that isn't a classical piano, it's a modern overstrung, quite likely an upright ;)

Around the 0:52 mark think about the thickness of the lower chords and whether you might like to play an octave there and stick some middle-range chords in with a madly flying right hand :D

Still a really nice arrangement though!

It is an upright :P It's the closest sound my laptop could produce!

Madly flying hands sounds like an interesting idea. I'll think about it!

Turns out The Kids Aren't Alright by The Offspring works decently as an acoustic song. Guess that's not surprising as it's very simple, it's the same four chords the whole way through. I really think that bringing the vocal down an octave brings the effect of the lyrics out.

Yeah, I really don't know what to do with the song images, this song is lyrically quite depressing, so I guess Bill Dauterive is relevant.

Over the long weekend I also recorded a few demos to my original songs to give to my brother, hopefully we can finally getting around to recording something together. We've tried before, but the trouble is that we're both sort of lazy.

any musicians here use Midi controllers for their DAWs? If so what and any advice, tips or recommendations on software to help using one.

I’m using Logic Pro X, Reason 10 and a Akai MPK Mini II.

Had permission from Touring Mars (moderator) to post this here. Herewith DK Rap cover by thadudette to celebrate 20 years of Donkey Kong 64.

Originally released in 1999, this was one of Rareware's best games on the Nintendo 64. Composed by Grant Kirkhope this was a source of a parody especially with memes.

You can check it out here -

Comments and feedback are welcome. Feel free to leave a comment and like via the video itself.

A new song I recorded this evening - it's a song about recognizing the need to limit one's drinking, which, appropriately enough, is also one of the first songs I've recorded completely sober after 5 days of not drinking...

It has been quite a minute since I posted in this thread (or anywhere in GTPlanet really). I released a solo album about a week ago, done entirely in the month of November for National Solo Album Month. I'm pretty happy with it, especially considering the time constraint (and that I'd never done a lot of the things I did in it before). It's 41:30 of jazz fusion/city pop.

You're amazing, man! The vocals are a bit unrefined, but I forgive that because you're doing it all yourself. The music reminds me of T-Square, which is awesome! And everything else is amazing, I've been trying to get my head around making some fusion jazz stuff recently (to not much avail).

But anyway, this is the first song I've recorded with an electric guitar and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. It's a very simple song, and the lyrics (especially the first verse) are subpar. But the vocals in the chorus/middle section were so satisfying to finally hear in full form, and I'm even quite happy about how the solo turned out.

Edit: And another one, incase anyone drops by this thread.

This song is about my struggles in saying no, and it causing me to make dedications for other people I can't hold up to. And the resulting inevitability in it going too far and becoming a big emotional strain. I'm quite happy with the vocals in the final chorus, even though it's probably too much considering the music behind it is still the same.

Thanks so much! I definitely agree about the vocals, but considering I'm very far from a vocalist and even farther from someone who knows how to mix and EQ vocals (this album was the first time I've ever sang lead vocals or written lyrics), I can't complain with what I did.

T-Square and Casiopea are some of my biggest influences, so that's great to hear. I was definitely going for that late-'70s/early-'80s Japanese vibe.
