The How fares it test......

Blue skies, white clouds and plenty of fresh air, yes folks it's the Matterhorn, race 1 of 3 at Rotenboden. The field is made up of many a young lad's dream car's. We have the Lancer Evolution X Rally Car, Quattro S1 Rally Car, 205 Turbo 16 Evolution 2, RS200 Rally Car, 205 Turbo 16 Rally Car, Lancer Evolution Super Rally Car, CZ-3 Tarmac Rally Car, 206 Rally Car and the Impreza Rally Car. What a field and the final car to take it's place..........is someone taking the ..., what the hell's that doing there, get it off the track his sat-nav must have gone wrong. Hold on folks just getting word.....what do you mean he's a late entry, sorry people there's been a late entry and it's a......a.....I can't bring myself to say it............green light and the race is off.............

The WHY!!

I saw some event's for a certain style of car and guessed most people would run those and pretty much nothing else in this style of car, so I tallied up how much you would get for the 4 events with the 200% login bonus and it came to 127,240. So time to choose the car, build it for less than what I could earn in those 4 race but just maybe, there may be a chance of pulling it out of the garage for some other races.
Now i could have gone to another manufacturer but then chances are those 4 races now would be 3 as I would be refused entry to one of them, what with it being restricted to a certain manufacturer.
Manufacturer in question is Toyota and the car in question in case you are wondering what the hell I'm yapping about is the Prius.
The beginning of a thread will have a little write up of taking my Prius to an event where it's way outclassed.

The Big Spend

So grab yourself a Toyota Prius G (J) '09 cost 24,500
Parts to purchase - FA Suspension, Race Brakes, Sports Cat, ECU, Race Exhaust, Intake, Manifold, Stage 1 engine tune up, FA Differential, Sports Hard Tyres, Stage 3 Weight reduction and Window Weight Reduction.
I think the bill for car and parts is about 124,000 so under budget just.

Side by Side with the GT Team Version

Toyota%2BPrius%2Bg.jpg

Above the bog standard Prius, below Gran Turismo's Prius On Steroids Version

gran-turismo-5-dlc-cars-11-640x360.jpg

Well pretty obvious the GT created version looks a little better, ours still looks like you "I do care about the enviroment" POC.
Round about the 400PP mark and above theirs only once choice if you did take to the track and that's to use the GT Version, it's a good 56BHP better off and lighter by some 175kg....BUT downgarde the GT version to near enough match up to ours and ours wins, the extra drag just kills the GT one this low down the PP range and it's price tag is a bit steep especially coming on Racing tyres which is a bit of overkill for the Prius.

The Figures

378PP / 145BHP / 1110kg / 58:42 / Sports Hard / FF

Suspension: 105 75 / 3.65 5.25 / 5 2 / 5 2 / 4 1 / 0.5 0.0 / -0.05 -0.10
Brakes: 6 9
Differential: 5 / 25 / 5

The Races

Like I said there's the One Make Race for the Prius and the Electric races to take the car to. Like me you will find it's rather easy with the car and it's build, the Electric races proved quite dull and the Prius can quite easily take the lead on lap 1.

The Real Test

A you can tell by the threads start, the Prius is going to the Matterhorn and the three stages thats held there in the Gornergrat Challenge, the car will be run as is so will be outclassed as the Race restrictions are set at 600PP and Sports Soft whereas the Prius comes in at 378PP and Sports Hard Tyres.

Race 1: Soon notice that running on Sports Hard is limiting the car on the very tight turns, the lack of power is a big handicap in this race when it comes to the up hill sections and cars which are way behind are soon big in my mirrors and flying pass me BUT the car excells in the downhill section and even with Race brakes fitted I only need them at the end of the hill section. By end of lap 1 I'm in 5th, by lap 2 in 4th and clocked a lap time of 01:59.635. lap 3 was about closing down the gap and can only be down having the balls to blast id down the hill using no brakes and making sure i get those few corners correct before the climb to the finish. I managed to get pass the lead car (Quattro) not long after reaching the bottom of the hill and hit the next fe corners perfect to pull a lead which I needed because heading towards the finsh line that Quattro was shifting big time up there, the gap was big enough just and Prius finshed 1st by 0.152 seconds.....close, next races would be difficult as my lack of power would show more so in race 2 and 3.

