Further explanation of the theme, in the words of by our Week 14 Winner sixtoes:

Black and white photography requires a reliance on purer composition techniques, and
emphasizes contrast and texture over other elements. Let's see what you can do with a big
tool - color - taken out of your toolbox. Whether you choose a 'retro' black and white film
look, or use Photoshop to make a cutting-edge abstract masterpiece, the challenge
before you is the same - B&W only.

CARS: Any
LOCATIONS: Any
PHOTO TRAVEL: Yes
UNIQUE RESTRICTIONS: B/W only

  • No full-size images posted in thread; your entry will be ignored.
[*]One entry per user. It must be your own work, and never previously used in a comp.
[*]Mark your FINAL ENTRY clearly, with red text.
[*]You may change your entry once. Do it clearly; edit out your previous entry, and
either post the new one in a new reply, or in place of the original.
[*]When submitting, use either a thumbnail or a preview image, linked to the full-sizer.
[*]Preview images can not exceed 500 pixels in either direction.
[*]A preview image must be representative of the full-size image. Do not add effects to it.
[*]Winner gets to choose the following week's theme, as well as the Top 20. Every fourth
week, the poll will be H2H style: entries must choose a "team", and the best from each
poll faces off in a final 48 hour poll.
[*]Winners cannot enter in their own theme!

I was wondering when a black and white theme was going to come up, really looking forward to this one 👍

Final entry

I had a hard time going through all of my B/W shots. They all looked good to me. :P

TVR&Ferrari_Fan: Setting the bar high already, I see. 👍

xAmilli0n: When I was trying to come up with a theme, I was surprised that this hadn't already been done. I'm disappointed that I won't be able to compete, as I love great B&W photography, but I'm really excited to be able to judge the images. :)

Rossticles: I hope so - this isn't the PMC competition, after all! :D

aidan8500: Interesting use of B&W with a shallow DoF; nice job with the reflections. I get the feeling I'm going to have a hard time judging at the end of all this.

Benmastaw00t: You're quite welcome - I'm sure you'll come up with something great!

akuyuku: If all your B&W images look this good, no wonder you had a hard time. 👍 This is one example where an over-exposed sky really works well.

All: I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone can put together for this contest, and - at the rate we're going - I am certain that some very good shots will end up being left out of the poll, when all is said and done. Good luck, all!

Couple of questions... Do we have to use the black and white filter? Can we use Extreme B&W? Can we use a different filter (such as "warm") then make the picture B&W in Photoshop?

As this a 2.0 competition, you do not have to use the Monochrome or Extreme Monochrome in-game filters - though, of course, you're certainly welcome to do so. You'll have far more control over your black-and-white conversion if you bring the image over into Photoshop (or Lightroom, even) and convert it there.

I'm on this theme like a rash. Can't wait to see some of people's shots.

@ Sixtoes- you could post an image up, it's would be nice to see what you would have come up with for this theme.

FINAL ENTRY

Click image to make it look 10x better

Edited from a shot I created a few weeks ago. I loved it for the reflections in the headlight and the big chunky chrome Lexus badge that stands out embedded into the matt black body.

Good luck to everyone this week 👍

One of the first pics I took in Photomode, but still like it a lot. There is some serene atmosphere about it, but on the other hand there is this untamed beast standing in the ruins of the cathedral. A nice contradiction.

I noticed the word 'abstract', exactly how 'abstract' are we allowed to get?

Reading through the rules I can't say my idea goes against any of the 'may nots' but also isn't explicitly listed in the 'may dos', should I just post it (when I've made it) and hope for the best? and change if need be?

I had no choice, but to bring out another big gun. And for one reason, I am still looking for my first PMC 2.0 win.
