So I got some Frosted Flakes Gold on sale at Target.

It's marketed as a whole-grain cereal with honey instead of the usual "frost" of sugar. They say the complex carbs are supposed to give you more energy throughout the day. This is perfectly understandable, as regular Frosted flakes are an insulin spike in a box.

Problem is, it still has 10 grams of sugar per serving. That's not too huge of an improvement.

I look in the box and the flakes are noticeably darker with the absence of the usual frosting. They also have these dark spots that I thought were mold or bugs. I guess it's just the whole grain or the new honey-coating. Speaking of that honey coating, the entire bag is sticky now.

The flakes themselves are a LOT harder. They don't really disintegrate in your mouth like regular Frosted Flakes. Instead, they just break down into smaller particles of flake while retaining their initial toughness. It's a resilient cereal.

The taste is somewhere between a really weak Canadian honey, one of those cereal yogurt bars, and a vanilla protein shake. It's kind of gross, to be honest. It's an interesting taste, but I can't imagine starting my morning with it every day. I think it would taste better with some fruit. I'll give that a try later. Usually, those yogurty/shake tastes need some kind of fruit to balance them out. I'm pretty sure that will hold true with this cereal as well. That, or it will be a big bowl of fail.

On a scale from 1-10, where 0 is inedible, 5 is adequate, and 10 is superlative, I give this cereal a 4/10, while I would give regular Frosted Flakes a 6/10.

Sorry, Kelloggs, but Frosted Flakes > Frosted Flakes Gold.
