That's all for this post. Enjoy this upcoming weekend of college football! You ready for college football? Then come along and let's chat!

As I found out on ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption," there's a sad anniversary to report on.

EXTRA: On This Day...
...two years ago today, THIS happened:

That's right. It's what Joey D rather not hear rumble again. On September 1, 2007; I was listening to a radio broadcast while out on the road with my parents. I heard the score for Michigan and Appalachian State. I actually picked (then) #5 Michigan to win this game. But unfortunately (all on the Big Ten Network's debut), the Wolverines couldn't take down the Appalachian State Mountaineers. And if that wasn't bad enough, Appalachian State would lose only one or two more games that remaining season... all the way to the FCS National Championship. This was a game that proved that ANYTHING can happen in a college football game, and that there are never any true guaranteed wins. You can still play like crap or play down to your opposition and lose. Winning takes a total team effort. And unfortunately in this game, Appalachian State did the unthinkable at the Big House.

With new allegations surfacing with Rich Rodriguez at Michigan, who knows if Rich-Rod gets run out of town like Kentucky did to Tubby Smith in men's basketball?

Michigan's first five games:
* 9/5 - Western Michigan
* 9/12 - #23 Notre Dame
* 9/19 - Eastern Michigan
* 9/26 - Indiana
* 10/3 - at Michigan State

What's wrong? Too good to leave the state of Michigan (just joking!)? And in case you're wondering... 11/21 = Ohio State... in the Big House. Two games concern me besides the Ohio State game. I'm looking at the 10/10 meeting at #22 Iowa and #9 Penn State. At Wisconsin also concerns me to an extent. I think Michigan's going to a Bowl Game this season and resume the streak they started of making consecutive Bowl Games. They MIGHT start 3-2 or 4-1 in the first five games. I'm thinking an 8-4 season or maybe a 7-5 season.

A funny thing... they play ON Halloween at Illinois. If Michigan's ranked, it's going to be one long Halloween for Michigan. It looks like every Saturday, they'll play. No off-week for the blue and maize. They'll be done when they're through with Ohio State.

The thread is on and open to all of you! Feel free to chat about your favorite teams in this, my fifth or sixth season of college football on GTPlanet!

Don't look to hard at the Wolverines this year. Rodriguez still wants to run the spread offense with a team that he does not even have the personnel for it. Michigan is out of the Big 10 chase for a few more years,until they can develop the spread.Once they can get it developed and working to a science,then the Big 10 will be in trouble,Michigan will rise to power again.Big Blue could start a trend in the Big 10 if it pans out for them,if not,it's going to be one heck of a learning curve for them.

Ask Jim Tressel about the spread offense and how difficult it is to beat.:ouch:

It looks like the ESPN networks will air the game between South Carolina at North Carolina State. They'll also do Oregon at Boise State. A real concern this weekend involves UCLA playing against San Diego State at the Rose Bowl. That concern comes in the form of those wildfires. If the air quality is deemed unhealthy, this game could be moved to December. I think neither SDSU nor UCLA will make a Bowl Game, so they've got nothing to lose here.

All hands on deck tomorrow as college football returns! You ready for the new season? I got you covered. Or at least, I'll try.

Ready for college football 2009? Well, you better be because a number of games are ready to get kicked off tonight! In fact, I think there are at least 30 to 50 games slated for tonight. So go watch TV or go out and go see a game!

I am defiantly looking forward to the season. I don't think Michigan will have a great team this year but there are always surprises in NCAA football, I'm hoping they at least beat Michigan State. However it turns out though, I just enjoy watching the boys in blue take to the field every Saturday.

I would say a 7-5 season isn't out of the question for them.

College football got back underway two weeks ago. But now, EVERYBODY's in on the act! Get your fill of college football goodness from me the way I provide it! So if you aren't down with that, then go visit some other thread or forum. Thursday night lights, baby!

Division FBS Scores
Source: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaaf/scoreboard?w=1&c=all&y=2009

I do all of my games at random, and I don't choose every game. So check my source to see more scores.

