can an AE86 SS version handle like Amuse S200 R1

i know the question looks ridiculuous but i just wanna know if anyone can tune the SS version 86 to handle like the Amuse R1..

im just new to GT and i liked the driving the 86 since i am a big fan of initial d but ever since my cousin told me to use the Amuse R1 i've been confused.. i know the differences are too big, not power-wise but handling wise and i am in a fix right now, the Amuse R1 handles like a dream with everything stock while the 86 is somewhat semi hard to drive.. im still new to tuning in GT4 (still exploring and experimenting).. i know that there are certain differences in both cars that cant be changed like the weght and size of the cars but still i haven't gotten it right.. also i am not looking to drift with this car but race with it, so N/A or turbo dont matter to me..

hope someone out there can help me..

also new to the boards.. this is a great place.. drive on! 👍

Visit my site at www.kotikone.fi/spitfire/gt4 and take a look at the settings of both the SS and the original Corolla. The SS is set to be more of a drift machine (a friend asked me to), but since the cars are quite similar the settings might be interchangeable. Works well enough for me.

well it does work well however im not in favor of using driving aids since i want to be able to do 2 player battle with the car.. and in 2 player battle there are no driving aids.. could u come up with different settings with same handling properties? that would be sweet.. :)

Try decreasing the front spring rate to 10.0 or even 9.0 and set the front toe to +2.0, these might help.

OK, you need to first realise that you're comparing apples with oranges here...

There's 20 years between the 2 cars, technology has changed immensly... And the S2000 R1 is a tuner car with all the nice bits and pieces fitted by Amuse...

You'll need some heavy heavy tuning to get the AE86 to handle like the R1...

Good luck, let us know your progress and post you're settings when you perfect them...

thanks for the suggestions.. also will try to post my progress here since i would like for ppl to share they're settings to know which works and don't

btw the reason why i want the AE86 to handle like that is because my cousin challenged me to a battle this weekend with my 86, coz i beat up his stock powered impreza pretty bad and this time he'll be using his 400 hp R34.. and the only way i can think of beating it is if i can corner as hell like the S2000 R1

gonna try your suggestions as i get home.. drive on!! 👍

Cool cool...

Personally, I hate the AE86 in the game, they did a bad number on it... much better car IRL, just not in game

Sorry, I forgot to mention in my posts that the site is in Finnish, hope you found what you were looking for :)

That's quite natural, Finnish is considered to be one of the most difficult languages in the world ;)

these suggestions didn't work for me.. the only adjustment that i found that worked is increasing the camber angle in the rear to ridiculous angles (7.5)..

also in order to corner the multiple esses in the beggining of trial mountain i constantly have to travel sideways mostly at straights, one good example is the short straight before the left uphill i have to travel that short straight in an angle like this.. | / |

i'll try to experiment some more.. this time i'll try to adjust the lsd to match the suspension..

tried both, they were excellent set ups for time trial but for a battle these wont cut it, i turned off the driving aids and the handling changes drastically, understeers badly in high speeds

I asked that as the SS was set up to be a drifter but the Corolla is in race settings. If the problem occurs in high speeds only decreasing rear downforce might help.

- EDIT - Just realized that the SS can't have a wing applied, sorry :(

I use the red and black trueno. ( like my real one :) )

My trueno is good for 1:17 with no spray and no driving aids at Deep Forest raceway and I've done a 59 using spray at Tsubaka (sp).

buy the best of everything at a tuner shop... wing and wheels too. dont forget the oil.

Now my settings:
racing exhuast
sports chip
stage 2 turbo ( the car has better manners with this )
Racing supersoft tires
susp:
springs: 9.6 / 10.8
height: 86 / 86
shocks: 7/8
camber: 2.1 / 1.8
toe: 0 / -1
sway 5 / 6

Trans:
2.675
1.869
1.395
1.089
.889
.760
final 4.643

brakes: 10/24
downforce: 30 / 30
2 way diff

Its set up pretty neutral like this. It's good for short to medium tracks. Dont over drive the corners and pay close attention to the lines. If you try to drift this setup, you'll be rewarded with snap oversteer.

Good luck.

(edit)
I just ran the ring at 7:56 with this set up on the second lap. 2 runoffs but not so bad I'd call it a dirty run as I didnt hit anything.

I like the non SS version because of the 6th gear and the addition of the wing. The extra gear and downforce make up for the HP loss.

Actually, in real-life, it would be possible. Low Weight will trump a stiff chassis once both are fully modified. What is really holding back the Corolla is tire sizes. Since GT won't let you put modern low-profile and wide tires on the Trueno.

(AFAIK, racing tires are 1" upsize, but it's probably cosmetic only, as the % change in grip is absolute and not variable based on contact patch).

What this means is, you still have the poor stock contact patch for the tires even when fully tuned. This won't let you extract any more grip after a certain point. I've hit this wall many times before on older cars in GT4.

In real life, given equal preparation, the S2000 is faster, way faster. From my own observations from years of autocrossing, the s2000 is many levels ahead of the corolla. In stock class it is no contest, the S2000 is classed with the EVO and STi and is easily faster. in mildly prepared classing where shocks, springs, tire sizes, and other off the shelf parts are allowed, the s2000 is classing with vipers, vettes, and elises where as the corolla is classed with the integra, the 330ci, and the is300.

The corolla GTS has a suspension that is not nearly as well designed as the s2000 - I'm not talking about spring rates and shock valving either. The suspension arms and the pickup points on the s2000 are much better placed - one would have to completely redesign the GTS's suspension from the ground up. Much of the S2000's weight comes from extra reinforcement to the chassis, it is much stiffer. Not to mention that the corolla has much much more unsprung weight due to the live axle design. Think live axle camaro vs independent rear suspension corvette (it is a very similar analogy).

If one were to stiffen the chassis alot, completely refabricate the suspension, breath lots of power into the engine, then maybe the corrolla can come close - but I'd still pick the s2000.

i know this might sound crazy to you guys but i have specialized in the tuning of the ss corolla and have made it handle like the amuse its cause i known alot about drift and gripping and the 86s capalbilities its possible but unfortunetly ive lost my drift settings where i killed the massive tire spin before it hits red line but im working on it as soon as i have them ill post them
