We call people who join our lobbies in PURE etc "Randoms" because they aren't part of the series etc. We use public lobbies for our races so randoms appear often
.
Thought you were doing these in public lobbies since they were shuffle races..
?
Oh yeah, it's pub lobby.
And we do get random strangers joining... though it seems like many of "the randoms" often then become "regulars".
A lot of the people I shuffle with I did not meet here on GTP. Though many have GTP accts.
Apparently I get talked about in other shuffle rooms. So there's definitely a pub lobby "shuffle circuit" that has many of the same people, particularly in certain time slots.
My husband was shuffle racing last week, and called me to look at the screen because my name was being mentioned. The host recommended my shuffle lobbies to the other racers. The interesting thing about that was the guy who was recommending me - I don't think I've EVER raced with him. (Unless he has an alternate psn name maybe...)
My strategy for keeping the room in order is to make the same announcement before every race, insisting that people report dirty driving always.
And that usually sends the yahoos skedaddling out, and any turkeys who wind up racing, get reported pretty quickly.
I'm pretty easy going when it comes to mere inexperience, or some sloppiness, if people observe track etiquette. But I'm absolutely ruthless about kicking people who cause a disruption.
I kicked someone this morning for
"bad attitude Debbie Downer type complaining".
It was sad because the guy was good. He wasn't the most tidy driver but he wasn't dirty just aggressive. But on the weekends, there's a real mix of drivers racing, so I tend to keep the ratio set at 3 if the room's really mixed... or else the same people keep winning and people get bored... and that seems to precipitate IRRATIONAL & just plain wrong ideas about how to fix the problem - such as "raise the pp" or "make the races shorter". (As if making races shorter or making all the cars faster will somehow make slower drivers faster...
Trust me, I AM a slower driver... and faster cars & higher PP does nothing to help me win races!
)
Well the guy got all upset every other race... every time he won a race and then was given kind of a crappy car, he'd just give up & quit the next race when he realized he couldn't
win it. Which meant the next race he'd get a good car again, and then win or nearly win.
Then the next race he'd get a crappy car
again, and whine about that. Well after I saw this happen 3 or 4 times, I told him to stop complaining & stop quitting races. He got all hysterical then & continued to complain about his car (which he had a
better car than me in the race, and when he quit, I was behind him!!!)
I don't expect people to press on if they have some egregious misfortune in a race, wind up way out behind with no hope and there's more than half the race to go. By all means sit the remainder of the race out and go get yourself a soda.
But I am considering adding to the "prohibited" list, people who give up repeatedly
every other race.
Oh the humanity!
