Sony made a announcement few months back, that they are looking at making ps3 a paid online service. Which IMHO its a great move. I'll be happy to pay whatever price to have a better online service with better servers etc!

My online experience is just fine, and I think you'll find that the subscription wasn't to provide better servers.
