Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds Die

Nobody should ever have to go through the heartbreak of losing a child. It has happened in my family 3 times in the past 16 years. My aunt, my cousin and then my brother. Debbie's heart couldn't take the loss of her daughter.

It's been happening since very early in the year. This is just one example posted on GTPlanet on January 17th 2016. It didn't take much effort to find.

If I listed to you all the things that happened to me this year and my family, I'd say 2016 has been one of my worst years. And it only gets conflated when some of your favorite singers, actors, artist, writers, etc die along the way and some you wouldn't expect it just makes a bad year much worse.

BBC has run an interesting article, where they listed all those prominent and not-so-much public figures who had passed on in 2016. Makes for a surprising reading, actually.

Not sure if it belongs here, but since it doesn't seem appropriate to open a new thread for it, I'll just put the link here. Happy new year, people....

RIP. I didn't watch many of the Star Wars movies but Carrie was an excellent actor.

Prayers for the both of them and their family.

Crossposted with the Star Wars thread, but Disney is now getting paid $50 million due to her death.

As a bit of background, Disney took out a contract protection insurance policy in the scenario that Fisher couldn't fulfill her contractual obligations. Her untimely death prevented those plans from ever taking place, and so the insurance policy, which Lloyd's of London is on the hook, is very likely to trigger, making it the "market's biggest ever single personal accident insurance claim."

This 2016 crap is driving me nuts. The universe doesn't care what year we've decided it is, there isn't going to be some kind of paradigm shift when we cross the date line in to 2017 on Saturday. This will continue regardless of what year it is because the number of celebrities has increased exponentially in the past fifty years, they have to go eventually.
To be fair, 2016 sucks not because of famous people deaths.

All people will be dead regardless of what year. Condolences to her, though.
