I am up to the 24hr at Spa which is a 4 hour real time race on short. Game is currently on pause as I am an hour in and need a break ;-)

What I have found so far:

This event is a dog's breakfast. Poorly thought out and even more poorly implemented. Qualifying and free practice are all 5 minutes. Considering how long it takes to get out of the pits and bearing in mind an average lap is say 2:25 and you are starting on cold tyres it is very hard to get a second lap in as the tyres are just not working yet or even up to pressure. Then, because the AI is soooooo slow to get on the track they do not post any qualifying times so I have no idea how much faster I am.

I know why they have done it, they have just divided the real times by 6. What I am saying is it just does not work very well in this game.

If you think that is bad enough it gets worse. Come race time driver stints are now 15 minutes so that is a pit stop every 5 laps. So you are either on your out lap or messing with you MFD and pit strategy trying not to break the rules. So **IF** you are lucky you may get two clean laps in a stint. This just has no flow and is just plain tiring. I just can't settle into a pattern and crank out consistent laps which you need to on this track. A big shame really because I love this track :(

Tip for Spa: DO NOT get a drive through penalty because it will kill you here ;-)

I noticed you can choose from different cars depending on how well you do in the young drivers test, does anyone know what medals give you access to which cars to choose from?

I’ve done a few tests on this subject, though this was a little while back (and sandbagging to get Silver or Bronze is a little tricky for me). I believe it goes like this:

If you do bad enough to get no medal at all, you’ll be restricted to the 911 GT3 R or the Emil Frey Jaguar. That’s it.

If you get a Bronze, you can choose from the V12 Vantage, either Continental, the NSX, the 650S, the AMG GT3 and the Reiter R-EX, in addition to the 911 and Jaguar.

Those who score Silver can also choose from either GT-R, while Gold players can choose the BMW M6 or the R8 LMS in addition to the other cars already listed.

If anyone can back this up with confirmed evidence, I would appreciate the help.

That totally blows. I figured the practice and qualifying times were simple a byproduct of them dividing the race length up base on your choice of length, but for a 24hr to still be that short is just ridiculous.

Nurburgring Race Weekend

Q1 1'57.798 3rd (-0.054 from pole)
Q2 1'57.276 3rd (-0.2 from pole)

Felt comfortable straight away here, and should really have had pole in both sessions

Race 1
OK start, and slipped down the inside of the Ferrari in to turn 1, held him off through turn 2, and then set about building a lead... running consistent mid/low 57's. Pitted at half distance and exited with a 2s lead. Couldn't run the same pace in the 2nd stint, but held the lead to the finish.

Race 2
Pretty much the same as race one. More pace in the 1st stint and saw a 1'56,4 fastest lap. Pitted from the lead at half distance and exited with a 1.5s gap to 2nd. Extended this to 2s at the finish.

Slowly rebuilding my stats after the nightmare of Hungaroring!

Despite only 2 DNF's, no medal on the Brands test, multiple poles & race victories I ended season one with a bronze cup... and can't continue with the Audi in season 2. I would have easily won the Championship with those results. God knows what you need to do to get gold... this at was Pro level

Can't decide what car to use next... Bentley, Honda or McLaren.

So no Ferrari?

That’s Paul Ricard done, 3rd place and onto Spa

I have the test session there next... going to have to run some practice laps I think!

Chose the Honda for my 2nd season... hopefully as it's decent to drive as it looks.

I stuck with the 650, as I just gel with it a lot.

I would suggest trying both in practice and seeing which one you like before choosing. If you can

This is why I’m doing a custom championship and not career mode. Full control over length of sessions and weather although I have it on random and I can adjust the AI without restarting etc and it’s an actual championship with points.

How does it work with the AI on that? Is there a few strong drivers that have a chance of the title or is it a totally random podium every race?

Right so after doing the young drivers test 3 times  1st go was gold chose the Porsche, didn't like it at all, 2nd go was silver, redid for the third time and got gold, so I obviously went with the...

Audi R8... na was the 2017 Reiter Engineering R-EX GT3

On normal I put it on pole for both races by 2.5sec... ok maybe difficulty is too low, but I'll carry on for now, won the first race, second one I'll do tomorrow,

Does anyone know why there's a 50board when leaving the pits at Solder and if that's 50pit limit after the initial 30, when does it end?

The 50 kph speed limit finishes very early in the pits at Zolder, once you past the first line you can gun it around the next bend (watch out for the barrier though)

ok 28.8 would be a bit too high. From 27.5 to 28.5 the middle bar of the tyre app is perfectly aligned with the inner and outer bar. with 28.8 the middle bar would be noticeably larger.

Yes I'm trailbraking a lot I would say. most of the time I only release brake at the apex. The brakes turn orange (in the tyre app) in most high speed braking zones. On straights they are green, but I would like to have them blue because they heat up so quickly, it doesn't matter if they are a bit blue. Better than brake-fading when they are too hot. Also the ABS sometimes couldn't handle it (on 2) and locked the front tyres two or three times... hello flatspots :D

Yes I'm running braked pad #2 in endurance races. #1 only in sprint races. Brake duct front was 5 (with 6 being highest) and rear at 1.

