I wasn't implying anything was wrong (though the text looks slanted at the bottom because of the guard rail). I thought the tag plate was a good show of attention to detail. I'd have played with the cloud cover (that is the dead giveaway). But outside of that, I don't see anything I would change were it my piece.

I did some burning and dodging on some of the clouds. I dunno, I just can't seem to figure out what's wrong.

Is it just me, or does GT5 use some pretty low-resolution textures for the sky on some of the tracks, particularly the Nürburgring?

It's kind of like watching really rich 4th graders sling "your mom" jokes.

It's a great sideshow - completely pointless, but entertaining all the same.

I think you'll need to cut the sky, make it a new layer and do some adjusting of the hue and saturation... .try that.

Yeah, the environment textures and models leave something to be desired. But, in GT4 the complaint was that too much was dedicated to the environment and not enough to the cars so I think they swung from one end to the other on that one. I'm not going to pretend that I see their big picture either though, I mean, photomode isn't the reason any of us BOUGHT the game to begin with. It's just a side perk. I think in 15 years when they release GT6, they'll add a bit more focus to the photomode, perhaps allow video editing and I hope and pray that they'll adopt livery customization on all cars (not this - you can only RM 7 cars BS they've got now). Still... it's an ambitious game that struck a good balance with what it needed and what it wanted to do (all things considered)

Ok so here's my entry. Fairly simple in its design but I wanted it to look more authentic brand-wise.

Axis power UNITE!

last entry look like wallpaper rather than advert. Now this. I don't know whether it's a magazine page or an advert. I just do it. lol

I know i'm being a dick by saying this, But the Prius ad is bassicaly a copy of the Emission ad with the sheep from India or something. Everyone else used GT5 for most of it, but that is mostly Toyota's actual ad, including the pixel bleed on the red and the smushed text.

Actually, that's not a dick thing to say if it true, it's a dick thing to plagiarize material and concepts.

Let me see... ah... here

Yeah, the Prius ad here now seems unable to stand apart or fit in a series of existing legit ads when placed next to the original campaign. Attempting to mimic style and message can be pretty risky like that...IMO

I can't say that it's horrible or unwarranted, but it doesn't personally strike me as something meritorious compared to the BMW, ZR1, or VW ads that pull off the appropriate style and image while also maintaining a sense of independence from the original ads. I don't know... it's a fun competition and ultimately whether you or I think it's "cheap" doesn't really matter. We have to expect that in a setting such as this, someone will do it and some will do it well and some wont... that's the fun of it.

So, harsh and without remorse - sure... but it's also a valid observation, I'd say.

Wow hold on guys.

I have to say that I have mixed feelings about this.
First of all, I am sad about all this. Sad because I obviously can't use that picture anymore althought I was pretty satisfied with it. I need to make things clear, I didn't know that an actual ad with that same concept already existed and I'm sorry if anyone thought I was stealing someone's idea. So obviously, I'll change my entry.

Though I'm also pretty satisfied to see that an actual person had that same idea for an official ad. Perhaps I should consider a reconversion :D

Again, sorry for all the fuss, I'll edit my entry.

Actually, I think there is nothing wrong with that entry. The concept is not the same imo, and the design is simple generic. Maybe it was copying, but I'd prefer to think of it as drawing inspiration. Unless Rev wants to put in his 2 cents, it has my approval. Unless some one is a marketing major, I don't expect completely original concepts.

Hmm tricky one, It's a fine line to straddle going for something that is directly in line with a brands marketing style.

And although a few of us including me have taken the similar styling approach of whatever brand car we've chosen, I feel like together with the concept and photo's being unique makes them standalone well enough.

In this particular case I was unaware of the Prius ad myself, so did not have an issue with the entry but after seeing the existing ad it does feel quite coincidental that the ad you've put forth not only is of similar concept but also of almost uncanny similar style.

Considering I haven't seen a set styling like this across many Toyota ads it makes we wonder how you ended up with something so close considering you claim you were unaware of such an ad.

