Clutch, shifter, and all that jazz

Where can I find a 3-pedal set that's similar to FREX's. Or maybe even FREX's set. FREX has a set with special brake and clutch pedal mechanisms to feel like a real pedal, and it's some neat technology. Their site is just so confusing I don't know how to acquire one. Same for their shifter. Any one know of a good place to get a shifter and clutch set?

EDIT I had no idea we had a dedicated forum for this stuff! Off we go...

You can only use their standard 2-pedal setup if all you want to do is play GT4, as any pedal set with a clutch is of course not going to work with any console.

If, however, you also race PC games, then I would recommend getting the added clutch and adding, if possible, the simclutch+ as well.

For a shifter..I would also again recommend the Frex Shift+...(Left side of pic) it's a great device and really adds to the realism of playing GT4..I know cuz I have one as well! :)

NOTE: It's currently designed to work with the Logitech DFP, so if you've got another wheel you're using, I'd suggest contacting Frex for confirmation if it can be used with your current wheel.

Hope this helps?

i contacted frex and its a no go with the williams wheel :(

maybe in the future i will get a DFP so i can stick all the frex stuff on it. :D

i asked that! and they said it would only work on "250mm-260mm pure racing wheels" whatever that means, so i've asked them again what other wheels it fits on and i'll post what they say on thsi thread.

i mean, wtf do they class as a pure racing wheel? lol

You would have thought that they cater for all types of wheels but oh no, they prbably get paid by logitech and microsoft or something dumb like that.

not that i know of. Its a pity, if they catered for the williams wheel i would definatly buy it all. But they dont so its off to buy a DFP at some point.

the problem is that the dfp is to expensive and so is the frex items, to get just a quick release ver.2 and a momo model 12 steering wheel is £320! (estimate) plus £80 for the dfp, so thats £400! i would like it but i am only 14 and my dad won't get it for me!

Don't forget, Frex is in Japan and not every wheel manufacture is going to ship their product overseas, especially if sales locally are not up to par. Therefore, one shouldn't put all the blame on Frex, as they can only work with what they have access to. Case in point, I've been racing on the PS2 & PC for a few years now and up until you mentioned it, I had never heard of or seen the F1 wheel.

Now, imagine being in JAPAN! I doubt you'll find that wheel in any gaming store over there. Therefore, if you're a company like Frex, why spend time developing/building products for a wheel you can't get or isn't as good as other similar wheels on the market?

MMMMM...got you thinking didn't I? :-)

lol, you are very correct. i do see now maybe why thery dont do it for the williams.

i have one question though, obviously frex equipment works with the DFP but does it still work for GT4?

Oh yeah!
Matter of fact, they (Frex) even quote compatibility especially for PS2/GT4 on their web site...Check it out here ...

Just scroll down about 1/2 of the page and look for where it says FrexGP PRO Series ... and read the little blob in the text box..

I'd post pics of my setup showing better pics of the wheel/shifter but my hosting company is currently on my sh** list and their servers are SO SLOW right now, that you'd see ice melt faster then the pics loading completely in your browser! :(

The whole pedal set is 600 dollars, with the clutch and simclutch. Not including the h shifter either, and this is in addition to the 100 dollars I already spent on my wheel! Plus the fact I have no idea how to assemble the pedals or hook them up properly... I just wish they'd make a 'deluxe' set with all three pedals and the special brake and clutch mechanisms for realistic feel and all the pentiometers and everything raring to go... or just make their own wheel product! The shifter is 400 bucks, totalling 1000USD, plus shipping from Japan and assembly! Too much of a price to pay considering I can go to a track day for 25 bucks.

its definatly an expensive set of equipment. It will be worth it im sure but need some money via a job first :D

While it is expensive, you get what you pay for and I can assure you if/when the time comes you can order from Frex, you will NOT be dissapointed!

NOTE: Yes, I spent a lot on my purchase from Frex, (over $1200 U.S.) and while I, like you, could have spent $25 bucks at a local track to go autocrossing in my own car, that's only 56 consecutive days at the track...Yes, I know that's a lot of time at the track (:)) however, I've already exceeded that number of days racing GT4 with my Frex setup...without paying anything more and therefore to me, it was money well spent! :)

srd, is it easy to set the frex stuff up? how do you set it up?

Depends on what is ordered:

For example, when I placed my order w/Frex, I ordered the following parts/products:

1. Custom DFP
(Which simply means Frex will take care of all the conversations to wheel, shifter, brake, etc. etc. themselves, thereby taking responsibility for any problems that may arise and performing the necessary testing before shipping.)

2. Shifter+ (Sequential Shifter)
3. Handbrake+
4. Sparco Racing Wheel
5. Wheelbox+

So, what I got in return was a DFP which had the orignal wheel removed and the Sparco wheel added, along with the wheelbox+, (which simply is a replacement for the "Square", "Triangle", "Circle" & "X" buttons on the orig. wheel) As well as the orig. DFP shifter removed.

Then, out from the hole left by the removal of the DFP shifter were two wires, each one having a PS2 connector on it...(think of the connector used for plugging in a keyboard or mouse and you'll know what I'm talking about) which would then be plugged into the other end of either the shift+ or the handbrake+.

Now, granted, I could have just ordered everything above BUT the custom DFP and attempted to do the whole thing myself, but since I'm in NO way technically inclined to tackle such a job, I just figured it would be easier if Frex did it themselves.

If, however, I just wanted say the shift+...I'd have to take apart my own DFP and deal w/removing the orig. shifter and having to re-wire the new shifter to the internals of the DFP...and all that jazz and again, that's not the type of thing I'm comfortable with.

Hope this small bit of info helps?

If not, shoot me an email (simracedriver@comcast.net) and I'll be more then happy to provide further info and/or pics!