Yesterday I converted the pedals on my rig and made brake and clutch hanging. I have a much better brake control now and maybe I do more trailbraking than before. It's just too easy now doing it lol.
The Build yesterday ---> https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/finally-i-have-hanging-pedals-gt-style.394815/

I'm curious on your setup for the Audi

Just finished the Monza endurance. Won from pole by about 28sec. Clean pit stops and just kept a steady pace.

Here's my setup i used. I didn't spend too much time on the setup but it works for me with my cheap t3pa pedals (custom load cell)

Can't decide what car to use next... Bentley, Honda or McLaren.

i have used the Bentley for all the endurance events. It has a lovely sound and is a very sweet handling car. I used aggressive set up, usually rear sway bar down one click and rear suspension softer by one or 2 clicks (depending on how much rear rotation you want). Keep tyre pressures between 27.5-28psi hot. At Paul Ricard it will pull to 280Kph without slip stream on the main straight and loves the turn at the end ;-)

Finished the endurance race in Silverstone... another track I don't really like. I liked the 2002 layout more.
And I sometimes confuse Copse with Abbey, but now I just remember Abbey is the fast one with the red pit walls. and I associate red with redline in the rev-meter.
Copse has blue pitwalls and is slower, I don't know what to associate with blue that would make sense here :D ... red -> fast; blue -> slow, I hope I remember next time.

I don't think I was really fast but in all three Qs I drove on pole position with around 2:01.5. AI was almost 2 seconds slower.
In the race I tried to drive a bit more relaxed because I knew that AI wasn't so fast. But in the first 5 laps the guy I couldn't really get away from the others. Only very slowly. But after like 30 minutes I had a 7 seconds gap to the back. Then I fiddled around in the pit-hud and missed Abbey :D I spun out while being very fast. tyres were cooking and when trying to come onto the track again I spun again lol.
In the meanwhile 2nd place passed me and he had a 10 seconds gap.
At the first pitstop I was 5 seconds behind him but it was so crowded in the pitboxes that I could barely see my pitcrew. Then I saw them but had to pass through another car that was standing somewhat in the way. I couldn't see the lollipop-man and I already had switched ignition off. But then I saw that I stopped 5 meters too soon, had to start the engine again and then drive to my crew. I lost very much time... when my pit countdown still had 16 seconds left, the 1st place left the pitlane :banghead:

He now had a gap of over 20 seconds but I managed to get him before I made the second pitstop.

30 minutes before race end I hit some big sausage curbs very hard with the right tyres. And oh my god, both tyres started to loose pressure... I had friggin punctures :( The rear right lost like 0.15psi per lap, the front right not so much. But I in the end I finished with 26psi in the rear right and 26.8psi in the front right. Before that they were running at 28psi

I crossed the finish line with 0.7 L fuel ... had to set Map to 2 and 3 for some laps. And I made lift and coast in the last lap.

I also lapped all AI cars except 2nd place, had a gap of 40 seconds  it was a strange race.... Monza was much more fun.

Race pace was around 2:00.5, fastest lap was 1:59.4.
I lost 10(!) Car Control during the race because of the big spin, my 7 invalid laps, and I was sliding very often.. I guess CC doesn't like this :D

My "Total Rating" went down from 9133 to 8980 :( I just hate Silverstone... and Brands Hatch... It's a bit odd but I only like Oulton Park from the british tracks.

Sound very eventful! I was gonna start practicing for the Silverstone enduro but then i decided to watch the F1 qualifying instead. So I'll do it later tonight or tomorrow morning depending on if i get called in to work.

Im on call tonight. Fml

Hmmmm... I'm really struggling in the Honda at the Paul Ricard endurance test... My 1'58.6 is a whole 3s off the top AI's 1'55.5

Some of it is obviously me, but the AI seem very fast here... only around a second off the fastest YT laps I can find for the Honda... so Alien pace!

And Paul Ricard is killing my driver stats as badly as Hungaroring in the wet

I have finished the career and I think it’s glitched.

I have won every event (except one, got second at Paul Ricard DT penalty on last pitstop), scored fastest in all qualifiers and practice sessions, beat the AI in every other test event and increased all my driver ratings.

Ended up Bronze on 163,250 points. Since the halfway point where I got to change cars and start the enduro events I have not scored one track medal despite my stellar (yes, modest, I know) race record.

The PS4 Trophy, Driver for Hire popped at completion so the game knows I finished the career BUT I also should have gotten my Sprint trophy as well, finishing a short career with a gold cup. Also NO ONE has this trophy yet or the other two for medium and long career but there are other people that have finished the career with the Driver for Hire trophy.

