**CAR OF THE WEEK! Friday 11/05/12**

Having grown up in a '68, this will be like walking down memory lane. My uncle had one when I was a kid. A convertible. When I was 18, he was sent to DUI detox for 6 months, and I inherited the car, atleast while he was gone. And yes, I'm well aware the Z28 was offered in 69, I'm not an idiot.

Challenge Accepted.

Oddly enough, the wheel wells are wrong on the RM. Should be squared. Could just be the angle of the photos.

The GT RM version is created by Polyphony and isn't technically real so that's why they changed the body slightly. Probably more aerodynamically superior and helps make it look different than the plain Z28.

Actually, I don't believe the Trans Am cars had the squared fenders either. And I know PD created it, I heard Translator-san.

What, it's only Tuesday! I may have to go back and do a COTW that I missed from earlier, four days is too long to wait 👍

Glad you enjoyed a taste of an old rival. Sounds like I was a bit more cautious than you: do you use ABS? I've just started driving without it.

Oh you can't be cautious with these cars, they were meant to be driven and driven hard, finesse will not be rewarded! I think the ABS is set to 1, not sure as I have not looked in ages.

Say that when you own one. As a child, I wasn't allowed to play within 50 ft of my uncle's Camaro, my grandfather's 65 Mustang, or my grandmother's 75 convertible Vette. I was taught to respect cars before people.

When you own one, I'm willing to bet it's pampered. Drive 'em, but hardly thrashed.

I say it now as I said it then and I did own and race one, three as a matter of fact. Were they pampered? If you mean were they always washed & waxed, meticulously maintained and garage kept...you betcha! Were they driven and driven hard...d*mn straight, that is what they were made for!
As a child I was also taught to respect cars, working with my fathers 100pt classic show cars and my uncles race shop. What I am saying is there is a BIG difference in the way you race a sports car (a few of which I have owned and raced) and the way you race a muscle car. Finesse will get you nowhere but the back of the grid in a muscle car.
Of course these days a classic muscle car sells for about as much as a good starter home so many have become trailer queens. I often smile when I think back of the cars you would find at a family reunion on my moms side. It could easily be mistaken for a concourse event with million+ dollar inventory! Back then they were simply hot rods :)

I did a quick comparison between the SS and Z28 - just 5 laps around Trial Mountain.

SS at 313 BHP and 457pp on SH: 1:47.8xx
Z28 at 295 BHP and 454pp on SH: 1:42.5xx

The SS is much more the expected muscle car experience. Softer suspension and wallowing, big understeer on entry, and a more tail happy exit. Just more sliding about in general. Acceleration is quite a bit quicker than the Z, but the short gearing leads it to top out at 113mph.

The Z felt almost tight after a few laps in the SS.

Go that way... really fast. If something gets in your way.... turn. Great movie!

Some great reviews and pictures so far.

Now sort of imagine that you have just found these from a old brochure. That's the style I was going for when I did these. Hope you like them.
