The open world thing, more than anything, is something I think Gran Turismo would really benefit from, given that it has seemingly deliberately positioned itself into the “driving simulator” category, as opposed to a serious racing simulator.
Indeed, “The Real Driving Simulator” has been the series tagline since the beginning.
I got into the Shutoko Revival Project mod for the original Assetto Corsa briefly in summer this year, and I couldn’t help but think how cool something this would be in Gran Turismo. Like a drivable hub world based on the “GT City” menus of earlier games, where you can actually drive between all the dealerships, event halls, tuning shops and licence centres in a pretend city, perhaps with it also acting as an online lobby where you can interact with random players doing impromptu races and such. They could even put little touge and dirt courses on the outskirts of the city.