Race 2: Riffelsee - the harder of all 3 stages for any underpowered car. The Prius was proving it could handle the downhill sections but lacked the grunt for the uphill drive. Racing Brakes proved to be a good choice as the prius seems heavy under braking and needed the stopping power of the upgrades to slow down enough after the downhill bits. Although the car made it into 3rd, the Quattro and the 205 Evolution obviously did not wish to be in the same shot as the Prius and buggered off early in the race and was not seen again. Fastest lap 01:36.081

Race 3: Dristelen-not the easiest not the hardest but do-able if you can keep the revs high and the speed flowing, not easy when the AI half wits brake so heavily in the corners. Got a bit of a bump from behind from the Corolla Rally car, obviously wanting to add a bit of speed to the Prius what with them both being Toyota's. Got the car to 2nd overall, the Quattro finishing only 0.668 seconds in front. Fastest lap 01:20.027

Afterthoughts and Reccomendations

Well the Quattro made sure with a 2nd a 1st and a 1st the the prius does not have an identity crisis and believe itself to be some Rally car, although being on Sports Hard instead of the Soft tyre and being some 222PP under the allowance grabbing a 1st, 3rd and a 2nd was not a bad outing from the Prius even against the AI who I think tend to dribble a lot when they are inbetween races.
She feels heavy under braking, got an ass that will stick to the floor when flying down those hills but going up hill is a no-no and maybe quicker walking, I'd take her to some shorter tracks with a few twisty bits, it's a car i would say do take for a drive but don't admit it to anyone

Many thanks for reading and hope she turns out to be a good drive for you :)

Left it on stock tyres and got 3 out 3 wins at the National A European Hot Hatch Series, entry was 500PP or less, Sports Hard or less and a normal car, the Corsa is well under although not sure on the normal :boggled:
fastest lap at London was a 01:08.768.

Additional Information: @tkc_cz took the time to build a little app to set your gearing (here), so this a second car set up using this little app, anyone starting out in tuning may want to give it a little go.

pontiac_firebird_trans_am_6_6_1978-40862.jpg

Built this up while on it's stock tyres of Comfort Soft, chose this as I wanted to run something different at the Midnight Masters which is 450PP/Sports Soft, nice choice of tracks as the car would need to cope with the twistysection and home run at Mount Panaroma, the uphill climb and changes of elevation while going back down at Matterhorn, even Willow Springs the final race in the Midnight Masters will show up any understeer problems. Did not realise someone from the tuning section had already done two versions of this car.

Reason for downgrading was to run at the Schwarzwald League, I left tyres on stock (SH) while tuning. Feel free to upgrade the tyres, I tend to tune on fairly poor tyres, you can make a build on better tyres and all seems ok, stick worse tyres on and you may find things don't feel right. So for the above car SH is what was on the car while tuned and not worth going to comforts but put on some Sports Soft and car should stick even better

Used this to take wins in all races of the International A GT World Championship. Mount panorama being the hardest race, got to make use of the twisty section and the Junior's grip levels as you get well and truley spanked on any decent straights.
Think Panoram was 2.01's, Silverstone 1.55's and Spa was 2.14's, will add Laguna and Nurburgring times when I watch the replays.

Hope you enjoy it.

Additional Notes - Tuned this at Super Apricot Hill 20-Minute Challenge. Racing Hards means pit at end of lap 8 of the 15 lap race. Use Racing Hard for both stints and top up with about 38-39 litres of fuel, you should just run dry before the finish but possibly have a good 20-30+ second lead which means your out of fuel when you cross the finish line and will pick up "By The Skin Of Your Teeth" Trophy, obviously adjust fuel if not in need of this Trophy.
Tested online so made a couple of new adjustments.

I think the GT-R Nismo GT3 15th Anniversary Edition '13 is really close to perfect bone stock but thought I would give you tune a shot. I was amazed that you could improve on perfection. The responsiveness of the throttle, brake and steering make this thing a fun to drive just as it should be. A lot of fast or higher horse powered F/R cars can be a chore to drive especially when your on a challenging track with a lot of hills and sharp corners but this car was an absolute joy to drive on the Matterhorn tracks. I thank you and can't wait to try a few more of your tunes. On the off chance that you take requests I would love to see what you would do with a mid to high range Viper ACR. Thanks again .

A Pugs Life.....

The following is about one man and his Pug, from dealer to well deserved place in his garage.
As you read this you might to the same thing yourself in the same car or maybe in something different, you may like me enjoy the journey and the experience.
My task was to purchase a cheap car, build it with parts to a certain PP but do it so I would not need any tuning knowledge, I decided on the cheapest car in the European section.

