Can't go back to GT6 after playing AC

The learning curve is indeed a lot steeper with AC, but so is the satisfaction and immersion. When I first got the game I jumped straight in to the McLaren 12C GT3 and I was terrible, it didn't help that I didn't know any of the tracks - I never really got in to Silverstone in GT - so I was off the track all the time.

I decided I was going to learn Silverstone even if it was gonna kill me. So I jumped in the Lotus Evora GTC car which is quite forgiving and just ran lap after lap after lap. I absolutely love Silverstone now, and I can run lap times within 0.1 seconds of each other consistently.

Then I jumped back in the GT3, now that I knew braking points and how fast I could safely take in to a corner I started picking up the pace. I'm still not as consistent in the GT3 but with practice it can only get better.

Sims with steep learning curves are usually the best in business. I'm curious, how does the stock 12C compare to the one in Shift 2? Some of S2's cars sound good, not completely spot on, but close to the real thing IMO. Though I don't like how practically every stock car has a transmission whine and short gear ratios, rather than being based on their true stock gear ratios.

Annnyyyhooo....

I actually thought AC was really intuitive to play from the get-go. I jumped straight into a Z4 GT3, took it around the Nur and just nailed it immediately. The FFB and physics felt so natural and good with a T500 wheel.

Will be interesting to see what they have done with the T500 FFB in GT6 after the last update. I hear worrying things. Going to try it tomorrow.

Btw, the AC guys seem to be working hard to improve the game in all areas. Have a look at the dev blog. They are going to improve both sounds and graphics and apparently also have more licensing aces up their sleeves: http://www.assettocorsa.net/dev-blog-en/.

Of course, the sound improvement job should be fairly forgivable, since they for the moment only have about 35 cars to upgrade the sounds for.

As I know the dream pack with 10 cars and the Nordschleife will be released in September. And they said it will be released after the game has arrived v 1.0. So I guess it will be done before September :D

Well, now that I moved my computer over to my rig to play Euro Truck Simulator 2, I might consider getting this after the final release. If I haven't moved my computer back by then that is.

Agreed, same here with a G27 (and CSR Elite pedals). For me the learning curve was with switching to cockpit view (usually always used nose/hood view)... and half of that was merely in getting the onboard settings correct (if you have the wrong seat position or FOV or pitch it can make cockpit very difficult to drive, which isn't very realistic). Once you turn off the virtual driver's arms and steering wheel, and get the camera in the right spot, it becomes a very different experience. Put it this way, AC is the first sim that feels like my real life driving experiences in Formula 2000 cars. Takes a little getting used to but it is so rewarding.

And right now I'm playing with paddle shifters and auto-clutch, the rest of the driver aids are switched off. When I get a better rig I'll hook up the shifter and start clutching too, which will really make cars like the Ferrari 312 feel awesome :)

You can get it today on the steam sale with 50% of the price. Go and get it :)

I don't really want to get the unfinished version though. Steam will have another sale at some point. I have plenty of games to keep me occupied, so I'm in no hurry.

You can buy the game now and you'll receive the full version (V1.0) as well, that's the great thing about Steam's Early Access. Also, I don't think you'll ever find AC for a similar price anytime soon.
Apart from these two facts, if you ask me, the game is pretty great considering in which development stage it is in right now.

I'm actually seriously considering getting this now. The main thing I want to know is how the career mode is going to be. I will not be playing online, so the career and the AI is make or break for me. Can anybody tell me anything about that? Or do we not really know until the game comes out?

Also, if it's possibly coming out on PS4, I would hugely prefer it to be on PS4 and wait and pay more for it. So maybe the best option for me is really to just wait.

Its the mclaren GT3 that I have been trying to beat 2min 2 sec on the special event. I've gotten so close recently but I may give up because I'm starting to dislike the car. Edit: Got 2:01:679 using a setup from race department.

Funny thing, I was just thinking this after trying that 997 GT3 RSR Mod. Brings back days of GTR2 and GTR Evo with the Porsche mods. Since GT6 just has Ruf and I love the race cars...I'm almost done with GT6....but so many friends on PSN that I had good times racing with....those people need to get a PC and join me lol :(

Or ps4 and project cars :)

For people new to AC, it might be worth noting that it can be very handy to activate the dev apps. I found the adjustments to interior view incredibly valuable. Both immersion and intuitiveness were massively increased once I sorted my view out.

Didn't know where to post this, but just chose a thread that might have newbies in it. Maybe it could be worth starting a thread to have a more obvious pointer to the possibilities?

^Good to know, as a new player how are these kits accessed? Sorry for the ignorance also new to PC gaming.

Go into your Steam folder and follow: common-assettocorsa-system-cfg-assetto_corsa.ini.

Go to ENABLE_DEV_APPS=0 and change the 0 to a 1, then save. You will then have quite a few new options on the right hand side of the play screen.

Cool, thanks.

I love the game but i'm still going back to GT to get a good UI and easy & fast access to cars and tracks. I hope AC can improve the UI and also provide some means of switching cars and tracks similar to how GT can when online. I find that I can play until I'm worn out and tired with GT, but with AC I get fed up before I make it that far.

It's honestly the biggest thing keeping me from enjoying this game more, I just get fed up with having to back out to the main menu to switch cars or tracks and end up playing very short sessions. This is partly my fault for not having a good keyboard and mouse stand/holder.