I think having the same concept could have been forgivable had the style of the ad been different in apporach but as it stands it just seems awfully circumstantial. So i'm a bit indifferent about this one. But I'd probably allow it.

Hi guys, excellent work so far - I've been thoroughly impressed (and amused) by the entries I've seen.

I've just finished my own entry, but before I put it up I have one quick question - is it mandatory that I use an imagehost to host my images? I see in the rules that it is recommended, but I have never seen anyone else using anything other than Flickr, ImageShack or Photobucket. The reason I ask is that I've been having a lot of problems uploading my images to Photobucket recently, and I have had my own hosting set up for years now. I think it would probably be more convenient to host my entries on my own site. I figure if my host experiences any technical difficulties the only person who loses out is me ...

I might give Flickr a go now, but I'm still curious to know what you guys think anyway.

Well I don't see any issue with that, like you said if your host runs into any difficulties then its only you who loses out.

Unless someone else has a reason I'm not aware of you should be absolutely fine hosting it on your own site.

Yeah cheers, I just gave Flickr a go and it's doing exactly the same thing as Photobucket - it won't let me maintain the full size of the image and also goes a little overboard with the JPG compression. Usually that wouldn't bother me but I've got a reasonable amount of small text on there so it ends up looking pretty poor.

Call me fussy but I think I'll just go ahead with my own hosting!

Final Entry:

Interesting concept, has an immediate obviousness which is good in advertising.

Hey, I wasn't calling for you to change it, I was just noting the similarities. Now that you say you had no idea I have several questions regarding placement, font choice in the lower right, and a few other things that - like others - have pointed out, are strangely similar for being unaware. However, I can see it as inspiration as well... I'm not a judge or a mod - just some guy like anyone else. If the judges allow it, great - done issue - though that might open doors later for people to simply recreate actual ads with slight differences rather than all new ads.

I gave my opinion, but don't mean to discourage you from participation or adaptive styles, but try to see it from the opposite end - can you say that side by side raised eyebrows aren't warranted?

Anyway... thats just my personal input - no hard feelings intended mate.

I'm happy to let the Prius ad slide - I haven't any issue with what he's done.

@ Ciniculusxoneo - Feel free to use your own hosting! The image hosts in the first posts are just a suggestion. :) Nice ad btw!

Wow that's really nice, may I ask is that purely filter work or custom airbrushed?

In any case very well laid out and I really like the red you made the car. 👍

Glad you like it. I'm not too good with filters, so I airbrushed and blended and paint brushed. I did use diffuse glow though, I think that's a filter.

and I just realised Roma is Italian and aout is french for august.

I understand your opinion and even agrees with it. Still, I'm gonna change my entry because it seems like the right thing to do.
About the similarities in style, it's quite simple really. I used the same style as the actual Toyota ads (used for almost every Toyota car), like the other guys used the same style for their VW and BMW ads. The point is to make an ad so it's just obvious to make it look like a real one. Now, my entry was just too close to the real deal so I'll change it, and it's completely normal IMO, even if the judges see no issues with it, I don't wanna take the risk of being accused of cheating. And I already have another idea anyway, but not as funny ;)

Awesome work Minimarco - looks brilliant! Agosto is the Italian translation you were searching for :P

Here's my entry. And Do not knock it cause of the low quality picture of Hiromu Naruse, I looked over everywhere for a picture and that was the best I could find. As some know, Hiromu was Toyota's top test driver and gave us alot of the Legendary Toyotas and Lexus' we have today. He died this past June in the Nurburgring LF-A just outside of Nurburgring. I felt this was kinda fitting entry/Memorial.
FINAL ENTRY

Great work.
Lets not forget what he has done.

Right, well then that really is awesome. I'm pretty sure I couldn't airbrush like that so that's a real advantage to have that ability. Again it looks great. Well done.

Ah well, see I have not seen a series of ads in that style myself, just the Prius one. So if you have seen a whole series in that style then it makes more sense and is totally understandble that you stlyed it as such. I just personally hadn't seen a set of Toyota ads in that style.
