Just gave the Hardcore playlist a try. First race went alright. Second race I got up to 3rd, approaching a hairpin I got punted and immediately got totaled. I think I'll stay off it for a while until all the noobs have finished trying the new mode and went back to the normal playlist.

Also, it might just be me, but the cars feel slightly heavier and less drift prone when you lift off the throttle now. Much more intuitive to drive than before.

That's good. Some of the tier 4 cars were animals to drive because of the tendency to go sideways as soon as you thought about lifting off throttle.

The Hardcore playlist is both hugely infuriating and rewarding.

I like the whole feeling of "Oh crap this is all going to go wrong very quickly and very catastrophically" during each race. Like the back-left tyre on my Atom exploding and spinning me around, into the path of a GT-R who takes me out of the race. Fun fun fun.

And was it just me who thought that the DLC taster cars (containing the compatability packs) were going to be patched into the game? Could anyone who hasn't purchased the DLC confirm this?

Oh well, guess we'll have to wait for the Demolition Derby patch to fix that one...

It is rewarding if you have a great group of clean racers in the room, but right now there are still the odd one or two rogue noobs that will try to take you out on the 3rd corner. And I don't find waiting around 5 minutes between 30 second races any fun at all. So I'll stick away from it for a while. I'm also kinda disappointed that it doesn't pay out more than the standard playlist :/

And no the DLC hasn't been patched yet. All they've done is added a tiny notification at the bottom of the player's list in the lobby. Doubt anybody who haven't bought the DLC will read that...

What a difference a patch can do! The cars do feel like they weigh a bit heavier than they used to, and that helps a lot when you don't need to drift when you need to.

Good to know it's not all in my head  The Agera is still nigh undrivable though. Good thing is the Veyron is no longer as dominant as it used to because of the weight. The lightweight cars tuned to the max can now be competitive in Tier 4.

grid 2 carrier still freezes every time I try to do a race after the update? sorry I meant to post not reply

I've been trying out all the cars tuned to the max lately. I'm surprised how well tuned T3 cars perform against T4. The heavyweight cars are surprisingly good for touge tracks. Tuned T1 are also good for touge (though you'll get smoked at the start). Haven't found a good tuned T2 car yet.

Yeah unfortunately some people are still reporting freezing in career mode after the patch. If you haven't gone too far my advice would be to restart everything just to prevent future freezes. You could wait for the next patch, but I have a feeling it's gonna take a while since CM is focusing on releasing DLCs again.

Speaking of DLC, some PC modders have found Spa + Bathurst and various other cars in the in-game files (Z4, Aston GT3, V8 Supercars and some cars from Grid 1). Looking good, but CM's gonna milk these for all its worth lol.

Wow, they're reusing the Z4 GT3 (E85) from Dirt 2 instead of the latest one (E89). That's kinda cheap. Only one that looks worth purchasing is the pack with the Aston Martin Zagato (even if it reuses assets from really old titles).

Who the **** decided that tracks with divided road were a good idea? The placement of them in Paris and Barcelona are truly horrible. And constantly using the narrow street cicuits instead of proper tracks for tier 4 races? WTF? The first 30 sec of some of the season 5 races feels like demolition derby, and you have be aggressive because by the time you get tgrough the field cleanly, first place is off in the [/rant]

Seconeded. Dubai's are bad too. The AI pathfinding can be infuriating as well, and I've been aggravated by becoming a pinball from time to time. Still, soild game(up to S4 now).

For some reason I havent had a huge problem at Dubai. The number of times I wipe out (or get pushed into) dividers at the other two though...
Im finding the early part of S5 very frustrating. Hopefully they use some circuits later on.

Sooo, Lightweights. It seems that CM may have stubbed their toe on these being T3. All three outclass even the McLaren, though the KTM is not balanced at all.