Same here - I've just switched to having my rig do dual duty as my PC Race Sim station and my Mac personal computing station (I bought a Mac Mini and partitioned it so I can dual boot in OS X or Win 7). Don't have a keyboard/mouse attachment so I just use a short wood stool I got from Target, have one on each side of my rig (one is a "table" and one is now holding my keyboard and mouse). While I'm in AC I just use the mouse with my left hand, but when I'm using it as a Mac the keyboard sits in my lap and mouse on the right (on the "table"). Kinda makeshift but it works for now and I love having a "giant" 39" screen for surfing p... uh, I mean reading email ;)

Any hope for going back to GT6 was squashed once I got AC dialed in how I like (70% FOV, plus the seat and pitch adjustments), plus now there are frequent updates to Snoopy's Nordschleife, and the Corvette Daytona Prototype which is so awesome to drive and sounds great... and my "home" track has been released as a mod as well - Virginia International Raceway - had so much fun there last night.

I still pop GT in every now n then, but I never expect a decent racing experience. Even in league race, after playing games like Assetto and other sims, GT really has major competition these days. I had my first race on Assetto Corsa today, long story short I spun once, and was taken off 4 more times by other drivers spinning/rejoining, but I can't remember a race as satisfying in all my years playing GT.

I was pretty surprised to be 2nd fastest in the series of cars I was using after having only had the game for a few days, but I knew I hadn't a hope in coming first. Yet however just racing round the track, keeping my position for 20 so laps was so much fun. I'd honestly be bored out my head if this were Gran Turimso. I guess the feel of driving on a fairly good racing sim is much more rewarding at first. Not knocking Gran Turismo, but I'm really hoping they up their game for the next instalment.

^^ GT had somewhat serious competition the moment FM3 came out :), as it was already starting to make small leaps and innovations.

The racing is S2 and GA is far more exciting IMO, though the physics of the former are near-retarded!

I hope we get to see a console version of AC someday.

The braking sensation that AC delivers, I feel at the Thrustmaster wheel, even with ABS at 0, is the best immersion I have ever felt bar none , in a PC or Console Racing Simulator. The inclusion of the nordschleife in 1.0 will put GT6 to rest, that is, only until GT7 hopefully by the end of 2015, but highly doubting that timely release date by Sony.

Hi , my name is Robert, and I used to be a GT5/GT6 addict

Competition is good!

question for T500RS owners, do you use default settings, or tinker? I just extended mine to 1080, should I have left it at 900?

I leave my wheel at 900. I've changed the linearity on the brake though. Even with a couple of the bushings stiffening the brake, I still changed the setting so I have to apply more pressure before it really starts kicking in.

I have a Fanatec CSR. In general, I find myself using 720 on most of the race cars and 900 for street cars.

Bob, have you tried snoopys nordschliefe? IMO it is on par, if not better than GTs version.

It should be able to tide you over until the official version arrives:cheers:

For the moment AC is only good for running laps with some challenges or online racing, not to mention afew quality mod's from the community which is quickly becoming a library. If online racing isn't your thing then it's best to wait but I got to say you are missing out on alot of fun.

I was mostly a PC gamer. I had consoles too ps1 ps2 ps3 but eventualy I always sold them and stick to PC (to low exclusive games on colnsoles). I always missed Gran Turismo on PC or other game that can replace it. I had ps3 and I have played around 8 month in gt5 (i got platinium) and then I sold it.

Then gt6 come out and I was thinking to get another ps3 and took it used a month ago but I bought assetto corsa too... And I cant play GT6 as some of you... Its strange the game which I loved for so many years now is not in my intrest. Its the feeling of cars, GT6 has 1000+ cars but when you drive you dont feel diferences THAT much as in assetto corsa. In AC when u get used to a car and switch to another is almost like a new game. Also you feel very good the car/road in AC, in GT - all cars are quite similar to me.
Another thing what hit me was the diffuculty.. GT5 was a challenge at some licences/vettel chall. etc but GT6 was easy for me (im not any pro player). I started some licenses and golded A and B with just 2 repeats. And races were easy too I didnt even had to buy any car I won all for gold with those I had (later lancer as reward). Or maybe GT has come down or AC is too god or im too old ;) but it was strangly easy. I know that later it would be harder I have played only to around 16%.

But for now I dont enjoy driving in GT. I loved drive in AC at start, much better sound and that feeling of realism catch me:)

I wonder how GT7 will change will it be competivice to AC and other coming games what you think?

PS. I have to sell ps3 again ;)

GT uses a generic tire model and adjusts grip with a chassis grip modifier and as long as they do that, they'll likely never achieve the individual feel the various tire models in AC and other sims provide. The advantage of a game with a small car count is individuality, a unique feeling from car to car, the advantage of a game with a huge car count is a huge car count but far less individuality. It's more of a generic feeling that appeals to a more casual player and there's nothing wrong with that of course, it's a different experience for players with different needs, demands etc.

I hope more of us GT folks will support this type of small devs like Kunos to show PD and other big racing sim dev that quality is very important than quantity. I've been a fan of GT series for a long time (16 years), but I'm glad AC is now my main sim. And I share the same of what Luk said about GT.
