From five minutes of playing the game at a store, my first impression of Grid 2 was how good the graphics were. After playing GT5 it was refreshing to see a racing game on the PS3 with no obvious graphical flaws. The track I was racing actually had atmosphere as well, which was a nice change. The handling was very arcadey though, however I still might give it a shot, after I work through Borderlands and The Last Of Us.

As long as you don't try to force comparisons to something else and enjoy GRID 2 for what it is I think it can be great fun. I too appreciate the lively environments, something that missing from many racing games. I don't need all my racing games to be alike, each has their own strengths and weaknesses. I run GRID 2 on a PC, so I don't know if the consoles provide the same experience.

Makes me laugh that, according to Codemasters, only 5% of players used the cockpit view. Id like to know how they got this information. For me though, no cockpit view automatically makes it a crap game. Not really caring how good its supposed to be overall. I sincerely hope this is not the way forward for Codemasters.

Cockpit view is restrictive and gives you little idea of the dimensions of the car.

Ya I really don't understand how that makes the game a a deal breaker to people. I think it's because they just want something to complain about.

Well I still have yet to play this game but I really want to!

Yeah because being strapped to the hood or floating 10 feet behind the car is how I normally drive my car. People like cockpit view because if set up correctly its the most realistic view you can get. Most console games though don't allow for fov adjustments.

I have to agree here. Just because GT's 1-4 didn't have interior cameras didn't mean it instantly became a bad game and nobody should buy it. All Codies did was take the time it took them to model a cockpit and transferred it to making EGO 3.0, and boy does it show.

I just found the Cockpit view debacle hilarious just for the fact that in my opinion, Codemasters games have the worst cockpit view of them all. Very restrictive and little to no freedom. People seriously wanted that back? Really?

Anyhow, playing Grid 2 right now. How do I get new cars? (other then the challenges you win them at)

Was hoping there was some way to buy them offline.

At points you get to choose from two cars; you can win the one you didn't choose later in a challenge.

Thats the only way to get cars offline. Keep in mind your offline garage is completely separate to the online one.

The game isn't realistic to begin with. That should hardly be an argument that is made here.

Just reached this point yesterday:

After doing a few races, I'm definitely starting to see that.

Say, how about you guys post your Liveries here? Pretty sure you guys have managed to out together some decent ones.

I was a victim to the freezing issue of the game. It happened to me twice now... But, I think I got around that by playing on version 1.00 of the game; yes, no online, but who cares?

Just bought the game recently. Liking offline so far, actually.

Anyway, I've given online a shot, and gave the challenges a go. I've only earned $11,000 and went up to level 2. Anyone care to give me pointers on how to level up and earn fast?

I've tried going into online racing, but I can't seem to sort it out the lobby. Noob moment  :/

Thanks in advanced. :D

Racing is the fastest way to level up online. More specifically, placing well in a large race. That is easier said than done. First, you dont get great cars, and need a certain level to get new ones. I suggest upgrading the ones you have until they are the top of their respective tier. Secondly, turn 1. Or any sharp corner on lap 1. Surviving is a lottery. If you survive that, generally the guys in the top couple of places drive reasonably clean.
Good luck 👍.

Just go to playlist and the system does everything. You just choose race only, or everything (including time attack, drift, faceoff etc)

I actually find it easier to win when you're lower leveled since you start near the front. I can never survive first corner intact now that I'm level 30. By the time I work my way up to 2nd, the first place guy usually is already 10 secs ahead. I can outrun the pack, but only keep pace with him, and that's how the race ends.

@Mat123: Upgrade your car and focus on power. Once you get more money and level up a bit, buy 4WD cars as they have the best launch. In the first corner take a wide line (the noobs usually aim for the inside and self destruct). If you can do that just hold your cool. The top guys with the best cars may overtake you later, but you'll generally still place quite high and reap the XP and credits 👍

Here's my reliable lineup during my lower level days:
Tier 1: Alfa Giulietta
Tier 2: Golf R (Tuned)
Tier 3: GT-R R35 (if you don't have it, tune the GT-R R34)
Tier 4: SLR 722 GT (I had the DLC, but I think this is also the default car)

Fair point, but for tier 3 races, I was always getting screwed for the fact that all I had was a very tail happy NSX, while the higher level guys starting behind me were in the Ariel Atom, KTM X-Bow etc.
I still think turn one is a lottery, no matter the grid spot or approach to it. You just have more tickets in the draw when starting at the front.

@Barra: This is why I suggest the Grid order in playlists be that the first person that joined the room start in 1st, last person to join starts in last, etc. That way, if you join earlier, you get a better starting position. Also, when you start in 1st/2nd, you'll (mostly) have no worries about everyone else around you.

The problem with that approach is you end up with a lot of rooms created because everyone wants to start first. You will also kill the room size. Most arent going to join a room knowing ahead of time that their starting in the back.

Yeah the NSX is horrible with this game's physics. Shame as it's my favourite car in real life. I think the R34 unlocks quite early though, so you can swap into that ASAP and upgrade it into Tier 3.

@LeGeNd-1: The SLR 722 is your default rental. SLR 722 GT is a GT3-Class DLC car.

Thanks for correcting me. I always forgot that there's a road car version as well 👍

Just hit the SportsCenter segment. That was pretty amusing.

Those clips were the highlight of single player for me
