I got a few pictures of it. Also snapped it again at a restaurant the following day.

Have the sideblades in brushed stainless steel (I don't think you can from the factory) and you have my idea of the perfect R8.

I personally think all R8s look their best with body-coloured sideblades. However, I think, as you say, a sideblade matched to the finish of the wheels would also look the part.
 
It's very rare, hence odd.
Rare as it may be, blue isn't an odd color though, esp. not for high performance cars. Blu Hera is rare & much different from what people normally choose, but it's nowhere near as odd as Verde Ithaca. The shade of it & having that carbon fiber side panel helps balance it on the Audi.

A rare & odd blue is that 16M above.