Raleigh, North Carolina - Gamecocks Seek Strong Start
* South Carolina {Gamecocks} at North Carolina State {Wolfpack}
A mostly clear evening in North Carolina's capital city of Raleigh gave way to the start of a long season. This game is only the first in about 11 or 12 games. It's the battle of the Carolinas as the Gamecocks look to put down some puppies. However, the North Carolina State Wolfpack are hungry for some Gamecock meat... and I'm NOT talking about from the tailgate parties! Missed opportunities and failed execution for North Carolina State (including fumbling the ball on their very first possession) led to South Carolina scoring the only touchdown in this game. And it was enough to win. (7-3; South Carolina)

Muncie, Indiana - MAC Championship Runners Up Meet the Weakest Texas School in FBS
* North Texas {Mean Green/Eagles} at Ball State {Cardinals}
Studentdriver loves me to call Ball State as the MAC runners-up. Ball State would pretty much be a BCS Bowl lock if they had only beaten the Buffalo Bulls. But they didn't... and they lost bad. Now the Cardinals will want to put aside their two-game losing streak after Ball State has done nothing but lose to teams in years past. The Mean Green have been losers last season, even in the super-weak Sun Belt. This is going to be an uphill battle for the boys from Denton, Texas. North Texas scored the first Touchdown and left Ball State with a win. (20-10; North Texas)

Boise, Idaho - BCS Bowl Hopes on the Line... This Early?
* #16 Oregon {Ducks} at #14 Boise State {Broncos}
The second game of an ESPN doubleheader featured Oregon at Boise State. It's almost safe to call this a rivalry game since these two just don't like each other. The Broncos of Boise State won the last meeting in Oregon. Now the Ducks of Oregon (I don't get people who pronounce Oregon as "Orr-eh-gone") are ready to down some horses. Oregon didn't score anything in the first half while Boise State picked up 13 points. Boise State scored almost every possible way- touchdown, 2-point conversion, safety, and field goal. They led 13-0 after one half. (19-8; #14 BOISE STATE)

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - The Football Version of the Big 5 Plays Itself Out on the Gridiron
* Villanova {Wildcats} at Temple {Owls}
Temple, Villanova, and Pennsylvania are the only Big Five schools that have football. Saint Joseph's discontinued football a long time ago while La Salle University disbanded its football team a few years ago. Drexel makes up the City Six, and there is no football for the Drexel Dragons. There are some Big East ties to this game. Villanova plays in the Big East for most other sports, but play in the CAA from the former Atlantic 10 football conference. Temple played in the Big East for football, and failed miserably. Now the Owls have found a football home in the MAC. The Villanova Wildcats is a powerful FCS team. About as powerful as their men's basketball team. Time to go to work. Villanova edged out the Owls in this FCS-beat-FBS victory. (27-24; Villanova)

Ames, Iowa - A High Test for Iowa State... Maybe
* North Dakota State {Bison} at Iowa State {Cyclones}
Plenty of controversy with Charles Barkley saying that race was an issue in Auburn hiring Gene Chisik rather than [the University of] Buffalo's coach. Now with the new Cyclones' coach, they'll try to get this season kicked off proper. So Iowa State's ready to rock as Thundar and NDSU's Bison pull into town. Did Thundar's boys have enough lightning to smite Iowa State? Yeah, if you call doubling up North Dakota State as smiting the Cyclones. (34-17; IOWA STATE)

Bloomington, Indiana - Hoosiers Try to Defend Home Ground from Some Colonels
* Eastern Kentucky {Colonels} at Indiana {Hoosiers}
State Farm is based in Bloomington, Indiana. Maybe Eastern Kentucky could use State Farm because the Colonels crashed and burned as the Hoosiers picked up the win. (19-13; INDIANA)

Salt Lake City, Utah - Utes Seek Victory Against Utah's Sorriest Football School
* Utah State {Utes} at #19 Utah {Utes}
I'm not going to use the "Rivalry" tag anymore, but I will make reference to rivals. The Aggies of Logan, Utah's Utah State University is the worst FBS football team in Utah, looking way up at Utah and BYU. The Utes are looking to start strong. Mission accomplished[/I]. (35-17; #19 UTAH)

Kent, Ohio - Golden Flashes Meet One of South Carolina's Best Football Programs
* Coastal Carolina {Chanticleers} at Kent State {Golden Flashes}
The name of the school is Kent State University. No, Kent is not short for "Kentucky." This is Kent, Ohio. Their team is the Golden Flashes. They'll be taking on the Chanticleers from Coastal Carolina. It's vague when you call yourself "Carolina," when not specifying North or South Carolina. But CCU are based in Conway, South Carolina. The ride back to Conway wasn't a pleasant one, scoring no points at all. (18-0; KENT STATE)

