50th Anniversary: Jim Clark Special

Clark Trivia: Not only was Clark able to make his tyres last for as many as four races, twice as long as some other drivers would manage, but the Lotus engineers could also tell which of several random race-used gearboxes belonged to Clark just by the lack of wear and strain on them.

The picture from Indy is not from 1965, I don't believe they had SAFER barriers back then. ;)

Dome F105

Engine: 3.0L Mugen-Honda V10

The unraced Dome F105 was a still-born project which, like DAMS' effort around a similar time, actually did have a car to show for it even if the car itself was not very competitive.

Pencilled in for an entry to the 1997 season the Dome F105 began as a project in 1995 and was constructed in March 1996. Testing was limited due to a lack of funding and the car, the sole construction of its type, only managed 800 miles around Japanese circuits. Not only was there reluctance from Honda, an official Dome partner, to further invest in the project but also from Goodyear; Dome did secure Goodyear tyres for the F105 but there was a suspicion from the United States manufacturer that the Dome F105 was a ruse on behalf of Japan's Bridgestone corporation to get valuable information on Goodyear ahead of Bridgestone's planned 1997 entry.

Much like how DAMS declined to submit an entry to the 1996 Formula One season, DOME declined to submit an entry to the 1997 Formula One season citing funding issues and the forthcoming change in regulations which would be rendering the DOME obsolete.

For what it's worth, the F105 set a fastest time of 1:46.270 around Suzuka, more than 7 seconds slower than the Williams FW18's pole position time of 1:38.909 and 0.3 seconds off the 107% time.

The car still exists and is located in a vault underneath DOME's windtunnel facility.

For the classic car lovers:

@Liquid thanks for pointing me to the thread for (classic car) videos. But to be honest I think the above one deserves a better place then the topic "random videos/things" ;) If I pollute this thread I will replace this post with a classic car picture
