I really don't understand why the RS6 and the 500 don't have more votes. The compositions and colours are perfect!

As I predicted people seem to just be voting for the clearest looking car despite the fact its too close to the edge of the image, the center is totally off weighted, the background is stupidly distracting and the roof line meets the top of the mountains which guides your eyes off the image completely.

I think the shot, which is winning is bland.

What could be worked on:

Composure
Depth of Field

I dont realy like most of the photo's in this weeks competition. I really miss my own picture. Altough it is a standard car my personal opinion is that it is way better then some of the pics above.

@ Wits: If the car was in focus, then the shot would of had a better chance of making it.

I made the Advanced Entry...
but not this one. What ?

What was wrong with this ?

I almost forgot that this was what Comps used to be like...

In other news: We hit 300 viewers in the Photomode section earlier. Hurray for the front page!

Well, I didn't make the cut, and a few of the other entries I was vouching for didn't, but it's been a great experience all the same. This is the first GTPlanet competition I've entered and I'll be sure to make the photomode competition a weekly occurance.

Well done to everyone who got in, and thank you to all the organisers! :)

I understand what you say but not what you mean. Making photo's is not only about focus. It's the total package in a picture that makes it the way it is. Everybody can take a piture on F45 and yes it will be very in focus. But where is the action. Lost. This is not only about my picture offcourse. I see it more often. In the pictures above I miss some nice action shots the most are to static in my opinion that is. As a photographer I like to take pictures and add as less as possible to it in PS. Just like real life.

The PS comment doesn't mean much; this comp is strictly PS-less anyways ;).

I don't think TVR's referring to just the aperture value; you used Panning Mode 1 and it made for a car that's motion blurred. Sometimes that can work in an images favour, sometimes it doesn't. And some shots don't need motion; the Fiat 500 image from Revolution, for example, would just look wrong if there was any motion there. The theme was open to interpretation, and some of us (you and I) went for pictures conveying some motion, but others didn't. Variety! :D

I don't want to have any discussions going on in these nice competitions that you guys arrange. BTW I always use panning mode 3. I think I used F8, panning mode 3 and a shuttertime of 125.

How can that RM Impreza shot be winning, especilly by such a large margin? I get a feeling lots of people misclicked and were meant to vote for the shot above.

Its realistic, hence why the many votes. But I'm sure this is gonna be a runaway win for Malc01...
Sadly I think GT5 kinda ruined the whole jagged edges when you try to take a shot of the car with the dust cloud, just hope that would be patched soon... :indiff:

Some of these shots I find rather questionable as to their entrance. The RM 1969 Camaro shot, for example, has half the car completely cut off in a very unappealing way.

yeah it's realistic, but it's poorly framed and not that interesting.
Hell both Delta's and the 500 should have more votes than it.

You could call me a sour grape, but I think Moglet's right, they're only voting for the one that shows the most car.

That RM Impreza is large in that picture, fully in the shot, brightly lit, the details (decals, and there are a lot of them) are all clear to see and in focus, and on top of that, it's a rally-spec Impreza! On a rally! It's all right, and yet it's not.

The shot is almost completely devoid of artistic value. Besides what Moglet has pointed out, there's also too much movement for it to be a static shot that everyone can sit back and enjoy the details, yet not enough for it to be a proper action shot. It's just a picture of a white rally car being driven on what looks like a very bland Alaskan landscape.

Oh well, maybe I'm just too much of an artistic grouch. And besides, I got a vote (EDIT: TWO!), so I got what I entered for.

By the way, I voted for the second-to-last picture (RS6), but now, looking back, maybe I should've voted for the Delta. Either way, good pictures, both of them.

It's not entirely odd the picture is out in the lead right now; a lot of people do place importance on the realism of the shot, and less on the artistic aspects some of us nuts do. But what is odd is how far ahead it is. That was... unexpected.

Same with already being over 100 votes, not even 12 hours in!

Maybe I try to defend those poor misguided people who voted for the impreza (me being one of them :) ). Sure the critics of it are right in what they say (well its not totally lacking artistic value, c'mon). And for example the 500 pic (my second choice) is great artistic shor, flavless composition, clean colors, good contrast, things that I almost always vote for. But this time my winner had something else going for it, that is in my opinion the most realistic GT5 shot i have seen so far. So it looks like a typical snap shot so what, this time I chose realism over art because there was so much of it.

