Car Wash

In Gt3, if you did a whole championship or endurance race, you could definitely tell that the car just looked dull. Washing it made a huge difference in the overall appearance (doubt it changes the performance much). As for gt4 I can't tell yet.

Right lets sort this out. The guys who thought washing your car would make it faster are wrong. I've done a test:

The test was simple. I had it in auto and I kept the 'x' button held firmly down on the DS2 controler all the time, even before you move.

Clio Sport Race Car (504BHP) 20.698 before and after clean
Polyphony 001 (box standard) 16.063 before and after clean
787B (964BHP) 16.766 before and after clean

So you see they're no faster. Of course you might get a different time than me because you might have different gearing. It's still a fair test I think.
Is this in the 400m or something? Because it would come into play as a function of top speed rather than ET. In a 16-second ET there's no chance for a sustained loss of top speed to really show itself.

The argument that clean cars are faster is based purely on the ticker tape at the bottom of the carwash screen in GT Auto. I can't really say I've tested it at all, but I'm not sure your test is conclusive.

So how can we check then? I think it was the 1000m. I can't check now as I'm running 24 hour race of Nurburgring.

Are you sure that it wont even differ by .001 of a second even if was 400m?

okay heres how the car wash works it improves how the air moves ove the car this may or may not effet the car by milla seconds BUT it will help with down force

The car wash is absolutely worth the cashola.

Have you ever driven a freshly polished GT-One Road Car at Deep Forest II in third-person? I rest my case.

Gran Turismo is not just about pure numbers and how fast can my car go, it is also about stellar graphics, detail, and art. It is (from an artist's standpoint, computer or traditional) pretty incredible, and i think alot of people tend to forget about this. Personally, i was bummed when i got GT2 and found that the cars in that game don't lose their shine--making the car wash a waste of memory. I'm glad it's back and working in gT3.

The car wash is in the game simply cuz Polyphony COULD put it in there. It's graphical genius. No, it isn't absolutely necessary, it has no function other than making a dull car shiny again, but that's what seperates GT from many other games--GT is not all about speed and winning.
