Honestly someone come on here and defend this over a qualifying
I'm not going to defend it. We should have standing starts by default, but I understand why PD favour rolling starts - they're a softer/easier option for casual players that are new to racing games. It gets them upto speed quicker and gives the engagement of chasing down 1st rather than just having a great start and being in first before the first corner.
PD want GT to be as appealing to beginners and seasoned racers.
Official response from PD? No. I don't think we'll ever get an official response on why they insist on rolling starts. Is that Pds offical joke excuse for it?
Totally unnecessary, but in line with their idiotic type of thinking.

If players had the choice to set the average AI PP or car class, and set own PP, then no problemo to start from standstill. Takes a gew hours or a few days to code. But you know, PD.!It's the only way they can make it competitive with their crummy AI.

In GT1 it wasn't optional. I would end up starting first 99% of the time (unless I purposefully went in with an under-powered car), and then it's just driving around by myself (unless I made a drastic mistake) for the rest of the race. Boring.there's no way people actually did qualifying against the AI in previous games lol?? none of the races were hard enough to justify it
I didn't play earlier games than GT3/4, it's either standstill start or the first car starts 5 seconds ahead which is tolerable. GT5 had somewhat better chase the rabbit than GT6>S>7?there's no way people actually did qualifying against the AI in previous games lol?? none of the races were hard enough to justify it