Bowling Green, Ohio - Are Trojan Horses Any Good Against Birds?
* Troy {Trojans} at Bowling Green State {Falcons}
Let's go elsewhere in the Buckeye State. More importantly, Bowling Green, Ohio. The Falcons are the favorite fowl of Bowling Green, Ohio. They'll host the Troy (formerly Troy State) Trojans from Troy, Alabama. This team is full of surprises and will do anything to pick up a big win. The Falcons flew all over Troy like buzzards and vultures in the desert. (31-14; BOWLING GREEN STATE)

Division FCS Scores
Source: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/scoreboard?&w=1&y=2009&c=iaa_all
Remember, it's the home team that determines where scores go. An FCS school playing at an FBS school will be in the FBS scores. A few scores here, then I'll run down some more scores.

Murray, Kentucky - Bluegrass State Pride on the Line
* Kentucky Wesleyan {Panthers} at Murray State {Racers}
The Racers of Murray State overtook and lapped the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers several times. (66-10; MURRAY STATE)

Huntsville, Texas - Bearkats Want to Take WIU to the Woodshed[/B}
* Western Illinois {Leathernecks} at Sam Houston State {Bearkats}
I was considering Sam Houston State University when looking for colleges. But, I do cheer them on in all their athletics. The Bearkats will try to tame a few puppies from Illinois. The Leathernecks of Western Illinois tried to show dogs are ALWAYS better than cats... and Western Illinois was right. (35-28; Western Illinois)

Now for a quick rundown, with some early vote-getters for "OWNAGE OF THE WEEK."

* Quincy at Southeast Missouri State (72-3; SOUTHEAST MISSOURI STATE)
* Iowa Wesleyan at Tennessee-Martin (56-0; TENNESSEE-MARTIN)
* William Penn at South Dakota (52-0; SOUTH DAKOTA)

* Illinois State at Eastern Illinois (31-6; EASTERN ILLINOIS)
* Dixie State at Southern Utah (36-7; SOUTHERN UTAH)
* St. Cloud State at Maine (34-27, OT; MAINE)
* Glenville State at Chattanooga (30-13; CHATTANOOGA)

Division 2 Scores
Source: http://www.d2football.com/scores/2009-09-03

The NCAA Division 2 Game of the Week was on CBS College Sports. So I'll start with this game.

Duluth, Minnesota - Flawless Last Season, Start of a New Season...
* #9 Central Washington {Wildcats} at #2 Minnesota-Duluth {Bulldogs}
The Bulldogs of Minnesota-Duluth were unbeaten in the regular season and in the playoffs to become D2 champions. Now, the Central Washington Wildcats come to town to meet Minnesota's best D2 school. Albeit in somewhat controversial fashion late, the Wildcats pulled the stunner that knocked out Minnesota-Duluth. The controversy was in that the referees had a poor time wasting the clock late in spotting the ball. In the end, it was CWU winning this game and ending the winning streak Minnesota-Duluth built up. (13-10; #9 Central Washington)

Now for a host of other scores from Thursday night...

* #7 Northwest Missouri State at Southeast Baptist (49-14; #7 Northwest Missouri State)
* Findlay at Tiffin (35-13; Findlay)
* Missouri S&T at Central Missouri (50-13; CENTRAL MISSOURI)
* Minnesota-Crookston at Mayville State (47-21; Minnesota-Crookston)
* Harding at West Alabama (33-19; WEST ALABAMA)

Division 3 Scores
Source: http://www.d3football.com/schedule/2009/1.html

Only three games. Let's see who won the three matches.

* SUNY-Maritime at Massachusetts Maritime (31-14; State University of New York-Maritime)
* Trine at Manchester (16-14; Trine)

* Anderson (Division 3) played at Independent school, Taylor... and Taylor won 31-16 against Anderson.

John's Student Lounge
GTPlanet University back with the Fall Semester. Just one thing I want to point out... I'm not going to do "Biggest win" and "Most disappoitning loss" anymore. Instead, I'll leave it up to you to point out the biggest wins and most disappointing losses. I'm doing this to get more involvement from fans on here.

More games in all four divisions coming up for Friday night. Check back in for scores, or comment away about college football. You can ask me some questions, make some comments, and that sort of thing. Get involved, GTPlanet! You love college football and want to show it? I've provided the home for which to do so.

