colin mccrash strikes again

I was watching the X Games on Saturday when it happened. On Sunday they had a recap of the best tricks of the day and they called McRae's a "Fender Plant to Rollover".

They're running Rally races in the X-games. This is a new one on me.
This was the first year. I happened to have caught it when it was just starting.

some of the drifting-type maneuvers he was pulling were awesome

Amazing driving, and still manages 2nd  Shame though, he would have mullered the gold time if it wasn't for the flip... The guy in 3rd is probably a bit peeved - beaten by someone who spent atleast part of his lap upside down  Colin McRae

The more I look at that wreck, the more I think about how that fornt suspension could've folded under, stripping him of any medal. Pure luck. That, and no forest off to the side to run into.

The already did that part of the race. It was 8 timed stages and then the last one was in and around the stadium.

After just under an hour of racing, Travis Pastrana won by .6 seconds.

I was looking for the course, but came up empty. This'll have to do.

Rally Car Racing

Rally Car Racing features a driver and co-driver racing street legal cars on closed sections of roads called "stages." The goal in rally is to accumulate the lowest elapsed driving time on a prescribed course. The co-driver navigates the course and communicates upcoming road conditions to the driver, so that a high rate of speed can be maintained around and over natural obstacles such as blind crests, jumps, hairpin turns, dips, etc. Although rally cars are high-tech and highly powered, they all start as cars that everyone can own. Subaru WRX's, Mazda 6s, Dodge Neons, Mitsubishi Evos, Volkswagen GTIs—these and others are all popular cars that real people drive everyday.
Scoring

Each of the 12 driver / co-driver teams will race 9 stages. Stages 1-8 will take place in the Los Angeles area with the 9th and final stage, called the "Super Special" taking place live at Home Depot Center. The team with the lowest elapsed driving time wins the rally.

For a car to be eligible for use in rally events, it must be based on a model built by a recognized manufacturer. They must have required safety equipment, such as a full roll cage, approved safety harnesses and fire extinguishers. There are several classifications but all X Games driver /co-driver teams will use Open Class cars. These cars are all wheel drive, turbocharged and supercharged cars.

Article from this week's Autosport:

Won't do any harm to rallying's image and exposure in America whatsoever.