The car was a Blue Peugeot 106 Rallye '03 - cost Cr, 12,630, PP348 - 101BHP - 890kg

Now to build the car up to the desired PP, in this case I chose 400PP as the starting point(I prefer to run a little low to the competition, means I cannot sit back and cruise round to an easy win). Also all tuning parts at the beginning was suppose to be non-adjustable apart from what came with the car (brakes, power and ballast guages) - and as cheap as possible.

The Build

part - cost - running total - PP/BHP/kg

Oil change - 250 - 12,880 - 354/106/890
Sports Hard Tyres - 6,500 - 19,380 - No change
Racing Suspension Soft - 3,200 - 22,580 - no change
ECU- 1,500 - 24,080 - 362/114/890
Sports Cat. - 1,000 - 25,080 - 368/120/890
Sports Exhaust - 1,200 - 26,280 - 373/125/890
Low Turbo - 7,000 - 33,280 - 396/144/890
Manifold - 3,000 - 36,280 - 401/150/890
Ballast of 4kg @-50% to put the car now at 400PP - 150BHP - 894kg

All that including the car and still chnage from 40K credits, now the task was to race it and make back out money plus more if we could without running the same event over and over.

The good and the bad about the 106

Good: small, light and agile, nimble enough to move the car around easily in tight spots even under braking. Brake late to make up some positions if needed and accelerate quickly out of the corners.

Bad: Long straights and lack of top end grunt will put pressure on us.

Couple of things first, the oil would need a change at about 120 miles as we would start to loose a couple of BHP.
I drive like I always try to drive - clean and fair, yes even for the half wits called AI, two wheels on track means no corner cutting, no using the AI/barriers to help me get round those corners quicker and no blocking, its about you and your racing ability.

We start off with the Novice events and as the pace is fairly slow, it's time to adjust to our car and figure out how late we can brake. Also get use to finding the draft on the straights, going to come in handy later. If you are running with the racing line you will hopefully see the 106 needs nowhere near as much braking as the red lines are telling you and sometime a lift off is enough. Use the 1st lap as a feeler to what the car can do.

Information will be track, prize for 1st and running total, figures in brackets where listed are PP/BHP of 2nd place.

Novice

Sunday Cup - 430PP/SH
High Speed Ring - 4,020 - (353/128) - (-)32,260
Autumn Ring Mini - 4,120 - (unknown) - (-)28,140

Brands Hatch - 4,410 - (375/80) - (-)23,730
Grand Valley - 4,580 - (371/142) - (-)19,150
Willow Springs - 4,660 - (unknown) - (-)14,490
Novice Championship 450PP/SH
Brands Hatch - 4,250 - (371/142) - (-)10,240
Autumn Ring - 4,490 - (371/142) - (-)5,750
Brands Hatch - 4,520 - (371/142) - (-)1,123
Championship bonus - 5,000 - (+)3,770

At this point the 106 is making profit for us. We should be making use of the draft and have come to realise, follwing PD's red braking points will not help us get those wins we would like.
As we progress we now see that even in other cars draft they have the power to pull away so we really need to get to grips with those corners and the late braking, carry as much speed as you dare through the corner making use of all the track if needed and if those faster cars are making a pass on us, fall in behind as soon as you can to draft them.

Combining what we know is really put to the test at Tokyo, they have far faster speed down the straights which is a killer for the pug, drafting and corner entry/exits meant I scraped a win by 0.121 seconds, roles reversed as the Skyline GTR V Spec was using my draft to close down the gap at the finish line.
If you don't manage those wins, fear not - once we have taken the Pug as far as we can on this build, we will dip into the profit to try and coax more speed/grip ot of the little car.

National A

I decided to do the first event, you have really got to be clued into the 106 for this event as the 106 is on the wrong tyres for the event, way off the PP and seriously underpowered - but my gawd if you get it right it's a blast. (Sure there's plenty will find it a doddle)
Running against more powerful cars now means we have to make use of the screen information regarding where we are compard to others and a must is rear view mirror as coming down at Panorama those cars carry serious speed compared to the 106 and the AI seems to be unaware of our presence on track and will gladly punt you off and not just a little tap as well, again make use of the drafts on those straights and let the 106 show the way in the twistier sections.

