So uhh, this movie is pretty damn amazing. Personally my all time favourite Disney movie. The attention to detail, the story, the call backs to Cars 1, the appreciation of the history of the sport and also references to the current state and future of stock-car racing is just outstanding. The casual movie goer wouldn't understand, but the motorsport enthusiast and history buff will absolutely love this. So many cool little things like historic tracks and figures, just really made this movie for me. I went into it with little hopes, but I've been blown out of the water. Can't wait to watch it again.

I went to see it opening night with my friend, and we were both amazed at how good it was. But like @NW48 said, if you're not into motorsports, a lot of references will go over your head. The first half of the movie reminded me a lot of Dale Jr. getting his concussion after crashing at Michigan last year, and almost not being able to choose when he would retire.

After being disappointed with Cars 2 and it's sudden jump from the child-friendly atmosphere to something similar to a discount James Bond film, I gotta say, I was impressed with Cars 3. Wow. It's a fantastic movie. The acting, storyline, and presentation are outstanding, as one should expect from Pixar. Cruz Ramirez is actually one of my favorite characters from the film, and the journey you embark on to learn about her backstory during the film allows you to really grow attached to her.
Also, Jackson Storm is an arse. A lovable arse, but still an arse.

I finally saw it this week. Well, I loved it and I personally think it was overall better than the 1st Cars movie. There were a few scenes and characters that turned out different from what I expected based on the trailers. The highlights of the movie for me were the flashbacks with Doc Hudson and Thomasville Speedway.

Movie came out on DVD and Blu-ray today. Just picked up my copy.

Just watched it. Was cute. Funny moments and pretty clever bringing it back to a racing movie.

Reviving the thread with a bit of a Hot Take.

I finally got to watch the movie, I loved Cars as a kid and I actually didn't mind Cars 2 (though it really should've been a spin-off instead a sequel), I missed my chance to watch Cars 3 and never got into trying to see it until tonight.

However, I couldn't finish it, I stopped after the failed training session. I loved the very opening bit with call back to Cars 1 and neat little interactions, it really tried to set up as the actual Cars 2, but when the story actually got started, it lost me really fast.

I understood the principle of the movie about aging, moving away for the younger generation and of course in the Motorsport sense, advances in technology that make older race cars fast at one era be obsolete in the other (look at Super GT500s history and you see some massive jumps) but I thought it was boring. It was getting this principle slow and drawn out constantly punching down on Lightning with no chance to get back up, didn't really find a character to enjoy yet to encourage me to keep going either, which is usually the element thatll keep me coming back to something even if I hated it.

Not to say I'm against movies with the point that the Main Character couldn't achieve his goal and had to settle for something else, Monsters University has that and I thought that was well done, difference is in MU, Mike is still constantly trying to fight up and actually gets to succeed in moments and even was able to prove them all wrong at the final competition only for the rug to be pulled and realise Sully cheated for him to win which actually still proved them right, the message comes in quick to let you feel the weight of it and the characters. Cars 3 with Lightning feels like the same bandage but this time the bandage is pulled at a much slower rate and weight has already been felt and lost 30 minutes ago

I can't necessarily pick on Cars 2 anymore, as at least I was able to finish that one
