Cheating

After reading the front page news:

https://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-5-hacking-begins-via-ps3-exploit/

How long until the cheating makes it's way to the academy? With the PS3 being cracked tomthe core, anything can be digitally signed and become "official". All someone has to do is add just enough to get that extra second they need and it would be nearly impossible to tell. Simply making the comfort tires perform like racing tires would help anyone.

Anyone who cheats online will be brought to light in the finals.

Lets pray that noone has figured out how to cheat, and if they have, they don't bring it to the Academy.

I hope not but it is only a matter of time. Especially since they are giving away a free wheel and seat each week makes it lucrative.

Doesn't matter at all really. Sony will find out they are cheating, and they'll be DQ'd from the rest of the competition. I can almost guarantee it.

This isn't possible anyway (thank god). The only thing that can be altered via codehacking is game data. IE your cars in your garage.
Since the cars for the GTAcademy are hosted on the server and not in game they are invulnerable to this form of hacking.

I want to believe that but these guys are very smart. Sure the cars are stored on a server (I'll take your word) but the game still has to render the cars on the individual PS3. The server tells my PS3 to render a 350z with comfort tires but my "signed" and "official" PS3 renders racing soft as comfort tires. Because this crack is using official Sony encryption it is official. The whole reason Sony is suing is because of the severity of this hack. It isnt simple file manipulation, this is full blown OS manipulation.

It's not possible. What ever check Sony servers request, the hacked OS can be programed to return, signed and official.

As a programmer I have to say that you would have to be more than "very smart" to pull this off. You would have to hack both the PS3 encryption and the online server to be able to alter the vehicles. The more likely hack would be for someone to hack the SRF block or something to do with the physics. (Still not easy by any means) And Sony has their own encryption and security sectors who's entire job is to prevent stuff like that from happening. They would track the people down plus it would be blatantly obvious even from watching a replay. Go drive that car with SRF on or racing tires in practice :D It makes a HUGE difference in driving style.

See link in my first post and Google PS3 hacked. The encryption is busted wide open and it is hard wired into the PS3 so Sony can do nothing to stop it. They are trying to sue but it is not working out for them. This is not a simple hack, the total PS3 has been cracked from the inside out to include all the encryption. Only time will tell.

It's not worth worrying about. Why worry about something that is out of your control? Just do the best you can and let the chips fall where they may.

It doesn't matter anyway. Eventually, when the cheater(s) reached the later rounds when it involves heads up racing, their cheating would be obvious because either the car would be acting differently or their obviously crappy driving would put them in last. 👍

I also think you could tell by watching the replays. Say if they changed the physics of the tires on Cape, they could easily run like a 2:40 with a ****** line, or if they aimed for a 2:45 or 2:44 it would be obvious they were sandbagging by either the noise of the tires or the throttle control. They might be able to get into round 2 without a replay, but the cutoffs for the rest of the rounds wouldnt let them get any further.

I'm working on a design in SolidWorks that incorporates carbon fiber blades and rotating assembly and fits perfectly under the hood of a Nissan 370Z. I have retrofitted a design with the basic specification in a cheap high nickel content alloy and have already tested the system succesfully on the Cape myself with great success. Feel free to watch my videos also to see this in action.