500PP Clubman Cup - 600PP/SS

Mt Panorama - 11,550 - (437/??) +189,500
Matterhorn - 11,640 - (449/276) +201,140
Willow Springs -12,170 -(441/261) +213,310
Turbo Sports Series - 550PP/SS
Deep Forest - 13,830 - (466/276) +227,140

Brands Hatch - 13,720 - (403/181) +283,090
Spa - 14,170 - (440/261) +297,260

Part 2

Some of those last races while showing the 106 was still capable of getting the win, it was becoming more noticeable about the lack of power for those longer straights. So considering we was now in profit by 297,260 Cr our hand is about to go into the kitty to purchase some much needed and well deserved upgrades.

Intake - 4,300 - 292,960 - 410/160/894
Engine Stage 2 - 18,000 - 274,960 - 438/198/894
High Turbo - 20,500 - 254,460 - 459/242/894
Racing Exhaust - 9,500 -244,950 - 480/253/894
Stage 1 Weight reduction - 4,500 - 240,460 - 474/242/831
May as well ofload the 4kg ballast - 481PP 253BHP 827kg

So we are still a light car meaning good for the late braking and tight turns but now we are carrying more power which on the plus helps us a little down the straights but may hinder us if we gas to much on corner exit. the car could do with some new shoes but the time for tyres is not just yet as there's still events waiting for us to enter on what we already have on the car.

National A

Looking at the grid for this event it's packed with lots of power but at the cost of weight, meaning I'm still going to grab those asses for the draft but make sure I out do them on the brakes/corners. Don't get to close to them in the corners, their weight will slow them big time, so leave yourself an out as you don't want to loose too much time because your stuck behind them.
GT National Championship 500PP/SH
Silverstone - 14,670 - (483/319) +255,130
Apricot Hill - 14,880 - (500/443) +270010
Mt Panorama - 14,650 - (500/443) +284,660
Monza - 14,370 - (483/319) +299,030
Brands Hatch - 14,450 - (500/443) +313,480
Championship bonus 20,000 - 333,480

One thing I noticed was if i could get my lighter car on the inside of the AI at corner entry, i kept my line without leaning but because of their excess weight, they have to come off the power a lot more because they cannot make a tight turn.

Pit stop and another oil change - 250 -333,230

International B

10-Minute races - 530PP/SH
Brands Hatch - 23,180 - (488/190) +356,410
Roma - 23,660 - (497/374) +380,070
Willow Springs - 24,400 - (490/355) +404,470

Now was the time to put some more rubber on the car.

Sports Soft - 9,000 - 395470

International B

Tour of Europe - 540PP/SS
Brands Hatch - 28,700 - (497/374) +424,170
Spa - 29,230 - (488/414) +453,400
Ascari - 31,200 - (497/374) +484,600

This was back to it's best for the 106, those tyres had breathed new life into the car and into me. We was now back to late braking, fast cornering with some nice acceleration out of the corners. Race 1 we finished 35 seconds ahead and Race 2 the 106 managed a 2.37.9 round Spa.

National A

Gornergrat League - 600PP/SS
Matterhorn - 12,240 - (540/449) +496,840
Matterhorn - 12,580 - (543/469) +509,420
Matterhorn - 12,980 - (539/?) +522,400

The car felt like it was made for the Matterhorn, 2nd gear maybe a little to short and a slight bogging down when changing to 3rd on any of the steeper climbs, but it was a blast throwing it aound those corners.
Plus the 106 has now made us over 0.5 million credits.

International B

Tuned Car Festival - 650PP/SS
Apricot - 19,200 - (558/591) +541,600
Daytona - 19,810 - (449/271) +561,410
Cape Ring - 19,840 - (449/271) +581,250

i was apprehensive about this event, Daytona could cause a problem due to our lowish top speed 155MPH, the key was very late breaking for the chicane on the banking, utilise the 106's nimbleness and acceleration through there, luckily last lap because of the gap you can pull out I didn't have to panic when I was redlining just before the start/finish line due to the lead i had pulled out.

May need to check your Oil if your BHP had gone down or it could have just been me forgetting to do it last time. Luckily when doing the oil change also noticed that the body rigidity needed sorting so 6,250 for the both, profit now at 575,000.

Pretty much coming to the end of what's available to the Peugeot 106 on these Sport Soft tyres, found 2 races yet to do so off we go

Super

Willow 20 Mile Challenge - 650/SS
Willow -78,070 - (581/591) +653,070
I went with the SS tyre and the 106 needed no pit stop for fuel, tyes were pretty much shot on the front when I finished, maybe a 2 or 1. Lead was enough due to the super cars having to pit so was able to calm the last lap down a bit, didn't feel like catching the corner off the track and ending up in the middle of nowhere. Might have a go at this using the SH see if they last better but see how much your lap times are down and if there's enough of a gap there on the last lap to take the win.

