Howdy all, just an idea that popped into my head. Every few days or so I will be polling different groups of cars.

Rule: If you say x car is your favorite, you must also explain why. Light discussion about the cars in the poll is also allowed, and encouraged.

So, round 1 of the polls will be about muscle cars. Here are your ten cars to choose from:

1966-1969 Chevrolet Camaro

1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS

1970-1974 Chevrolet Camaro

1968-1970 Dodge Charger R/T

1970-1974 Dodge Challenger

1969-1970 Ford Mustang

1967-1970 Mercury Cougar

1970-1974 Plymouth Cuda

1970 Plymouth Super Bird

1967-1969 Pontiac Firebird

If I had to choose, I pick the Superbird. Why? It has a very powerful and loud V8, looks very macho, and out of all the muscle cars to choose from it seems like the best one for smokin' the tires.

So, which do you choose?

Let's not be silly. Why is the 1968-1970 Charger R/T your favorite?

I don't know, honestly. I suppose it is bias because I've been around Mopars more than anything else and ever since I was a kid I've always loved the second generation Chargers. They look fantastic, sound great and just have a presence about them. Honestly, I wouldn't have a single complaint if any of the cars above showed up in my garage.

I'm going with the Cougar on this one. Something about them that makes me like them...a lot.

And what if one doesn't consider 7 of the 10 muscle cars at all?

Edit: Make that 8--the Superbird, while based on the Road Runner, was a homologation special--leaving a GM A-body and a Mopar B-body.

70-74 Camaro for me. Reason being, it was such a sudden change from the previous generation of camaro's. The body, front and rear ends, they all changed, for the good side. It was like a new unique muscle car to me, considering those times. And due to that spoiler, awfully similar to a certain other car, it was proven, the Firebird was going to be it's new rival.

I really like staring at the rear end of those Camaro's. They were unique for that time. Reminding just a bit of the Corvette.

I picked the Cougar because it's just a cool car. Not many people think 'muscle car' when thinking about a Mercury. Seems sort of underrated and subtle compared to the rest, but is still very cool, and that's why I like it.

It would be nice to have the option of 'Other' in the poll.
Truly. Ford's the only one there without something I'd consider a muscle car (in this instance, a big-body car on a platform shared with a 4-door), and I'd be inclined to go with a Fairlane or Galaxie. Better still...a Marauder.

@Nessy I suspect he meant the other thread doesn't have a poll, it was just worded poorly.

I decided not to add an "other" option to the poll because there are way more than 10 classic muscle cars out there. What might happen is that the majority of the votes will be for "Other" and not the 10 cars already in the poll. But if everyone wants that, I guess I'll have to add "other" to the polls.

Why does it say 'poll' in the thread title then? Just saying.
Because ten cars are being polled, that's why.

But if everyone wants that, I guess I'll have to add "other" to the polls.
Or just be more inclusive. Setting aside the definition of "muscle car," shouldn't there still be a big-body Ford to go with the big-body GM and Mopars (because there are two)?

Consider your statement:
you have to post reasons in this thread, and there is no poll
The implication is that you have to post a reason in this thread, and there isn't a poll in this thread. If you were referring to another thread regarding the lack of a poll, you ought to have said so. The confusion was justified.

Should I add more than 10 options for the next poll (on Wednesday)?

Yeah, I hear you. If enough people want the option of 'other', then i'll add a vote. But until that happens, i'll abstain from voting for any of the predetermined selection.

So far, you and TexRex are the only ones in favor of this, but if I get a few more people who are also in favor, I will start adding the "Other" option.

In @The87Dodge 's defence, I think in this case he meant that the Would You Rather thread has no poll, not this thread.

Personally I would like to see a 'other' option, and the people should state their favourite and explain why. I personally think you shouldn't bother adding more than 10, otherwise there would be too many cars for one poll.

Indeed. Most of these cars are Pony cars, not muscle cars.

I'm so glad someone else recognizes the distinction.

Nothing wrong with Pony cars either (just Mustangs, Camaros/Firebirds and 'Cudas/Challengers because they're bellybuttons--okay, 'Cudas to a lesser extent but certainly not helped by the rehashed Challenger), I love the absolute crap out of a Javelin. They're simply not muscle cars in my eyes.

What is the difference between pony cars and muscle cars? I'm asking because I honestly don't know (never really looked into before).

Cars referred to as "muscle cars," I feel, ought to be larger vehicles, equipped with a performance V8 as standard, have two doors but share a chassis with a four-door and/or wagon, and built between 1964 and 1974, give or take.

Pony cars are generally smaller coupes and convertibles with a performance feel, if not actual performance, and were favored by road racers (think Trans-Am, the racing series rather than the car that adopted its name). It's also no coincidence they're referred to as Pony cars either, when the Mustang is considered by many to be the first.
