Cloth or leather? Automatic or stickshift?

Well, what I really wanted was the Alfa 156 with the Selectronic - but the partner objected on the grounds of reliability and resale, neither of which I was able to counter.

Having subsequently driven the 156, the Liberty/Legacy was a good choice.
 
Cloth and stick.

Leather gets really hot in the summer sun, and doesn't "plant" you as well as cloth. It's also uncomfortable for long trips. It wears out a lot too.

My 323 has Potato bag seats and automatic. :rolleyes:

Hang on - I don't know what happened there (call it brainfade :dizzy: ), for some reason I thought leather referred to the gear lever.

In terms of upholstery - definitely cloth. Better grip, and more durable.

better grip but not more durable .....cloth frays and can easily rip or tear while leather is a very tough material ......that's why they use leather for motorcycle outfits not cloth .....if you've fallen of your motorcycle and are sliding on ashpalt, you would probably appreciate the durability of leather over cloth .......leather lasts for years .....or perhaps i don't know what i'm talking about :(

Leather seems to badly wear, or at least it looks bad when it wears.
My dad's '84 RX-7 GSL-SE had leather, and while it looked cool, I was always sliding around on the seat, and if I wore shorts, I was stuck to the seat. Cloth is better in my opinion.

Cloth/manual. Leather is nice, but too slippery for hard driving. Cloth is lower maintainance...I've never noticed problems with longevity either. Leather (or vinyl, for that matter) cracks and splits if not meticulously cared for. I'm too lazy for that.

Manual - I like the throttle to feel connected to the pedal...autos are too mushy for me. And there's always ENGINE BRAKING!

BTW, vat - leather for shift knob :thumbsup:

I'm not saying that leather makes it impossible to drive hard...just that sliding around in the seat makes concentrating on your driving more difficult. :rolleyes:

Not to mention that the Ferrari is probably heavily bolstered....so there! :P
 
Well, leather's a pain in the bum maintenance wise (the sun's really harsh here, hence the reason all Australian men look ten years older than they are) - I go to the beach, and we have cats (who travel in the car), not a good combination.

A great material in somone else's car...
 
Well, I have leather and an auto.. I would much prefer a manual, but physical limitations keep me from it :( (I designed a way I could drive a stick, but the insurance didn't like it because it didn't have any gaurantees on it :rolleyes: ) That's aight tho, because I have a self-designed kit that will take my auto with a shift kit, valve body recalibration, torque converter beefing and cooler, to as close as I can get to a tiptronic ;) Just give me about $1300 and she'll be bulletproof and ready to go :D . I used to own cloth, always wanted leather. Got leather and love it, although it took about 3 days to get used to. So did the color of my baby, rasberry metallic, which, for all non-MX3 buff's means, a wierd pinky/purply color :P Oh, and my seats are bolstered heavily enough for me to not slide around one bit in the corners. If you slide in your seat because the material isn't cloth, you need more supportive seating/belts for the type of driving you are doing. IMO ;)

PS-the pic is a bit blue,so the color is a lil bit off. and yea, the rubber door guards suck, but what can I do, the paint doesn't quite match underneath-and I can't afford a paint job, yet

its a case of horses for courses for everyday use with jumping in and out daily EG my work vehicle ill take cloth for its durablity but in my Sunday drive car I take leather ( but with full lambs wool seat covers)

Transmisson again depends on the car my work van no way would I have an auto I need the torque but if I drove all day ever day in bumper to bumper city traffic give me an auto but then in a sports or performance car definitley a manual no questions asked but when you drive all day in a work situation changing gears all day at the end of the day its just so nice to sit back and relax and take it easy in an auto

No, that's a Mazda MX-3.

Mason-Why in your sig does it say SE, if your car's a GS? Or did you just put that sticker there?
 
The SE didn't quite make it to the states the way it was suppsed to, go figure! They made the SE originally to somewhat celebrate Mazda's 25th anniversary, and can be noted because of the special logo on Canadian model "SE"s. The logo is found on in the door jamb, on the floormats and on the front fender. Stock equipment includes rasberry metallic paint, (minus some flukes in red or black), black leather, heated seats and a sunroof. Other than those, it is just a normal MX3 GS. Options were ABS and auto. The heated seats and logo didn't make it to the states, but the rest did, along with the limited sales number. On the original sales reciept, it is designated a "GS SE". For anybody who knows MX3's, they know what an SE includes, (unless you get into countries other than CN and the US), so I just say SE out of simplicity. If you go look at my "homepage" and you'll find it called a GS SE, as are the other "SE's" that are within the US.

oh yeah, it's been debated that a rasberry metallic "GS" is an SE in the states but since the limited sales number, limited color, only available year being 93 and included options, (not to mention my sales reciept from 93;) ), made it to the states, I consider it such. As I said, there were a few flukes in red or black that made it off the line, US and CN included. (other countries get all sorts of colors and options with the title SE) I almost got a black one back when my first car got keeled, but it was in GA and I couldn't get a ride..

different aluminum rims. they were also standard equipment on SE's. Normal GS's came with, a kind of pie-looking 15" aluminum wheel, (kinda a 5 spoke), while SE's came with a different looking "5-spoke".
 
Ok, the original GS rims are, I would guess, a sort of six spoke, not five as I said. kinda a funny looking rim but strangely attractive, IMO :) Both SE rims and GS rims look kinda wierd, but for some reason if I look at them together, I can't decide which I'd rather have..

While the 3000 is an awesome piece of machinery, in stock form, it's also a rather large pig, VR4 included. (no offense if anybody has one. also, somthing many people don't know is many smaller, "unkown" cars have forms of 4 wheel steering too, MX3's included) The thing weighs alot and you just can't throw it around like you can a smaller car. Personally I wouldn't really want a 3000GT, just not my style.