Apparently, there was some fallout from the Boise State vs. Oregon game. One of the Ducks threw a punch to the jaw of a Boise State player. It will be interesting to see what becomes of this.

More games slated for tonight! I'll actually transition from my Texans' final preseason game and college football. If you want to chime in on the punch thrown by Oregon at Boise State, feel free to do so.

This just in- Oregon RB, LaGarrette Blount, suspended for the rest of the season after throwing a punch to Boise State's DE, Byron Hout last night.

A few games slated for later tonight include Tulsa at Tulane. This game, and more, will be covered in my next report. So be sure to check in to this thread when it's done!

That punch seemed to have started from something the Boise State player said. Then, the Oregon guy threw the sucker punch at him. This post will be updated with scores from Friday night.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So a bunch of guys wear some helmets, put on some shoulder pads, laced up their shoes, and played on the grass at night. It's a sport called football. And that's what tonight's all about- Friday Night Lights... college style!

Division FBS Scores

New Orleans, Louisiana - Fledgling Green Wave Try to Start Anew
* Tulsa {Golden Hurricane} at Tulane {Green Wave}
This game has an eerie feel to it. Around this time back in 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, including the Louisiana Superdome. Tulsa's Golden Hurricane is ready to take on Tulane. Tulane University is going through some financial trouble as of late, but the Green Wave know that anything's possible if they believe in themselves and play with honor and courage. Tulsa never trailed as the Oklahoma school tamed their C-USA counterpart. (37-13; Tulsa)

NOTE: Boise State will meet Tulsa later this season. Should be an interesting matchup.

There was another game, Central Arkansas at Hawaii. I may update this post with results of this game. But the last I checked, Central Arkansas was leading 14-9 with 4:14 left in the 2nd Quarter.

Division FCS Scores

* #24 Otterbein at Bethany
* #4 North Central-IL at Ohio Northern
* #19 Franklin at Baldwin-Wallace
* #1 Mount Union at St. John Fisher

John's Student Lounge
If you didn't see my latest post before this one, I noted that Blount (Oregon, RB) became suspended for the rest of the season for throwing a punch at Boise State DE, Hoyt after Oregon's 8-19 loss. Blount even went into the stands and mixed some things up in Boise with the fans. Action against the BoSU player hasn't yet been determined/finalized.

The air quality concerns at the Rose Bowl for UCLA and San Diego State will not be a problem. So the game at the Rose Bowl between UCLA and San Diego State will go on as planned even with the wildfire threat. By the way... I hope they find out whoever did this, because the fires were sent intentionally in Los Angeles county.

Remember that when I do my Winners and Losers, I want to leave winners and losers up to you. Let me know what teams you think got the biggest win and which took the most disappointing loss. I'll supplement the upset and ownage of the week nominations. But I need you to get involved and let me know who were YOUR biggest winners and losers.

Go out to a game, GTPlanet! Cheer on your favorite team(s) and tailgate like you mean it!

I don't think NBC could be more biased for ND. I don't think they have even mentioned one Nevada player without turning it into a discussion about a ND player.

Hey, guys! Let me share a few winners from today's games (home team wins in CAPS):

A Few Winners So Far...
* Kentucky
* PENNSYLVANIA STATE
* OHIO STATE
* Minnesota (OT)

Coming up (among others):
* BYU vs. Oklahoma on ESPN
* Alabama vs. Virginia Tech on ABC
* Louisiana Tech at Auburn on ESPNU
* Charleston Southern at Florida on Fox Sports Southwest

Full report in the next post!

U of M took home a big win today too. 31-7, I was hoping for a shut out but it was a big win never the less. Michigan looked really good and it look like they did a lot of work in the off season to shake some of the demons that haunted them last year.

I'm excited about the season now, I foresee good things coming from the boys in blue.

Michigan State looks like they did decently well too, although I don't really follow them all that much.

Oh and I found it really funny Ohio State almost got their backside handed to them by Navy. I wish they would have lost, that would have been awesome. Oh well, maybe this is a sign of things to come from them.

This is what you've waited for since the final game of this past season- the return of Saturday football! I may not be the man with the master plan, but I got your collegiate fix across all four divisions of NCAA football. If you're on GTPlanet and love college football (or at least watch it), I've supplemented my weekly threads on each week of football.

