Is it too hard for game makers to get WRC licence nowadays? I'm sure there is a market for a proper rally game with all the '08 countries. I mean dirt was an awesome game, but I would love a pure WRC game. P.S. I don't have a working PC so Richard Burns is out of the queston for me.

i just assumed from the mass of beer bottles on the floor and the state of the driver

i hope there is a WRC aspect to this game, actual timed stages
they are still using colin mcrae's name..

Looks to Need for Speed Underground-ish. What's with racing games having story's now? I just want to grab a car and race, don't need crappy acting mixed in.

No chance of me ever buying this game, if they show no development from CMR, a game which I massively regret buying. One of the worst racing games I've played in a long time.

here's a new teaser video
frankly,
im not liking where this franchise is going...
(like drinking and driving)

Yeah, this commercial was really S___T

Drugs, drinking, driving..

As well they wanna make the racing look like a FLASHY thing.

:ouch:

I personally enjoyed the first DiRT game, and all the previous CMR games (I have every Colin McRae game for the Playstation consoles/PSP) so I'll definately get DiRT 2 - If it's not very good when it does come out, I'll get it and keep it just so I can have the whole collection...

I do preffer strait rallying, like the origional Colin McRae Rally series on the PS1, PS2 and the PSP version of 2005 but it dosn't put me off playing DiRT... I completed DiRT within a week, so I hope for a lot more races, cars and content.

I would also like the ability to play my own music off the PS3 harddrive (I want this feature in every PS3 game as I have very different tastes in music comparid to about 90% of people my age)...

Either way, I'll buy the game... I do actually like the 1st image posted but I don't want the whole game to be like that - I want the majority of the game to be standard rallying.

That video isn't particularly confidence building...Please Codemasters, can you not just make a game in memory of Colin McRae and actually make it true to what he used to do? As it doesn't look like the current direction of the game....

I must admit, it sounding much better now. I also saw a video of Codemasters showing what they've done, kind of a behind the scenes video. It looked much better than I expected.

The official trailer made it look terrible, like some sort of Motorstorm wannabe, but the behind the scenes video has restored my faith in it. I like that they've made the cars have more weight to them and improved the handling, it felt very odd in the first game.

Thats exactly what I thought, as much as I loved Dirt the orginal the physics were weird. But they look much better now :) And the sounds are amazing!

WOW on that studio tour video. Love the water effects, the car sounds, handling looks like it's been improved. Can't wait for this one now. :)

The shots show are target renders NOT in-game grabs. I really wish they would bring back the great racing of the old CM and Toca games. the first of both franchises were the best by far, from then on they slowly went down hill.

👍 Yup, I agree. I think getting the physics right on the force feedback is the hardest and takes up most of the man hours for each car. Thats why they can't seem to match GT in that department because that's Kaz top priority in the game and he has the budget for it. Where as most developers has a limited budget from the producers they just go ahead and release the game even if they haven't gotten the physics done right.

Where as MS is concerned with regard to Forza. They are just really developing the game for the X'Box which is really limited to what the processor can do. Plus they don't have the same philosophy and comitment as KAZ who can program the game and knows the inner workings of car handling so he can translate it to the physics through the force feedback that we experience when playing in GT with a wheel.

Mind you if the other inferior racing Sims out there could get that one right they could probably get away with a really good game even if the graphics wheren't as good as it can be. It really is all about the feeling you get when youre driving in the game if it dosen't feel real then it's just okay even if the visuals are stuning.

My only worry about the next installment of DiRT is that i feel they are going the NFS: Pro Street direction. I've seen some pics of the game and was surprised to see 50ft banners of DC shoes, and Monster energy drink..

DiRT was an awesome game, and still is. I hope they retain much of the original's essence, insted of appealing to 12 year old kids.

Well, hopefully GT5 will pickup where they left off and we can have stage rallies and all.

I'm starting to think it really won't be that bad, I think the video which conveys this the most is the Studio Tour one, simply because it actually shows us some of the physcis. I think this really could be quite good, as I've said before I don't like the direction its heading but that won't stop me buying it.

I wonder if the graphics on a console will be as good as on pc?

If you actually play the games you realize the PD is more about the graphics then physics. FFB is not that good in GT 5 Prologue either. Much better in Forza 2. Which like Forza 3 is of course on the Xbox 360 not the original Xbox :) The PS 3 doesn´t have that much more CPU power. the 360 have more GPU power so in the end they are quite evenly matched. I would say all you can do on the Xbox 360 you can also do on the PS 3 no problem :)

Both are surely good enough to do a proper racing simulation on par with what´s currently on the PC if they would put more resources on the physics side instead of rendering amazing graphics. GT 5 Prologue is not there. Apart from Race Pro, Forza 2 the closest I have run but still a bit to go.

But well D.I.R.T 2 nice to see they are redoing the physics. That was really a must since it was god damn hard to power slide the cars with brakes that is way to effective too. It also had the same problem as wtih GRID and Toca Race Driver that many racing series was just awful. Codemasters later games really was is all about quantity. Not a single thought on quality obviously. Apart from the visual parts PD have a competitor here as graphics nuts lol.

As for the video was I the only one that thought it looked exactly like Sega Rally Revo? Nice to see good power sliding on it lol. Revo was quite fun though a bit buggy on the PC port. I do like they added pot holes and such on the track. Wonder if they will have the same track deformation too.

But well GRID turned out to be very fun. It had a lot of crap but some parts was excellent like drifting and muscle cars on the city tracks. Still I would still like Codemasters to going back to the routes. It´s something wrong with the original Colin Mcrae Rally not being toppled by them yet...

Richard Burns Rally is a hardcore sim so it plays in it´s own league. That never gets old otherwise I would be more frustrated with codemasters and Dice not making any new Rallisport challenge titles then I already am lol

Most likely the pc version will be better for graphic then the console version but then you will need a very good pc and since i gave up on pc upgrading i will be buying it for ps3.

8800 GTX and a lower clocked core 2 duo and 2 gig ram and you have much more power then either the PS 3 or 360 :). Yet to find a console port I ain´t maxing out with way higher texture quality and resolution with that computer.

However for those bad ports it helps with a higher clocked core 2 duo :)

Where did you get those requirements from?

At least to my knowledge they're no-where near to releasing any...

The fact that for recommended requirements they've got an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ and an ATI Radeon X1950 kind of shows they're probably wrong :/

In games, even the Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 kicks the AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+'s ass and that old E6300 runs at a pathetic 1.86GHz; for example, the newer generation Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 2.66GHz would massacre it.

Don't get me started on the ATI Radeon X1950... You'd honestly need two X1950 Pros in CrossFire to compare it to a single 8800 series card... And even then, i don't think they would beat a single 8800GTS (512) or GTX or Ultra.

Those requirements are hugely AMD/ATI sided and not a game in the world bums AMD/ATI that much :sly:
