It's amazing the kind of things that are available for download for free online these days. Carl Sagan's famous Cosmos documentary series, which is almost 25 years old, is available to freely download and watch via Google Video as per the link above.

I've read some of Sagan's books (Cosmos, Pale Blue Dot and The Demon Haunted World) but until recently I hadn't realised that his famous documentary series was available online. I've watched the first couple of episodes so far and though it's obviously dated, it still makes for powerful viewing. I recommend that you watch it now while it's still free to watch online.

(apologies if this has already been the subject of a thread, I'm just excited to see it freely available online)

👍 Perfect for a lazy Saturday afternoon - I've always wanted to see this. I've read 'The Demon Haunted World' as well, and I've always had a lot of time for the late Carl Sagan. This series should be (or perhaps should have been) compulsory viewing in schools across the world.

I love this bit:-

And there was the astronomer Ptolemy - who compiled much of what today's the pseudo-science of Astrology. His 'Earth-centered' Universe held sway for 1500 years - showing that intellectual brilliance is no guarantee against being dead wrong.

If you can stomach the slightly dated and ever-so slightly corny shots of Carl Sagan gazing up at the stars in his Star Trek-like cockpit, then you'll be OK... just listening to him speak is worth the time, even if the visuals are somewhat out-moded.

edit: Wow, 11 episodes - 1 hour each... this is going to require pizza... and beer... I already watched half of them and they are as fascinating as they informative... I'd really like to own these on DVD...