Please note that I go by CALENDAR weeks, not by what's considered a football week. So games on Sunday and Monday will be covered in next week's thread. Whatever game goes where depends on who the home team is. If it's an NCAA team playing at a non-NCAA school, I'll make note of it at the end of each score report. Something else I may start doing is feature a few games, then display other conference action. For example, I could show a sample game between Michigan State and Wisconsin, then feature other Big Ten games in almost rapid fire fashion. Here is a sample:

--- SAMPLE ---
Madison, Wisconsin - ...
* Michigan State {Spartans} at Wisconsin {Badgers}
... (xx-xx; MSU/UWM)

Other Big Ten Scores:
* Penn State at Michigan (-; )
* Illinois at Indiana (-; )
* Ohio State at Minnesota (-; )

Division FBS Scores

I've picked two GAMES OF THE WEEK. One supplements a video I did, and the other is the most intriguing matchup of the week. The first report of the first Saturday of 2009 will begin in Texas. I'll also focus on neutral field games to start off this report in FBS. So let's do this!

Arlington, Texas - BYU and Oklahoma Wish to Conclude the Game Without the Huge Scoreboard Giving an Assist
* #20 BYU {Cougars} vs. #3 Oklahoma {Sooners} --- GAME OF THE WEEK 1 of 2 ---
I've never been to Dallas. NEVER. Standing tall in all of its glory is the scoreboard at the new Cowboys Stadium... I mean, the Cowboys Stadium itself. It could seat over 100,000 people. And if 100K packed this place, which will play host to the Men's NCAA Division 1 Final Four in a few years, then 100K will feast their eyes on a very intriguing match. Hip hop artist, Bonecrusher, may have said, "I ain't never scared!" Well, I was nervous after making my pick. As a highly unqualified sports analyst, I made an interesting pick, as this video of mine demonstrates:

-from April 20, 2009

That video is my third video to reach 1K views. It's also the most discussed video of mine at present. Even though I'm supposed to remain neutral, part of me wants (my pick) to win so that I don't look like a dope for picking the wrong team. I'm typing this early Saturday morning, so at least you know that I'm looking at this match with a bit of skepticism. The Cougars of BYU are looking to stun the Oklahoma Sooners on ESPN. Brad Nessler and Todd Blackledge had the call for this match. Let's get it on. Sam Bradford had a right shoulder injury heading into the end of the first half. It was 10-7 in favor of the crimson and cream (Oklahoma, in case you didn't know) after a half hour of game play. BYU pulled the upset, as I predicted. But damn... it was close!!! My heart was pounding, I felt like I was out of breath, I was nervous as crap... but BYU pulled it off for the win! (14-13; #20 Brigham Young)

Atlanta, Georgia - Falcons' Country Lends Their Nest to Two
* Alabama {Crimson Tide} vs. Virginia Tech {Hokies} --- GAME OF THE WEEK 2 OF 2 ---
Welcome to Atlanta where the players play and tackle fools like every day. Ain't no foolin' around in the ATL when you got a nice SEC vs. ACC clash like in this game on ABC. The Hokies of Virginia Tech couldn't withstand the Crimson Tide. (34-24; #5 Alabama)

St. Louis, Missouri - The Gateway to Midwestern Supremacy Begins in St. Louis
* Missouri {Tigers} vs. Illinois {Fighting Illini}
St. Louis is home to Saint Louis University, a non-football school. It's also home to Washington University in St. Louis. My Houston Texans will play at St. Louis this season against FoolKiller's Rams later this season in the NFL. But today, it's all about college. And this game was all about Missouri. So much for this year's match being the time Illinois finally overtakes Mizzou. (37-9; Missouri)

Cincinnati, Ohio - Kentucky Seeks Another Bowl Game Bid
* Kentucky {Wildcats} vs. Miami University {Redhawks}
New season for my GTP friend, FoolKiller. Talking about his 'cats. Let's go from St. Louis to Cincinnati. You actually have to land at an airport in northern Kentucky, then make your way into Cincinnati. Kentucky didn't have to travel too far. The Lexington, KY-based University of Kentucky will see their Wildcats feast on some birds. No, not Louisville (not yet)... but some other redbirds. I'm talking about the Redhawks of Miami University. They're a good team, but haven't been a great team since Ben Roethlisberger (who's one of my favorite quarterbacks in the NFL) was under center. Miami U. doesn't have Roethlisberger; Kentucky doesn't have Andre' Woodson. Didn't need him. Kentucky put up six touchdowns to leave Cincy with a lopsided win. (42-0; Kentucky)

Next Five Games for Kentucky:
9/19 - Louisville
9/26 - #1 Florida
10/3 - #5 Alabama
10/10 - at South Carolina
10/17 - at Auburn

Ouch! That's a brutal schedule right there!