Ascari Race Resort 10 Lap Challenge - 650/SS
Ascari - 133,130 - (629/788) +786,200
Ran with the SS tyre here as obvious would need to pit, not for fuel for a change of tyres, wasn't sure SH would last the 10 laps. The second place car besides having to take on fuel when he pitted at the end of lap 5 like myself was just too overpowered for the track, sure there's some decent straights but i think overall the track is suited to a more balanced or grip rather than power set up. Running the car was entertaining in those opening laps was battling with some of the flashier motors, the kind you see in the players car park at the football(soccer) grounds.

Well who would have thought the peugeot 106 Rallye could earn us 786,200 credits (maybe more if there's other bonus' on your first time through it). Update 1.02 means higher payouts for career mode of about 40-50%, so the 106 is earning you about 1.3-1.5million estimate.
I'd reccommend people to at least build the car just to see how it drives. The standard gearbox was well up to the task of taking us through those events showing us we did not need to spend 20K on an adjustable box.
In the first phase of the build i'd say National A Matterhorn race 1 shows you how good that car is at that track, throwing it down those hills before hitting the brakes, trying to get the back to wobble a little so you can throw it through the corner is one driving experience everyone needs to have.
I think in the second phase of the build the the likes of Spa/Mt Panorama can you show you even though underpowered for those long straights there's more than enough to cope with the twistier/tighter sections to not just make up but to pass any time lost on those straights.

We took the cheapest car Europe had to offer the Peugeot 106 Rallye, we built it up with non adjustable tuning parts, we kicked some serious butt along the way and pocketed a cool 786,200 credits profit, not bad from the little french Hot Hatch

From me and my 106 thanks for reading

The END

Maybe........

Made this for the International B Tour of Europe, way to quick for that event so you might want to de-tune the car or be bored running the event way out front.

You may look at the tune and be thinking WTF!! The Matterhorn took me in this direction while building it and I had every intention of not posting this because of how it looks. Once happy with the tune I ran 1 lap and clocked a 01:42.237 which is 18th on the leaderboard while writing this post :)

Notes - Alternative build to what's going round. Once built ran some laps and clocked a 2.8. Today was about slight tweak to gearing and rim size, happy with what's here and clocked a 01:02.664 (top 50) - change gear about 6500 revs, not a hot lapper so I only run 1-2 laps at a time and when I get an ok time...I'm done with it.

Yes, it's correct, if you watch the top drivers you will see they have similar ride height.

Spent some time tuning this for the Seasonal Event Time Trial, tweaking, tweaking and more tweaking, I did numerous laps as I figured out what needed changing etc, once I was happy with it I ran 1 lap and clocked a 0:56.727 (I don't like doing lap after lap in search of that perfect one but I'm sure there's nearly .200 still for me to take off that) which got me about 43rd on the leaderboard. You may notice the suspension is quite different from the one's floating around, if you find the time to have a go in this tune and you manage to better your time, feedback is much appreciated, as a new one to the tuning in GT6 I'm probably under-used and often over-looked so big thank's if you post up,

cheers Bee9.

I am a pretty average driver eg I have golded all the seasonals but some have taken many many attempts. I did manage to gold the Mito seasonal without adjusting the default settings but was having trouble replicating the effort. Tried your tune and on the first lap took 1.15 seconds off my previous best without really trying that hard.

I don't know much about tuning, but the anecdotal evidence is that it worked for me, thanks.

Cheers

600PP / 741BHP...

...Additional Notes - Cannot remember if I did an oil change first and as the car is not available in the dealership cannot compare, so put the upgrades on and then compare PP/BHP if same - no oil change, if to low - do the oil change, would appreciate anyone letting me know the result, many thanks.

I have changed my oil, and have applied the above settings. Mine is 607 PP / 779 HP. So, I suspect that yours hasn't had its oil changed.

Anyway, thanks for the tune. I'm about to give it a shot on the 15th Anniv. Round 3 Seasonal.

Cheers for that, edited the post to show no oil change needed.

I used the Viper to Gold that Seasonal, just threw on the tyres and engine upgrades and got my Gold and Credit bonus :)
