I have a crazy idea.......

Just add a shelf over the armrests and bingo... Has anyone tried this with an Adirondack Chair?

I've seen it done with an Ikea Poang. Looks like it would work well, though the wheel may be a tad close for the tall, lanky folks out there.

I was thinking of just slapping a couple 1x2 boards on there with wing bolts and it would be removable and adjustable. Also an extension on the right to accommodate the shifter:)

I considered the poang chair, but I hate the "bounce" that chair has.

You can achieve something similar with almost all chairs, I'm just not sure how comfortable that one would be after a while. Obviously you'll have to add cushioning before your vertebrates wear out within the first hour.

Not to mention no quick pitstops if you know what I mean. :nervous:

If you're serious about your endurance racing, you'll just go in your racing suit. Sucks for the next guy during the driver change though. ;)

I just started gathering materials to build my first racing cockpit. I'll create a new thread for the build.

Before I bought my 47" lcd tv for my room, my PS3 was down stairs as was my wheel. I used a 2x4 and a ratchet strap and strapped the 2x4 to the chair and mounted the wheel to the 2x4. It worked pretty good lol.

I wasn't that kind of chair, well it was but it was a living room chair that was non reclining

Well I was really bored at work today and I was thinking about a new project. I was throwing different ideas around and I wanted something free. So this is what I came up with:

I figured that I could score one that one of the local schools are willing to give away. I could just take the top off and lengthen it a bit, it would be pretty nice and easy.

I have a G27 mounted on a coffee. It has a marble top so the wheel does not move not even a little. When I'm in the kitchen the table there has a marble top as well. It's like 100 pounds so that doesn't move either. I have a question I wanted to put an aftermarket wheel on my G27, still under warranty. Would it void my warranty if I do it? If I have to send it back, can't I just put loctight on the Allen screws? I couldn't find any info on this.

I was given an old Sunbeam gas grill that someone had completely trashed, very similar to the one pictured below:

I took it apart, laid the frame down on it's back, started adding wood and giving the new top a bit of a rake, and came up with this:

I know, looks pretty ghetto.... wifey decided that she didn't want all the bare plywood exposed, so she covered it in an old blanket. I've modified it since the picture was taken, I removed the wood planks on the sides, cut the tubing off the top, and cut out half circles from the sides to make it easier to get in/out of. All of the plywood was free, as it was all scrap, and I spent about $5 in hardware....

Here are a few photos of my build. Not quite done yet but hopefully it will be usable very soon.

All-in-all, I have about $100 into the build minus the Logitech G27. I had a spare set of seats from my car for year, glad I held onto them and I'll be using my 20" widescreen computer monitor for now.

I think it is the oddest looking rig up till now. Lol
I personally wouldn't last in that seat though, plus since I use 3 pedals there are bars in the way. But looks like its perfect for your DFGT. Great find and great work, especially for no money at all. ;)

GreenGuy, that's not bad for found on the side of the road! I'd have to add a dead pedal to it though...

didn't want to spend any money and I have limited materials and tools available.
