Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (C5) '04 550PP - SS
About me:
These are my impressions, opinions and also me driving, so take what you want and throw the rest in the garbage. The reason I do these reviews is that it helps me as tuner to get better by learning the things “to do” and the “not to do”.
I think that anyone who puts out a tune to be reviewed deserves that we be honest with them, it’s the only way that we can help them better themselves at this craft. I think that we all want to get better at this and that we can all use some help from one another to achieve our goals. If you find that I’m to harsh, please tell me.
About the Tests:
All my lap times are shown in total seconds per lap, I use this method because it’s easier to calculate averages and other things. I run 9 laps on a track and keep my best 3 to calculate the average. I do all the testing in the garage test tracks, track grip = low.
I use a PS3 controller all aids off, abs according to tuner.
Trial Mountain
Guess what after putting the correction from your post I still wasn’t getting the right values
, I said to myself that maybe you just forgot to mention you did an oil change
, so I did that, and that wasn’t it
. Bought a new one started over and saw my mistake. I put Catalytic converter instead of the sports computer
. Damn I hate it when I do things like that
.
I chose Trial Mountain for your “Tuner’s Track” because the picture you had, seemed to have been taken their, if it wasn’t, sorry about that.
This one feels totally different from the others:tup:, I think the best description that I can think off is it feels like your in a boat, mind you this is on trial mountain where the waves are pretty big. I found it easy to predict when the car would not make it in/out of curves, just follow the cars sway. I think there might be a little to much body movement for this track, on the other hand if I had taken the time I think that I would have got some incredible pictures here. The oversteer and body movement does make you lose time, but it’s rather fun, I actually did extra laps trying different approaches to the curves and bumps, finally stopped when I rolled
over on the last curve before the finish line, you know the one where there’s that ground/dirt that has a slight slope, I hit it
.
Deep Forest
To drive this car here you have to use the control of the throttle (gas pedal) a bit, after a bump let go the gas and then peel away, what’s fun is that every little decision has an impact on your lap time, the downfall is that it’s hard to be fast and consistent. Same problem as the track before, to much oversteer, to much body roll, I think these two conditions are brothers in arm, get rid of one and the other will disappear too.
Tsukuba
Generally, smooth here, body roll is less omnipresent, the only thing I can say that I wish it had more speed, I found it was a little too slow here, the engine sound makes you think your making top chrono’s, but when you look at the numbers your kind of disappointed
.
General
Brakes:
Real nice balance, this actually saves the car quite often when the body roll wants to take you for a visit too the neighboring walls/trees.
Power:
In general I found my lap times a bit slow, but before blaming it on this section I would interrogate Mister “Suspension”.
MLSD:
I found that with a PS3 controller it’s hard to ease up the gas in a gradual manner which makes out of curves acceleration a bit problematic. If the acceleration sensitivity is not point perfect and you give to much gas your nose goes in or out but not straight. In this case the nose would dive towards the turning side.
Transmission:
I found this interesting, can’t say if it’s good or bad, but I like it when people do different things (especially something I didn’t think off). I took a note of this and will try some experiments with it.
Suspension:
Ok, here is something that is sometimes good:tup:, bad
, fun
and also a pain
. This is just my 2 cents, and since I’m canadian it’s really only worth 1 cent, in my opinion the problem is not the softer spring rates but the ratio between the front/rear spring rates, again I could (and probably) be wrong.
General:
It was fun to try this, I really like cars that are setup differently (feel wise) gives me the opportunity to try things I would not have thought off, no matter what the outcome it’s always gratifying. I had a few apprehensions before doing this one, mainly because of all the little problems I encountered in making the setup work, almost felt it was possessed
, and that I shouldn't touch it, good thing I don't even listen to myself.
Have good day and thanks for sharing this with us.
