Hard fouls, upsets, controversy, and a losing streak comes to an end.

* The hard foul deal came when top-ranked Kentucky was at LSU. #23 for the Kentucky Wildcats got roughed up a little bit earlier in the game, but later was (basically) horsecollar tackled by one LSU Tiger on a fast break. The LSU player was thrown out.

* Little Final Fantasy for you- how do you beat a winged creature (like birds)? Use wind! Cyclones blew away the Jayhawks in Ames, IA. Big win. Another big wins include Colorado State beating San Diego State in Fort Collins, CO.

* Syracuse beat West Virginia 64-62, but the real story was the controversial moment with about 6.2 seconds left in the game. A goaltend wasn't called. So the Orange survived despite the Mountaineers' advances to try to win the game.

* Murray State is still unbeaten as they smacked Eastern Illinois at home. 21-0 for the "Please Take Us Seriously" Murray State Racers.

* Towson University had a 41-game losing streak... until they took down North Carolina-Wilmington 66-61 at home. The Towson Tigers got it done especially late.

Just some random notes from Saturday. Hope your team(s) won on Saturday as well.

Here's a pretty funny video from when FSU beat Duke.

CAM
So are you pro-UNC over Duke Omnis? Tsk tsk tsk...

Umm... no? I go to FSU. I wouldn't mind going to Duke or UNC though. Anything is better than here unless you like feeling like a weed.

I was just wondering, most people have a preference one way or the other, especially when you live in-state. What do you mean feeling like a weed? It's looking like you guys' football recruiting class will be exceptional, which is beyond me.

Meaning that every science class here is a weed out class. Yeah, they have a good football class but that seems to be the only thing this school is built around.

At least Hamilton has been allowed to stay for some years, that's what makes teams better. And yes, Carolina's Intro to Bio class is supposed to be one of the hardest classes in the country to make sure too many people don't go to med school, one of the many reasons I hate Chapel Hill.

Man. I saw most of North Carolina at Maryland earlier today. That was a GREAT game! Both teams unfortunately had quite a bit of foul trouble on both ends. UNC hosts Duke this Wednesday. For those of you not really into college basketball, uh... UNC/Duke is a VERY big deal. I really want to see how Florida State fares at North Carolina later this month.

I haven't been active in here, but I thought I would just drop in to say, "How about those Cats? GO CATS!!!"

I haven't been in this thread much because of school, but I know I've already had a Duke/UNC argument with someone in here already this year. I'm alright with Carolina winning today, just as long as my Blue Devils can keep it close come Wednesday. A close game either way is good, blowouts are when the sore winners start to come through the cracks, and there's nothing I hate more than a sore winner.

As for KU/Mizzou, kudos to Frank Haith. I'm glad he's finally doing well, he deserves it. I also loved how well Vitale and Sherman told those who were unaware stories about the great rivalry those two schools, really a great contest to watch. Denmon was shooting the lights out, too.

Pitiful. Simply pitiful. I can go outside and shoot 70% free throws at worst, and I haven't played organized basketball in 2 years. Free throws are gimmes, boys, you just gave that game away. Free throws.. Good Lord, I'm just disgusted. I guess if they can win on Wednesday, I won't care less, but with that showing.. I'm scared. Still wearing Duke gear to Super Bowl party, never a fair weather fan shall I be.

Of course... don't bring up Duke vs. Kentucky in 1992 with FoolKiller around. I'm sure he'll even say UK > everybody (especially Duke).

It was reported that Memphis will join the Big East for all sports starting in 2013. This will give the Tigers some better men's competition than with them running away with C-USA almost every year. Of course, many ex C-USA teams will join the Big East and play in 2013... including my beloved Houston Cougars, UCF, SMU, and others who recently joined the Big East.

Duke at UNC still on deck on ESPN, but #11 Georgetown at #2 Syracuse is still going on among many other games on other networks.

Florida State lost 64-60 tonight at Boston College. An ESPN report called it an "unexplainable loss." Boston College has been such a sorry team this season. They are usually pretty good in basketball. Sorry for Seminole nation on this loss.

Boston College hasn't been that bad, if you watch them play. They're just ALL freshmen, I'm not kidding. I believe it said over 90% of their points come from freshmen. Kudos to Donahue and the Eagles.

As for the game, you can't keep a lead when a big white kid makes your whole team look like middle schoolers on the boards. Disgusting..

BOX OUT! Christ, I am sick of watching them look at shots and give up 25 offensive rebounds a game, grrr.

THIS JUST IN...

North Carolina makes one out of two free throws late. Duke had no timeouts left... and #9 Duke stuns #5 North Carolina in Chapel Hill- an 85-84 victory for Duke at the buzzer. WOW!

btw yes Duke was HORABLE at boxing out tonight but IT DOESNT MATTER DOES IT? WOOO!!!

I'm so proud of my Blue Devils! Not retaliating to all the trash talkers finally paid off :).

Ahhh, Murray State.. I saw it coming when they had trouble at Tennessee-Martin, who were 3-22 at the time .

Nothing lasts forever. Good news is... there is no BCS in college basketball. You don't need to place high in the Top 25 to make it to the highest postseason game. I found out Tennessee State won 72-68 over #7 Murray State. Tough way to go out.

His Pirates have a better record than my beloved Cougars. The ECU Pirates are currently 12-12 (3-7 in C-USA Men) while my Coogs are 11-12 (3-7 in C-USA Men). The Lady Cougars are a depressing 2-20 (1-9 in C-USA Women) while the ECU Lady Pirates are 6-17 (0-10 in C-USA Women).

Whether you're looking forward to men's hoops and/or women's hoops this weekend, there are PLENTY of good games coming up. And next weekend, it's Bracketbuster weekend. One of the big matchups next weekend will be Saint Mary's at Murray State. The Racers may have to settle for next season if they can't knock off a very game Saint Mary's squad next weekend.

Enjoy your college hoops! I may get to check out Kentucky at Vanderbilt if I'm home and can remember to tune in.

This is the time where conference champions earn their way into the NCAA Tournament. I'd like to congratulate all conference champions for this season both on the men's side and women's side. One of the many to go dancing this tournament is Murray State. And if you can believe it, Murray State is the FIRST team to 30 wins this season. Their only slip-up was at home against the team they beat for the Ohio Valley title- Tennessee State.

Next Sunday is Selection Sunday.
