I just found out how fast the Hennesey Venom F5 is... It's so fast it actually caused a 10-fps drop on my PC! :scared: And the highway speed zone/speed trap has a new record.
It is my go-to car for all the 998p weekly speed traps/zones & jumps. Got an ofroad tune for it too so it can do the dirty bits as well.
 
I got the Mercedes-AMG Hammer Wagon last night and WOW does it make a proper noise! It sounds soo dirty and muscular, not unlike an old-fashioned that V8 you'd find in an American muscle car. I turned off the music just so I could hear it properly. I haven't done that with any car before! I'm not going back to Motorsport ever again. Forza Horizon 5 is perfect for screwing around and having some fun with an unmatched array of vehicles that are soo much more enjoyable to drive than anything in Forza Motorsport. I can enjoy rally cars like the Audi Quattro, electric hypercars like the Pinninfarina Battista, old grand prix racers like the Auto Union Type D, track weapons like the Lamborghini Essenza and performance sedans like the BMW M5. I don't care if it isn't a "sim" per se because I honestly think this game nails the fundamentals like GT7. It captures the feeling of each car without any of the annoying little quirks they may have in a full-on simulator. Forza Horizon offers soo much compared to the likes of Need For Speed, The Crew and Test Drive.
 
So today we get the new M5 CS. It does look a bit fatter than the old one, but first impressions are it drives nicely. I will no doubt race it plenty in the coming time. It has very good launch even stock...

The eventlab island one in the playlist this week was somewhat insane. Weaving around and jumping down onto the road felt more like an arcade racer than Forza, but I appreciated all those bends to drift the retro Japanese sports car that I was using (Supra iirc).

I liked the environment but the track itself wasn't very fun. The second one around Guanajato just sucked, the walls constantly grab you and it's very annoying.

The M5CS is not bad though, thankfully we can paint the naff copper trim that just doesn't go well with any color.
 

Forza Horizon 5​

Never thought we could dribble around the roads of the Horizon Festival in a car like the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Jordan Luka 3 Motorsport Edition, but 2024 was a year with a ton of surprises coming to Forza Horizon 5 that we hope you enjoyed and will keep enjoying while adventuring through Mexico.

We kicked off the year with Community Choice, a content update done partially with members of our community. Our players got the chance to vote which cars, features, and decorations they wanted to see back into the game. The votes were tallied, and the result was a series filled with neon lights at Aeródromo en la Selva, 16 returning stunts, 10 reward cars added to the Autoshow, and a Festival Playlist packed with European Exotics.

That’s not the only time our community came together for an update. Back in March, the Horizon Race-off went live. This update gave our players a collaborative goal: complete street and off-road racing events to unlock two cars for the entire community! A new traveling outpost made its way to the Horizon Festival this series too. The Race-Off Outpost showed players progress on both the street and off-roading challenges, but the best part of this new feature is that it changed its location every week allowing players to explore the map to find it.

Two months after the Race-Off, a wave of retro vibes took over the Horizon Festival with Horizon Retrowave. This content update featured a new start screen players saw (and many chose as their favorite) as soon as the game booted with the update. The Retrowave wasn’t only about the looks, but also the sounds. Forza Horizon 5 welcomed a new synthwave radio station: Horizon Wave. Hosted by Isabel Moss, the new station featured 21 new songs including a streamer friendly “Encanto Remix” by Mitch Murder.

An exciting new game mode came to Forza Horizon 5 this year on the Hidden Horizons update along with all the cars and content: Hide & Seek. This new 5v1 experience had players enjoy a thrilling game of chase between two teams. 5 players joined the game as the Seekers whose job is to find and stay close to the Hider in order to fill their meter. If the meter reached 100% before time runs out or before the Seeker reaches their destination, they took home the win! On the other side, Hiders had to use the environment and NPC cars to cover themselves and stay hidden from the Seekers until the End Zone location was revealed to all players. When the End Zone is revealed, their mission becomes to reach that location before Hiders complete their meter. The following game update, Back to the 90’s, gave players the opportunity to unlock accolades and achievements related to Hide & Seek. We hope you still enjoy hiding and chasing as much as we have!

EventLab creators had a great time this year with all the props added to the game ranging from coffee cups, racing decorations, highways, elevation pieces, and of course the new Halo props that came in the Horizon Track Day. Our largest Prop Pack ever featured 71 pieces with iconic structures from the Halo franchise such as the Covenant Barricade, UNSC Barricade, Covenant Drop Pod, Energy Shield, Covenant Crate, UNSC Pelican, and more. Most of these pieces came directly from Halo Studios, bringing them right out of Forge Mode and into the Horizon Festival. Three songs from Halo’s OST were also added to the game during this series to FH5’s radio stations. Horizon XS now plays the Halo Theme Gungnir Mix (feat. Steve Vai) and Radio Eterna added Installation 04 and The Trails to its catalogue.