Edit: I think the snapshot style actually helps in realism, real shots are not usually perfecrly composed.

Im just stoked i made the cut in my first comp entry yay.

I wouldn't say i cut off HALF the car, i just took it so it was lined up and showed the best part of the car IMO.

There's no doubting that it's realistic atlop, it's certainly striking to see from a videogame, but the theme isn't realism and there are other photos out there with a lot more artistic merit that deserve more votes IMO.

I'm not trying to put down Malc01 in any way but I just cannot see how it's so far in the lead. I also don't get why atlop's entry didn't make it. But then I wasn't choosing the top entries so I'll be quiet now :P

But guys, you do need to remember we're not the only ones visiting these part of the forums here. Ever since Slip posted about the comp on the main page there has been many more visits to this sub-forum compared to before, with most of them being your average GT5 players and such. To them (from my point of view at least) the Impreza would have been the one sticking out from the rest of them just for the realism of the shot.

Also, I just think this weeks entries aren't really that good in my honest opinion. (don't hate me for saying this) I know there are a few that are artistic in a sense (like what Gtuned said) but aren't realistic enough for normal people to notice. I think the 2.0 comp has a more artistic feel while still being realistic, but then again they all used photoshop so... :guilty:

Hope you guys get what I'm saying!

I'm disappointed that my strato's shot didn't make the cut. I can understand why (lets face it, I was aiming for the car to be so snow covered that reading the word "lancia" on the back was something that wasn't easy) but I also thought it fit the theme perfectly.

I am more concerned with how un-rally this week turned out to be. sure, we have a rally car in the lead for votes, but rally is about fast and furious driving in adverse conditions.

I can count on my hand the number of entries that aren't taken with a clear sky, no snow, and very little bad weather. as a matter of fact, there re, to my eyes, 2 entries that are taken in a snowstorm weather setting.

everything else is in this pristine, winterless wonderland. yes, there is snow on the ground. wow.

even some of the best shots don't give me a rally feel. Now yes, I voted for the RS6. it's one damned fine picture. but I can clearly see that it is racing. it's well composed, I get a sense of speed, and it fits. I would've liked to have seen some snow coming down though. honestly.
I originally was going to go for that simply dazzling Evora shot. But then I saw the racing exhaust and it was just like "wtf y0?" :( . without that, the evora was easily the best shot of the comp. I don't know how it's not winning. maybe the exhaust really is that bad? heh.

overall though, I guess I just seem bitter.

To be fair, the theme description mentioned nothing about rallying, just white car on snow. If you interpreted that as meaning rallying than that's fine, but it doesn't mean everyone else will.

Yeah, there weren't much up there that caught my eye. I think it's actually difficult to take an outstanding picture of a white car in the snow, because everything's just, well, white. Plus, a white car is possibly the most difficult to photograph, as it's very easy for it to turn out matte.

Justin: I understand that. but when voting, I see a lack of what I'd look for. my own shot not making it is a disappointment in myself for not bringing something to the table that was what the judge was looking for. I like my shot, I feel it's a good shot that accompllished what i wanted, but that disappointment is my own in not impressing others.
impressing myself is simple enough, I know what i want to see. the competition is about impressing others.

But like I say, when voting, I'm the one that needs to be impressed, the same as any other voter, and few shots really did that this time round. the RS6, the evora, the RX7, the Delta HF integrale, etc, all made me say wow.

the challenge in this theme was making a white car look good on a white background. and IMHO, to make it look good, you've gotta make it look racy.
they are impressive shots.

i guess you interpreted the theme differently. to me WHITE car on SNOW meant i wanted to achieve a pristine look, whereas about 70-80% of the entrants went for "HUGE rooster tails of snow look"

guess thats the point really, the theme is open to interpretation.

I can't understand how some of the best pictures didn't even made the cut:scared: Of course, I had also hoped mine with make the top 30

Still, nice shots though:)

I can't understand why mine has 20 votes  The yellow is horrible!