Also, Me to game:"GOD WOULD BOTH OF YOU SHUT THE **** UP! I ALREADY KNOW WHAT YOU(Callahan) WON'T SHUT UP ABOUT, AND YOU("Crew Chief" whatever his name is) ARE THE MOST QUALIFIED PERSON I'VE EVER HAD THE DISPLEASURE OF BEING AROUND TO REPLACE CAPTAIN OBVIOUS, DUMB-A**!" God am I glad you can change the audio mid race.

Are you talking about the MP4-12C or the F1 GT? The lightweights handle great on twisties, but their top speed is lacking. If you tune the MP4-12C online it can remain quite competitive on open tracks. Offline the Caterham pwns though. And yes the KTM handles weird. Even with all mods online I can never be sure what it's going to do in a corner.

I'd also like to add that the Caterham is generally useless. Bruno Silva Rolled his Atom at Okotuma(sp) and still caught up to me without any problems. I couldn't lose the X-bow either. I'm beginning to see why people didn't like the end of the game.

Also, what happened to practice? Is it a sign of weakness for the developers to put practice sessions in non-licensed games? This "learn it on the fly" bs is, well, bs.

EDIT: It gets better, because the further in I get, the more I see that this is merely GRID1 with an few updates. The AI not only has no self-preservation tendencies, but also refuses to acknowledge the player existing, much less being in their line, so we have another example of monorail-AI(the few times they peek out or pass don't matter enough), but also we have the return of the rubberband! At some point, you'll begin to notice that one guy can just run away from the field, despite not running a much different line once you get to them. You may also notice that in the WSR, it's one of the club leaders. That wouldn't be an issue, if it weren't for the fact that it can between any of them within the same series, AND it could be an event none of them specialize in. Oh, yes, I almost forgot. It becomes apparent in Season 4 that your car is programmed to be about the weight of you, whereas the AI which will be coming to turn you into a pinball, weighs about as much as a truck fully loaded with reinforced concrete. Yet another GRID 1 deal I had hoped wouldn't return.

Meh iI played it, the crash graphics are a step down from grid one 0.0 WHY! Plus allot of teh original tracks and cars are not in it =/ rubbish i say just rubbish

So I'm not the only one finding Single player getting worse the further you go in. Only reason I'm even willing to continue with this game is for the cars I don't have in other games. Whenever I beat the game, I'm done with single player and will only play online with friends. I do not want to race against morons.

I........am sooooooo pissed right now.

Tier 4 cars, no actual practice, bs stats. Four attempts at the F1, one with the Mono but no flashbacks left, three with the GOD AWFUL One-77.

Next, Overtake, on a tight track with trucks going 60, pathfinding that make RTS games from the early 90's look good, and penalties when you get hit by a truck(on you), or brush a leaf, or slide off the track because you didn't want to hit the truck that swerved in front of you coming out of the turn.

Final straw, race 1. Start 11th, against Ageras and Veyrons, with the AI already mentioned, and you have to pick the right car because otherwise the game will fire two cars so far ahead you have little chance of catching and passing both before the race ends, BY THE FIRST ******* LAP!!!

Why? Why, time and time again, must we be let down by people who give up? This could have been an epic, but as I see it, it's a solid game let down by lazy programming, and considering the cars carryover, the online doesn't save it.

@Wii: I'm interested...but I know there a few people here that aren't.

@BKG: Try playing on a lower difficulty if you're getting so frustrated, or playing on Custom Events and getting some practice with the cars in the game to see which one like you the most. If none of that works, I have to suggest you try a different game entirely.

I know about the custom events, but we shouldn't have to make our own test sessions. The lack of an actual practice session is something that has been bothering me about some games. Obviously NASCAR and F1 games have it, but even in GT you have to leave the event and rebuild it for practice, It just seems unnecessary.

As for difficulty, I thought about it. If I pick it up again this week, I'll try again, and if I fail then I probably will drop down. I'm playing on normal though, Extreme in GRID 1 wasn't this bad. I think my biggest issue is that the cars in Tiers 3 and 4 just aren't balanced like they should be if they're to be bundled together. The Lightweights obliterate GT cars, which was my tipping point.

