Look at the Audi R8 Race car '01 or any Lancia rally car... Why has the "Martini" and "Infineon" sponsorship been replaced by vaguely similar designs and some boxes?

sandy106, texas/sweden? thats a big change.

anyway, the answer is either of two things. first it is that alcohol/tobacco companies are not allowed to sponsor certain cars on more than A certain in certain countries. hence why the ferrari f1 cars are generally just red and dont say marlboro. i will refrain from personal comments on that other than i dont agree with it. the reason the game maker would probably give is licensing. i dont agree with that bc the reason for sponsorship IS to get your name in front of people. but anyway, that is your answer.

I remember on GT4, they had an advert for the NRA! I didn't think that was allowed... 👍

The Coors Light sponsor is blurred out on both doors of the Montoya Impala.

Edit - The same sponsor is blurred on some of the other Nascars that have it.

If the game had the alcohol/tobacco sponsors in the game, I presume the game would have to be rated 18+ due to alcohol/tobacco references...

Cant remember the car, maybe the Diablo, or one of the drift machines, but there is an "Endless" (brake pads) logo, but it has been shortened to "Endles_".

Maybe they dont want to be associated with GT5, lol.

Lol, i got the same on my Tony Stewart NASCAR, Somewhere at the front of the car.
Its a bit vague...

Heres a picture of it on my #14 NASCAR. The blurred out sponsor is right after the big 14, on the side of the car.

it's mainly down to use of Copyright by the manufacturer or prduct maker etc.. basically licensing rights hence why you can't put a turbo on a Ferrari (CAUSE FERRARI SAID SO!!) lol :)

The cars that have tobacco sponsors on them are old. It was still allowed then, they should let them be.

Motor racing with tobacco sponsorship was on TV all the time and was never for 18+ viewing only.

It is indeed down to toy regulations - the same reason why the major slot car manufacturers cannot add these logos to cars. They are not allowed to put a decal sheet in with the car either - but what they can do is hide the correct logos under factory applied stickers that can be removed with sticky tape.
It would be nice to have the option of having a correctly liveried car, but the fact you could take these cars online could be an issue :-(

I've always thought the ban on tobacco/alcohol advertising was stupid anyway. Oh wow, theres a car that says Marlboro on it, i'm going to go buy some cigarettes now. If you already smoke it may remind you to go buy some, but you really have to be a bit stupid to be encouraged to do it by an advert!

Yep, that's the Coors Light sponsor that's been blurred out. It seems even the smallest alcohol sponsors are altered in this way.

They also removed the Alitalia logos from the Rally Stratos and replaced them with Polyphony logos...

Look in new car dealer at the castrol toms supra. It says YOKOGAWA on the door? It looks to be in the same font as yokohama (not sure how its supposed to be spelled sorry) would be in. I wonder why they would have to change that

I don't see why they censor it, its just a logo..

Two reasons.

#1 This is a game rated for all ages, advertising that contains alcohol or cigarettes is a big no-no. It would increase the rating, among other things.

#2 Licensing is another factor, if the company doesn't allow PD to use their logos - new or old - they can't use it. PR stuff you know...

Has anyone noticed that the RACC logo in side of the Xsara '99 is removed in GT5? :indiff:

And I also noticed why they also took the Phillips logo off on the Renault 5 GrB?

The Esso Ultraflo Supra '01 has been omitted from the game completely due to, I believe, the fact that Esso are now called Exxon. Also the cars that had Esso sponsorship on them (Toyota GT-One, Peugeot 905 and the Peugeot 206 rally car, these are only the ones I've noticed) have had the stickers changed to say Exxon. And I think they look stupid.

IMO, trying to protect kids from alcohol and tobacco by censoring the branding in video games is like trying to stop a leaky roof with tissue paper. Many kids' parents smoke and/or drink to some degree. Convenience stores are full of cigarette ads (and beer too, in many cases). Every sports event on TV is full of beer commercials. A significant number of the cars at any NASCAR event have The Dreaded Vice Branding. It's impossible to insulate kids from this stuff.