Now let's look at some other games across the nation.

Syracuse, New York - Greg Paulus Leaves Duke Basketball for Syracuse Football... Good Decision?
* Minnesota {Golden Gophers} at Syracuse {Orange}
Greg Paulus left Duke basketball to go into back to QB action. So he left Blue Devils' basketball (find out how Duke did against Richmond later in this report) for Orange football. The one-time National Champions at Syracuse wants to see the Carrier Dome, their all-in-one athletics home, see Minnesota go down. That didn't happen. Minnesota won in Overtime, but just one game doesn't define Greg Paulus under center. (23-20, OT; Minnesota)

Ann Arbor, Michigan - Rich Rodriguez in the Hotseat... Can His Wolverines Perform?
* Western Michigan {Broncos} at Michigan {Wolverines}
Time to chat with my GTPlanet and Facebook friend, Joey D, as a new season in the Big House is coming up. WMU and Michigan are pretty good hockey opponents. But here, it's all about playing on grass in the Detroit suburb of Ann Arbor. I'd like to equate Michigan trying to develop the spread offense like preparing a race car. A race team can keep working on a race car and developing it, but will never really see the real promise of the car without sufficient testing and with a driver that can harness the car's capabilities. That's what Michigan's Wolverines are doing. They have their hypothetical race car (not their lovely Formula SAE team), but still need development to turn that race car into a winning machine. The Broncos of Western Michigan, however, are looking to exploit Michigan's weaknesses and give them a run for their money. Michigan is no longer a lock for BCS Bowl games. However, they're willing to play their way to respectability. So good so far. The Wolverines hammered Western Michigan and sent the Broncos packing. (31-7; MICHIGAN)

South Bend, Indiana - Time to Meet Expectations, Notre Dame...
* Nevada {Wolfpack} at #23 Notre Dame {Fighting Irish}
The University of Notre Dame may well be the most recognizable and most popular university in the nation. Not to mention maybe the most famous Catholic university in America. The gold domers are ready to get things started. The Fighting Illini are spoilin' for a fight- a fight to show they should be among the National Championship contenders. At least ESPN's Lou Holtz has Notre Dame in the title game. That BCS National Championship game dream begins against Nevada. Nevada's official name is the University of Nevada-Reno. Reno, Nevada is dubbed as the "Biggest Little City in the World." That little city has a Wolfpack team with big dreams. Think of it more like the small town team dreaming big. This team used to play in the Big Sky Conference years ago before joining the FBS ranks. I think they were conference champions too. Bring on the game! Nevada was no match. Upset denied.. (35-0; #23 NOTRE DAME)

Columbus, Ohio - The Horseshoe is Ready for a New Season
* Navy {Midshipmen} at #6 Ohio State {Buckeyes}
Michigan's best friends, Ohio State (sarcasm), started up their season. They did it in the Ohio's capital city and home of the Buckeye Nation- Columbus, Ohio. The Midshipmen are going to give the Buckeyes a sampling of Navy firepower. Not even a battleship could have sank Ohio State's battleship because despite a scare[/I]. (31-27; #6 OHIO STATE)

Iowa City, Iowa - Hawkeyes Take on a Capable In-State Foe
* Northern Iowa {Panthers} at #22 Iowa {Hawkeyes}
Welcome to the state of Iowa. It's the state below Minnesota and above Missouri on the map. It's America's Heartland with one of the Midwest's finest teams ready to do battle at Kinnick Stadium. The Hawkeyes of the University of Iowa are set to throw down proper on the gridiron. Coming to Kinnick Stadium is the University of Northern Iowa. UNI is based in Des Moines, Iowa, and home to one of the best universities in almost any sport. Their football is good, their basketball is good, they are pretty good in wrestling too. But can the Panthers down the Hawkeyes? They almost did. Key word= ALMOST. Iowa survives a scare. Maybe something's in the water in the Midwest. (17-16; #22 IOWA)