I do appreciate the help Nick. I may need to avoid the Overtake events, as those seem to get me wound up faster than most anything else, and pretty much all the ranting post were within an event or two of an overtake deal.

OH YEAH: One last thing, I don't mind losing to people (as long as it's fair), but computers, I can't stand to be beaten by a computer.

STATUS: Started again, won in the F1 GT against two Ageras and another F1, AI is as bad as I recalled, but GT3 cars do handle nicely. The MP4-12 is a balanced car in the same way that butter is great for grip, much like the KTM.

PART 2: The Agera is scary, I don't like being forced into an inferior car, fans or not, and while CHeckpoint is a good idea, the fact that the race can be determined by a few feet doesn't sit well, nor does the fact that you can have a perfect run and still lose by those few feet.

FINAL: Did I ever make the 'Tank vs Tin-Can' comparison? Yes? OK then. If you are unfortunate enough to get a decent starting position on the grid in S5, and aren't driving a Huyara, Veyron, or Agera, get ready for the pain-train, as they don't slow down for you. They only slow down after they've shunted you, likely damaging you car quite badly with one hit. The AI also apparently has a drifting class DURING the last event as their scores go from maybe 175000 to 300000 and finally to 450000, when normal to this point had been 150000. Point-to-point's and I don't get along at this point either, as my best wouldn't qualify had not been leading already. These last two sent me into a rage so hard, I'm surprised no one from the local PD is checking on a disturbance(not joking).

What can I say about the final, the good were that not every race devolved into becoming the pinball, and that the Ageras only Supercar challenger is the F1, GT3 makes it less painful. Oh yes, I did win. Everything. lost a race here and there, more restarts, flashbacks, and totals than I want to count, and hope the game doesn't anymore(not that I can find). At this point, the online IS better, but I'm not sure I can recommend it to anyone. Maybe an enemy.

I can't shake a feeling though, about myself and not the game.

I may lurk for a few days. I'll do Cool Wall, but that may be all for a bit.

The Huayra once fully tuned pwns T4 online. It drives like the love-child of the Veyron and Agera. Not too understeery, not too oversteery. Just perfect. The McLaren F1 fully tuned is slightly slower than those 3, but has the best grip. It feels like a GT3 car with downforce. Not so good for sweeping tracks cuz you can't drift easily though.

Testing out car/upgrade/track combos is where online really shines for me. Winning with an oddball car is so much fun  The variety helps me get better at drifting too. Still can't drive the Agera though :P

I normally try to run my cars as hard as I can/they are able before upgrading, mainly because I could already buy most of tier 1 and 2 with upgrades.

I believe that with the Agera, and with all the 🤬 I did on the single player, the online racing is better, mainly because the 'Feather Vs. Freight Train' impact physics don't carry over.

While I'm here, and not mentally compromised, I assume Demo Derby is paid DLC?

Without upgrades you're a sitting duck though. It might not seem much difference judging by the stats bars, but on track there's a huge difference in drivability. I've bought all cars & upgrades for Tier 1,2,3. With some cars even fully tuned you still get smoked by the top cars in each class. The good thing is once you bought a part, it only costs $127 to install/uninstall, so you can experiment as much as you like 👍 I'm just missing 4 cars in Tier 4 then I'm done (will need another $2 million for that ).

The community patch announcement by CM said DD is free. Dunno if they've changed their mind.

I had a minor breakdown after giving single-player the finger(won everything), so I haven't even turned on the PS3. Gonna eat something, then give it a short go tonight.

Stock T3 and T4, I imagined that doing it willingly was probably terrible, but I was having issues with the NSX and 722 from go. Apparently, T1 isn't too hard to stay competitive with a stocker, as I did it a few times. T2 is harder, but both depend on others skill and mindset. Here's hoping DD takes the latter away.

LATER: Should have realized we console underlings won't get it for another week.