Forza Horizon 5 saw an amazing set of car packs with a large variety of cars, including EVs, superstar racers, pop culture icons, and more. One of our community’s favorites was the Universal Icons Car Pack, which included 5 cars from TV shows and movies: 3 versions of the Back to the Future Time Machine with movie-like lights and sounds, the 1982 Universal Studios K.I.T.T. (featuring the Super Pursuit Bodykit), and the iconic 1992 Universal Studios Jeep Wrangler Sahara ‘Jurassic Park.’

What's Next?​

In the grand scheme of time, 2024’s coming and going marks 19 years since the release of the very first Forza game. That’s right—2025 is Forza’s 20th anniversary, and we’re planning some fun activities and surprises for the whole Forza community next year.

The EventLabs were pretty good for me and I added Crimson Lanes to my favourites.

The Trial also went well as this week's shady rammer managed only to take out the AI in my path before missing a checkpoint and disappearing giving the rest of us a clear run to the finish. My 2016 911 GT3 RS eventually ended up sharing first places with a very fast individual in a Carrera GT. The only guy who brought a Nissan to the Porsche race also noped out after one race after coming dead last.

I'm betting they're going to tease Horizon 6 ON the anniversary date.
One can hope. Though, if taking more time to work on FH6 means we don't get another drab/sparse map like FH5's, I'm in favor of not seeing them either then or at Xbox's rumored January event.

I think the bronze trim on the new M5 CS looks fantastic, especially with the factory green paint.

May 3rd, on the typical release timeline, that seems like a pretty good shout.
Actually, that lines up pretty well. If we extrapolate the runtime of each Series based on what Horizon Extreme will run through:

Horizon Extreme: 1/2 - 1/30
Midnight Muscle: 1/30 - 2/27
Series 43: 2/27 - 3/27
Series 44: 3/27 - 4/24
Series 45 (Forza Anniversary/Apex Allstars Remix): 4/24 - 5/15

They'll probably try to theme an entire Series around the 20th anniversary rather than do a gift-out, though I have no idea what they'll actually do for it--for all I know it'll probably just be a remix of Apex Allstars or Horizon Race-Off, or even just run everything in FM2023. We're already at the point now where we won't know for sure how many new cars we're going to get, after all.
 
Speaking of FH6:


I gave this a watch last night. HokiHoshi's wish list seems reasonable to me but there seem to be a lot of entitled people in the comments. One guy said he got bored of FH5 within a few minutes because there were no cop chases. Personally, in three years of play I've never felt the need to pretend to be a criminal. A better EventLab would allow people to create such an experience if they needed it but I don't think some of the licensed manufacturers would be happy with having GTA-style minigames in the main game.

Another complainant thinks that because his shooter games give him access to maps from previous versions that Horizon should provide all the previous countries for free. I don't think it's as simple as that.

I've even seen people asking them to make the off road physics harder to drive because it's more realistic. Sounds like they're missing the point of a casual arcade game to me.

FH has garnered a large enough player base, that the wishlists for future games expect it to go in several (potentially) contradicting directions. And comment sections are pretty much the usual extremes.

PGG only has to address the structural complaints (eg. multiplayer, sounds, map, customization, FOMO) and they're free to cook up an FH game to their vision.
 
I just wish they'd at least rework the Accolade mechanic to be more in line with FH4's progression. I get that it allowed for more player freedom than prior games but I don't want to have to be yoinked out of free roam and forced to start a Horizon Story or an Expedition just because I unlocked an achievement.

Heck, while we're talking about it, go back to a silent protagonist and have the writing be more like FH4's, period. 5's insistence on speaking protagonist has... honestly kinda forced PG to write stories with morals for kids and I feel like they aren't executed super-well even by those standards. Only the Expeditions really held much weight for me.

I can't imagine the amount of space one would need to have those 4 maps playable, not to mention the work the dev team would have to do to bring them up to current standards with seasons a thing now. I think the map design has also gotten better & better each game, and it'd probably be pretty noticeable going from FH5 to FH1's Colorado map.

They're great games, but they should be left as they were.

They're great games, but they should be left as they were.
I could imagine something like Halo's Master Chief collection with a central hub and individual installs for all the maps/content. Fully installed it would easily be north of 300 GB!
