Clean Lo PP Shuffle club (impromptu casual shuffle racing) *VCRC/MCRC*

This is a video from shuffle the other day...
Probably best to just shut penalties off for ovals. *sigh*

Stupid ghosting trick...

Notice how when the car un-ghosts... it unsettles the other cars around it somehow. One wonders how the ghost can draft a slipstream, but not be involved in the air around the other cars otherwise.
Flawed penalty system.
I wish they had a way to set penalties to ON, but ghosting to OFF. :grumpy:
Ironically, PD did the opposite in updating. :ouch: :boggled: Made ghosting available without penalties!

I have experienced the above situation previously in a GT5P online race. I ghosted and drove right through quite a few cars. It is definitely a weird situation, but works out extremely well usually for the ghosted car. Also, why this would tend to happen is because when racing on a road course the ghosting would happen to avoid collisions. When racing on an oval the game still considers bump drafting a collision, so when a car is approaching another one too quickly, then the approaching car will be ghosted to avoid "collision".

Yeah in this case, miata_1 said it looked like the lateral g-force registering right before the ghosting probably triggered the ghosting.
I've never gotten a penalty from bump drafting, only like really hard contact. But we play with penalties on weak. I think with penalty on strong you'd be ghosting and getting penalties the whole time on an oval. (But penalties on strong is very flawed in general of course.)

Is there any downside to turning penalties to off on ovals? It's not like shorting the track is going to be a big problem. If someone did that, it would be pretty darn obvious & they'd get kicked. ha ha ha
I think also it would prevent the occasional penalty you get for scraping the wall. I don't know why that penalizes you - what's the big deal with that??

Yea I think the in game penalities are crap anyway, but on ovals they are completely pointless. I think whats nice about oval racing is that even if there are really good road course guys in the field, they are not garunteed a win, because of the competitiveness of the entire field. I know the two series I run in, the Vintage Nascar Series and GASS Series, mainly run ovals and I have not seen any more competitive racing like I have seen over there. Those two series have provided some of the best racing ever for me and I hope it continues to stay that way.

Yeah well I love oval racing.
One guy went off on a fit the other day in lo pp shuffle when we went to the oval and I put everyone in the Brera.

But most people like a variety in shuffle.

I alternate between track vote, custom courses, & throw in some ovals.
Usually I do the recommended garage 1-make for ovals. I found that the Brera is a good choice for the lo pp 1-make on ovals, because it's 4wd & pretty stable, so it helps those who are not experienced on ovals because it's not likely to spin out, and are more likely to enjoy it and not complain.

Oh, and one thing I laughed about is that the one guy the other day made a comment like that to be good at ovals, you need a wheel rig. I think it's the exact opposite... I think ovals seem to level the playing field between wheel vs. controller drivers.

Good to have you Dano20. 👍

I got disconnected (black screen) after an awesome race @ Nurb24hrs in the lovely 67 Toyota 2000GT. :) But I had to go anyway at that time.

It all starts to make sense now...

I'm pretty sure it was in this room where I first heard mention of the GTP OLR Rules a few weeks back, driving under my regular PSN account barma16.

Watermelon, you've got a lot to answer for... I googled GTP OLR, found this place, and for the first time since my GPL days (15 years ago!) I'm getting back into it. Now I've got some fanatec gear and I'm desperately trying to get back to being nearly competent with it so that I can submit a qualifier. I thought I'd kicked the habit ;)

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks! You host a great room. I'll be back once I've learned to drive again...

Thanks Watermelon, enjoyed that today. Even felt like I was starting to get the hang of the wheel :)

I know sometimes people ask why I don't have winners picking things and things like that. And I only use track voting about 1/2 to 2/3 of the time.
I do sometimes field suggestions, if they're things we do anyway. Like if someone calls for a spec race, and we hadn't had one yet, I might go along with that idea. Or if I see that several people have voted for Nurb a few times but we haven't gone there at all, I might choose Nurb, because after all, it's popular. Or if people are asking for longer races or shorter, I might increase or decrease the laps/race-time to suit the mood of the room.
But otherwise I'm pretty stringent. And that's because from experience, I've found formulas that work.
For example, if I do a track vote, I will adjust the PP base to what I have found to be appropriate & fun for the particular track. (For example, 380 if we wind up at Sarthe, or 300 if we wind up at Cote Dazure.)
I almost never bend to pestering to "raise the pp". Because there's always going to be someone who says that... and usually there's 2-3 other people who pipe up & say "the pp is good!"... Because most people join the room BECAUSE it says "lo pp".

I just saw this in another thread, that really hits upon several points that are very important, & why, for the host to really run a tight ship on the parameters for racing...

Another thing I'd recommend is not setting things up based on what people want in the Lounge. To coin a phrase, "that way lies madness". Running a lobby is not a democracy it's a dictatorship. You should set the room up in the way that you prefer and leads to the best racing. I don't think I've ever seen a successful, long term, online host, that took votes on anything other than track selection. The more you open it up to opinion, the more opinions you're going to get and inevitably some people will have hurt feelings or not get what they want, because 4 people wanted RS tires and 3 wanted CS tires.

Exactly that. Too many times you might take the time to join a room. And then you have one fantastic race. And then the host just changes the track to Cote Dazure, raises the PP to 500, turns on aids & boost... :scared:
Then most people leave, and you have to go looking for a new room. :grumpy:
We often joke that when there's a sudden influx of joins, that some other shuffle lobby must've just gone to the dogs.

I open the room, and you can be sure for as long as I'm hosting (and often even after another host takes over - because I try to leave the room in good hands), that you're going to get consistent parameters, and not have to spend most of your allotted racing time lobby hunting.