Knoxville, Tennessee - Kiffin Gets to Work Finally
* Neyland Stadium is where this throwdown begins. Lane Kiffin has been in the news for all of the wrong reasons. Can his Volunteers make some nice noise when WKU comes to town? FoolKiller's former school, Western Kentucky University, made the trip to Knoxville from Bowling Green, Kentucky. Corvettes may be assembled in Bowling Green, but WKU's offense didn't have a thundering V8 to take down Tennessee, as they left WKU in the dust like a V12 supercar. (63-7; TENNESSEE)

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - The Steel City Kitties Ready to Rock Heavy Metal Style Against Some Penguins
* Youngstown State {Penguins} at Pittsburgh {Penguins}
I'll have you know... I've never played Rock Band. Never played Guitar Hero. In fact, I'm not much a rock music person anyways. There's metal, then there's the Steel City. And Pittsburgh's ready to rock against Youngstown State. The Panthers tuned up the band and are ready to rock out the show. The Penguins of Youngstown State were the main feast for some hungry and vicious Panthers. Even the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins could have fared better than Youngstown State's Penguins. As the end of a song in Rock Band or Guitar Hero goes- YOU ROCK! And in this case, Pittsburgh rocked. (38-3; PITTSBURGH)

Los Angeles, California - Trojans Reload for '09
* San Jose State {Spartans} at USCal {Trojans}
Some teams replenish their roster with new players. USCal just reloads. It's like getting a refill of your favorite drink. The Trojans are in a battle the ancient Greeks would love. It's the Trojans and Spartans (of San Jose State). The Trojans just trojan horsed the Spartans like it was nothing. (56-3; SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA)

Winston-Salem, North Carolina - Wake Up! Wake Forest Ready to Roll
* Baylor {Bears} at Wake Forest {Demon Deacons}
The Baylor Bears aren't sorry anymore! They took out Wake Forest at Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons didn't have the magic to tame the Bears. (24-21; Baylor)

Charlottesville, Virginia - William and Mary Looks to Show Up an In-State Foe
* William and Mary {Tribe} at Virginia {Cavaliers}
Elsewhere in the ACC, let's look at the Virginia Cavaliers. These Cavaliers, unlike the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers, are nowhere near a powerhouse. It's going to be a rough ride if they get shown up by the Tribe of the College of William and Mary. Virginia is the new Duke, falling on their faces to a talented William and Mary squad. Way to represent the ACC, Virginia. (26-14; William and Mary)

Seattle, Washington - Huskies Get a Taste of Louisiana Cooking
* #11 LSU {Tigers} at Washington {Huskies}
Welcome to beautiful Seattle, Washington. It's home to the University of Washington. Seattle is home to the Seahawks, Mariners, and formerly... the home of the Supersonics. The Huskies will play at their beautiful Husky Stadium with such a wonderful backdrop. The LSU Tigers come into the Pacific Northwest to give Washington a little tussle. LSU brought their Louisiana-style cooking to the Pacific Northwest, and continued Washington's losing streak, now at 18 games. (31-23; #11 Louisiana State)

Birmingham, Alabama - Rice Faces an Early Conference USA Test
* Rice {Owls} at UAB {Blazers}
The Blazers burned up Rice's Owls in a not-even-close deal. (44-24; ALABAMA-BIRMINGHAM)

Houston, Texas - Cougars Don't Want to Look Ahead to Oklahoma State Next Week
* Northwestern State {Demons} at Houston {Cougars}
Really. Did you think I'd go one post without talking about my hometown's best team? This year's Houston squad got some national love as some picked them to be among the 25 best teams in the nation. Of course, more like in the 20-25 range. They've been picked to win Conference USA, or at least C-USA West. The Cougars' drive for respectability begins tonight as they host the Southland Conference's Northwestern State Demons. The school from Louisiana holds this Texas/Louisiana battle. The Demons were exorcised by the Cougars and their awesome firepower. This was a cakewalk, but next week... AT Oklahoma State. (55-7; HOUSTON)

Now let's look at various other scores.
* Stanford at Washington State (39-13; Stanford)
* Towson at Northwestern (47-14; NORTHWESTERN)
* Toledo at Purdue (52-31; PURDUE)
* Appalachian State (29-24; EAST CAROLINA
* Montana at Michigan State (44-3; MICHIGAN STATE)

* Jacksonville State at #15 Georgia Tech (37-17; #15 GEORGIA TECH)
* Portland State at Oregon State (34-7; OREGON STATE))
* Northeastern at Boston College (54-0; BOSTON COLLEGE) <<< Northeastern could drop their football program due to financial issues.
* Louisiana-Monroe at #2 Texas (59-20; #2 TEXAS)
* Richmond at Duke (24-16; Richmond)

Division FCS Scores

Let's begin in my hometown.

