My personal thought on this is, yes the camera pan is awkward at first, but for circuits with tight angled/banked corners, green hell comes to mind, I can't even see where I'm turning the car, so the camera pan is very helpful and the motion blur helps add to the urgent and intense feeling of driving a rolling death trap at high speeds. It doesn't make any sense to me -- having the camera automatically look into the corner throws off my frame of reference, and the auto-focusing blur has nothing to do with where I want to look at a given moment -- but I'm all for the option being there.
