My apologies if there is a thread for this the search function on the mobile app is bad.

I was chatting with my brother and he says that front wheel drive.cars cant drift is that true?

There was one around here recently. I'll save you the trouble and give you a simple answer.

Yes, FWD cars are capable of drifting. They can use the e brake to break grip on the rear tires while using the power in the front to pull the car along. It's often called ass dragging. It isn't "proper" drifting by most standards.

No, they can not drift.
They ass drag.
There is no power to the real wheels, so you cant hold a proper drift, in fact you cant even touch the gas, or you'll straighten out.

BUT, if you throw it into reverse and then try to 180 it back around to your intended travel direction, you'd have the drive wheels behind you for a drift of sorts! Maybe with a little practice?

Just make sure you're not near anything...

Now imagine doing that in a Robin Reliant.

I remember that Top Gear and that Block called someone a puss.

You guys think if we contacted Tsuchiya, arranged a Robin Reliant be sent to him, and have him drift it? I'd pay for that.

That would definitely be amusing - I could see drifting three-wheelers becoming some sort of entertainment - like Monster trucks in a stadium, except more awesome. We'd start a field of 50 cars on a short, dirt-type track, and the last car that doesn't flip wins! I bet you could sell tickets for that...

Yes technically FWD can drift, it can be done by weight shifting, lift off over steer, handbrake and also pressing the throttle, there's no need for the hand brake either on some corners. FWD drifting isn't always ass dragging. You won't see many professional FWD drift cars in competition though.