To sum up, the game is definitely glitch because the other trophies that don’t pop are Smooth Flow, slipstream a car for 5 seconds. I have done this in every game mode now and it will not unlock.

Variety is the Spice of Life and Master of All, try every car and every track and win with every car also won’t unlock.

Enough on trophies I hear you say and more about the races ;-)

BEWARE of the AI! E.g last race at Barcelona at the start through the chicane an AI ran into the back of my car and cost me a safety point. Further in the race an about to be lapped AI shot from left to right across the track nearly taking me out so it could get into pit lane. Also happened at Spa!!! This weaving is not uncommon L During several races after lapping an AI your line is usually wrong for the next corner so these #$%$#ers dive bomb you to try and get a place back and try and smash you off the track (sometimes successfully).

Pitstops: You are allowed to drive through cars. I had an AI in my pit box so I parked on top of him and got to see the inside of his car ;-)

Night races: the headlights are pitiful and if you are a bit hard at seeing it is impossible so I just turned the driving line on and followed that. You can pause the game, go to settings and do it on the fly.

Weather: Not one wet or even damp race during the enduros.

Cars: The Audi is usually second and the fastest and the slowest is the Castrol Honda.

Game Save: Nah! Doesn't appear to be one. Every time I moved to the next event I would do practice and maybe one Qualifying session and then quit out of the game. Start it up next and would I start off back at free practice at the start.. So I did not dare quit out of any enduro event. At the 4 hour at Spa I just left the game on pause while I had a break. Back to the PS3 days and GT5 with the 24hr events that you had to do in one hit the same way :-( No way was I tempting losing hours of toil at Spa! So what happens with the long career then?! Do I have to use an UPS like I did with GT5?

My settings for the career were AI Skill at 82, Aggression at 2, length on short, tyre wear and fuel off and all assists off (except driving line at night). My lap times were up to 9secs a lap faster than the AI and I usually won by 1-3 laps. Why use such slow AI I hear you ask, because I want to beat the game and work out how it ticks rather than dice with a computer ;-) After this first play through I can honestly say the game has nailed my arse to the wall :-( A lot of hours and heartache went into this and all I achieved was to determine I am dealing with badly implemented software :-(

I love the tracks, I love the cars, I love the physics but I hate the graphics and I hate the glitchy software :-( If the software gets patched I could almost live with the graphics. At least they seem to have juddering as much after the last patch.

So off to Championship mode now and see if that is any better.

I am interested if anyone else runs into these same issues.

Before the races start there's the list of how to earn medals, so if you're on pole and win you won't get a medal for overtaking 2 cars and other things etc. Don't think it's glitches, just need to increase your difficulty next time

I read that as to gain extra points like getting pole. At Paul Ricard where I got second I was back as far as 5th after my drive through and by your reasoning I still should have gotten gold but nothing. I overtook 3 cars there.

Can't seem to finish Hungaroring race without getting disqualified. Done the race twice now just like any other race, but I just keep getting disqualified without knowing the reason for it. It would be nice to get some sort of "DISQUALIFIED, MOTHER:censored:!" message right away, not after a 20min+ race.

I've done my mandatory pit stop, changed driver and tires, obeyed track limits, haven't hit anyone, not speeding in the pits...

Are you 100% sure you're not hitting "Restart event" here? It's automatically selected when you enter this screen. I've never had to restart my whole race weekend so far.

Just tried the McLaren 650 at Paul Ricard in practice mode... 1.5s faster with it than the Honda... I may have chosen the wrong car D'oh!

Still absolutely hate that track.

The 1st Hungaroring race where it starts raining after 4 laps?

If it's this one, are you doing 2 pitstops? The 1st one doesn't give you the tyre change for some reason, despite it saying 'pit window open' as you're in the pits, and it registering the driver change.

I really struggled with that one... what level/car/strategy are you using if you're winning?

I had an instance where i got no warning at all for track limits and then immediately got a drive through or stop and go penalty. So i think there may be bugs with the warning system in general

Just finished the Silverstone endurance. Its 1 hr since im im short length.

Started from pole with a combined time of 2:00.559

The start was really smooth, just drive off and controlled it until the first pit stop. I lost some time since im not quite good at this pit entry yet not did i hit my box. So i probably lost about 4 sec total. I emerged just in front of 2nd place.

2nd stint was more of the same but i did almost bottle it a couple of times in the first corner and received 2 track limit warnings.

Pitted for my 3rd stint and did better on pit entry as well as my box, but still not perfect. I had about a 25sec lead though so no worries this time.

Got out of the pits and cruised away again. A few laps later i encountered traffic and almost ass rammed a Jag in the middle of the apex of maggots/beckets. Then a few laps later i totally went wide coming out of the esses, lost it and shot across to the right hand side of the track and barely kept it out of the barriers. I essentially mowed the grass on the right hand side of the hangar straight up until the bridge. There was poop.

After that i just settled in a bit and kept it clean until the flag.

My best lap was a 1:59.7xx

Still not as fast as SBTM