Houston, Texas - Texas' Only Two Division 1 HBCUs Clash for State Pride
* Prairie View A&M {Panthers} vs. Texas Southern {Tigers}
Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern play for state pride in the Labor Day Classic. Today is obviously not Labor Day, but the Labor Day Classic is the battle of pride among the Prairie View A&M Panthers and Texas Southern. Texas Southern doesn't have to travel too far for the Tigers to play at Reliant Stadium. State pride on the line between two

Durham, New Hampshire - Red Flash Look to Knock Out Some Feisty Wildcats
* Saint Francis (PA) {Red Flashes} at New Hampshire {Wildcats}
Durham, North Carolina is home to Duke University. Durham, New Hampshire is home to the University of New Hampshire. It's the only Division 1 school in New Hampshire. The Wildcats are hoping to give the Red Flashes of St. Francis University some hot flashes. New Hampshire handled business the way only New Hampshire knows how. (24-14; NEW HAMPSHIRE)

That's all for this post. My upset and ownage picks are coming up! Remember, YOU now call what the biggest wins and losses are from this week. I'll provide some scores to help you out, but it's now up to you to call the biggest win and biggest loss of each week!

John's Winners and Losers

Remember, I need your input to determine the big winners and losers each week. It's an initiate I've taken to try to get more people involved in college football discussion. And after each week, I'll find a song I like to post for your enjoyment to either cap off the week or just show off a cool song.

No big wins or big losses from me, because this is all up to you this season to determine. So it's on to upsets and ownage.

John's Upset of the Week is...
...(Division FBS) #20 Brigham Young def. #3 Oklahoma!

I know #2 Minnesota-Duluth lost to #9 Central Washington, but I'm counting this match as the Upset of the Week because nobody wants to start the season with a huge loss. This was not a revenue game. It was a huge game at a brand-new stadium. It was a fantastic contest.

John's Ownage of the Week is...
...(Division 2) New Mexico Highlands OWNED 82-21 at Washburn!

Winning by eight touchdowns and change will more than likely get you my OWNAGE OF THE WEEK honors. This was one heck of a beatdown.

Remember, I want YOU to give me YOUR biggest winners and losers each week this season including postseason play. It's Saturday night into Sunday morning, so here's your fix. I found this video for you to check out. Check my signature to visit my YouTube channel, but you're free to check this out. I'm inspired by the upset BYU gave Oklahoma for this pick. Oklahoma was #3 in the nation heading into this game. With that ranking about to go, it almost feels like Oklahoma's chances to finish strong almost seem out the window. They were number #3 in the nation... now that ranking's gone. Or just let this song say it all:

^ "Now You're Gone," by Basshunter

Next week's thread will come along either Sunday afternoon or Sunday night. Take care, everyone! By the way... Hawaii beat Central Arkansas 25-20 on Friday night.

The scarlet and grey survived a scare :nervous: from the Navy Midshipmen.Not sure if they were looking past this to get on to next weeks huge battle with the USC Trojans,but they have to get it together or it could be a rough one.

Michigan Wolverines - every squirrel gets a nut now and then,I'd be real proud of a blowout victory against a sub par team as well.Wait until they hit the heart of their Big 10 schedule.:ouch:

You do realise Western Michigan has a good football team and could have easily won that game right? They are far from a sub par team.

Yeah - for a MAC conference team their good.

MAC -vs- Big 10. It's never all that interesting,but it's all for the money for the schools involved,especially the sub conference team .

JOEY - it's cool to see that probably the biggest college football rivalry lives on,even here on GTPlanet.👍

Good luck to the Wolverines and all the Big 10 teams.👍

Scarlet and grey - all the way

Oh, Western Michigan is VERY talented. They are actually my favorite non-BCS school Michigan, only looking up at Central Michigan. If you're trying to rebuild a storied program like Michigan, a win against Western Michigan is not a bad way to go.

My biggest winners and losers (if I had to pick):
WIN: I'm going to vote on Baylor's win at Wake Forest. That's a big win for Art Briles, former University of Houston coach. Awesome job by the Bears.

LOSE: I'm going to vote the 26-14 loss Virginia took to the College of William and Mary.

Share your winners and losers, if you so oblige.
