Car Behavior and Tire Temps after Patch 2.0PS4

good read: http://forum.projectcarsgame.com/sh...-amp-my-week-s-worth-of-research-on-the-cause (the whole thread including the Dev note towards the end about adjustments coming up in patch3)
Ughh... After nine pages you send me to another thread? Just kidding, thank you for the information! :sly:=👍

Just want to say thanks to all that chipped in here (and on the PCars 2 forum link). This certainly clears some things up for me. I've been struggling with tire temps and traction degradation, but not showing wear in the telemetry. I'm now certain I've been over-utilizing the soft compounds, even for short races (5-6 laps). I also wonder if the telemetry shows a different kind of wear, since I've finished longer races with only 10% wear, yes - 90% remaining - according to PCars dash and in game telemetry. But I had terrible handling tires for the last couple laps (30 - 45 minute races).

The wear in the HUD is for the thread. Not the full amount of rubber. OFC if you stop having thread you can still make it to the pits at there's still rubber on the tire. The car will barely have grip to go at speed around a corner though

Sorry to disagree, but they went back to how it originally was in pCARS1.... HUD shows FULL tire rubber (tread + carcass). I had to change the setting on my pCARS Dash (now RS Dash) to show only the tread (shwoed full tire by default).

Which is a strange decision. Why not just show tread wear, it’s not like driving on the carcass is useful.

Need to check that... Pretty sure it wasn't like that and I don't recall anything on release notes otherwise.
Actually there's a post on that in oficial forum on this but again, I can't recall if after latest patch or not.

Sorry, not sure if this has been mentioned previously, but is there a problem with the Formula C tyres? They lose temp real fast no matter what pressure or setup I use. I've tuned the car and it's really nice to drive (even dialled out most of the crazy lift-off oversteer) but the tyres all lose temp, no matter the track.

I believe that's a known issue.

It's been that way since release. I can run an hour on softs on GTE with accelerated wear and only see a small amount of wear on the HUD. That tells me it is showing full tread and carcass.

Also, when RS Dash is set for showing both tread and carcass, the HUD and RS Dash wear rates match up. When RS Dash is set to only show tread, the wear rate in RS Dash is twice as fast as on the HUD. Again, that confirms to me that the HUD shows both tread and carcass.

So where on the in-game indicator does the tread stop and the carcass begin would you say?

considering he did say rs dash wears twice as fast as the hud, i'm willing to bet if the tire on the hud gets to half, you're running on the canvas.

^ Yep. What he said..... ;)

Tread is 50% of what the HUD shows. You hit half gone, time to get tires for sure. You'll feel them go off MUCH sooner than that though ;)

Yes, soft tires at night I couldn' get them to stay in the optimal temp window... could get just below it but no matter what pressure they would not get hot enough...
When they are cold do you feel like you lose or gain grip? So far I’ve seen that with the GT3 tires the colder you can run them the better. As strange and counter intuitive as that sounds it is definitely how they work as of now. I’ve had purple sector times on out laps just because the tires are so cold. It’s the exact opposite of hards which have zero grip when they are cold. Also I just did a 2 hour race at Monza and the softs could last over an hour! That’s with driving on the carcass for a decent amount of laps and not losing any performance from the tire. I’m not a tire engineer but I don’t think the carcass should have the same grip as the tread. The long stint is also a result of the softs gaining more and more grip as they cool down when the tread wears thin. This offsets the wear and the decreasing fuel load all add up to an increase in performance on fully worn softs. :indiff:

I have not witnessed this... my naptime have been faster the warmer my tires so far (up to their optimal etc.) ... However I haven' done every car/track combo?? In regards to grip and wear I agree, I have never had to do a pitstop in a 1-2 hour race yet as I don' really feel like there is much point (other than fuel)

You should try out the GT3 softs on a really slow out lap to keep the tires cold then try a fast out lap and see how your next flying laps compare. That’s how I discovered the cold tire phenomenon.

I will give this a try when I get the chance!

@F1Racer68 Do you use the pCars 2 version of the dash app you have to buy through RS Dash? If so does it have any new features for pCars 2?
I do use the new RSDash with the PCARS license, yes.

At the moment there isn't a lot new about it, so if you have the older app I would suggest continuing to use it for now. The only really new.feature is that RS Dash now also shows you gearbox damage. As opposed to just aero and engine.

There hasn't been an update for it yet, since pcars2 has not yet provided the updated udp data stream, so you only get the same data you got in pcars1. Once that enhanced udp stream is available (in an upcoming game patch), then they are promising an update to the app as well.

The other advantage to the new one is if you play multiple sims. You can purchase in app access to the other sims as well. It's nice having 1 app for all my sims.

So I just downloaded the new rs dash app and the telemetry page has a flippin g-force readout! Is there a way to watch your previous lap in replay or a way to store the data and rewatch it? That would be soooo useful.

I wish! Great feature, but hard to read while driving.

Is there an official list or some where in the games files where we can find the optimum tyre pressure for each tire?

Thank you, not exactly what I was looking for, but most likely the closest I will get.
According to that list there would be only 8 different tires in all of PCars 2 and all tires for one type of cars, like let say, touring cars would have the same optimum pressure, but the some cars would have a different optimum pressure for shor, medium or long track, it just does not make sense. The optimum pressure for a particular tyre is always the same, the only variable is what cold temperature, for a particular track, needs to be to at in order reach the optimum temperature.

I’m not quite sure what you are looking for. Can you give another example?

I think my post is crystal clear, where is the data indicating what the tires optimum pressure is?

I can assure you it crystal clearly is not. :D At least 55 people were satisfied with the info in the post that was linked to. I think you'll be too if you read it again.
