If your Gamecocks can beat 'Bama, I'll go out and buy an SC jersey and wear it for a week.

Like I said we did it in 2010 when they had Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson. Marcus Lattimore rushed for more yards than them combined. Bama can't stop a team that has good receivers and can get wide on them. Auburn in 2010, Sc in 2010, LSU and Georgia almost got them last year and A&M did get them.

I know from the outside looking in it probably looks like I'm being cocky or arrogant but the reality is they aren't that much better than Georgia SC Florida or LSU. So from my point of view they seem extremely beatable. That being said they are great and Saban is an amazing coach, I look forward to playing and beating them in Atlanta in December!👍

Oh and I'm holding you to that! haha you should get a 7 when you buy one in December frame it and sell it in 15 years when Clowney is in the CFB Hall of Fame.

Speaking of Texas A&M, I am curious to see how the Aggies do this upcoming season with "Johnny Football" and company. I've honestly never seen better from Texas A&M than this past season. It is probably tough to say that leaving the Big XII has given Texas A&M the chance to be their own beast. What I hate is that the Texas vs. Texas A&M rivalry is no more.

I sometimes think of South Carolina in the SEC kind of like Texas A&M's former days in the Big XII or Purdue in the Big Ten. South Carolina usually seems like a middle-of-the-road team. You never know if South Carolina will actually emerge. I do like the Gamecocks' chances of being if not the favorite, a favorite in the SEC. Wouldn't it warm the heart of a University of South Carolina fan to be better than that other South Carolina team (Clemson)? The Gamecocks will be fun to watch for sure.

We've drug Clemson through the mud 4 years in a row!👍 Still far behind in the overall standings with them but I think for now we've passed them and the ACC is garbage anyway.

I agree with you 100% though A&M coming to the SEC instantly made them that much better and I knew it...not because of the SEC logo but because they can tell the best Texas kids (probably the best Football state for high school football...actually the best who am I kidding) we will play LSU Alabama and (assuming we continue to climb) South Carolina every single year. Where else can you go and play that many big time games? I'm worried that A&M will run the SEC some day soon.

Also I was really shocked that they don't play Texas anymore either. We play Clemson OOC every year...though they aren't as prestigious as Texas I wonder what the reasoning was? I wouldn't be shocked if that rivalry started back in the next 5-10 years.

Nah, your not being cocky or arrogant, just being honest.

Indeed, they are good, and Nick Saban is one hell of a coach. Cudos to him.

I said it, and I would honestly follow up on it. Yes, I will look for #7 as well. Where does one buy an SC jersey at in N.E. Ohio ?

A quickie story ...
A friend of mine (Michigan Wolverine fan) and I have had a bet going on for several years now. Who ever loses the OSU -vs- Michigan game has to go out in public for a week and wear the other teams jersey. Yes, I've worn the Maize and Blue :irked:. So wearing Black and Red is no biggie. ;)

I think A&M will be just fine this year. Johnny football ... what an athlete, good guy for sure.

Ahh unfortunately I've had to wear ugly ass Orange and Purple:tdown:

We can be friends until the season starts because we both beat they Gayz (joking) in blue! Clowney almost killed one of them!

Do you possibly think South Carolina could be National Championship contenders, or do the Gamecocks need more pieces to become National Title contenders? Is the field maybe too stacked for them to contend with the higher-end teams?

I have 2 different answers, so I'll do them by color!👍

Absolutely I feel like South Carolina will be National Championship contenders. While we do have question marks on D we've had great success at replacing players that leave. Add to that fact that we have all of our hard SEC games at home besides Georgia and I think we will end up winning the East and going to the SEC Title game. If you make that game you're a contender. While it would be nice to have more experienced LBs coming into the year that is my ONLY concern with our team.

The field is absolutely not too stacked for us to contend with the Alabamas and LSUs of the world. As a matter of fact South Carolina has been competitive with those teams since 2009. Since 2010 we've beaten Alabama Michigan Nebraska Georgia Florida Clemson and we've had nail biter games with LSU in Death Valley (only Bama has beaten them at home at night since 2001) and the National Title Auburn team. (Though we choked in the SEC Title game regular season was close) We've won 30 games in the last 3 years only Oregon Bama Stanford and South Carolina can claim that. I think we're right on track to compete for one of these things very soon!!

I'm going to update the OP. It will be kind of a who's who here on GTP and who their supported team is. Just trying to keep tabs on each others team.

If I inadvertently left anyone out, or you want to be added, please let me know. I'll add your name / team into the OP.

Thanks.

I-O (it's an OSU thing)

I can add you to the OP as a fellow Bucks fan if you like. But your from Texas.

Not that it matters though.

Lot going on recently, especially that of SEC Media Days. These Media Day deals are a good opportunity for conferences and schools to look ahead to the new season.

I mentioned Texas A&M long ago. Here is their schedule:

8/31 - Rice
9/7 - Sam Houston State
9/14 - Alabama (remember last year's game in Tuscaloosa?)
9/21 - SMU
9/28 - at Arkansas
10/12 - at Mississippi (Ole Miss)
10/19 - Auburn
10/26 - Vanderbilt
11/2 - UTEP
11/9 - Mississippi State
11/23 - at LSU
11/30 - at Missouri

All I can say is that Kyle Field is going to have the 12th Man in full effect this season. None of TAMU's home games really concern me other than Alabama. Their road schedule? Does it get any tougher than at LSU if you're an SEC team? It is a nice end to the season to have ex-Big XII teams collide when Texas A&M heads up to Columbia to face the Missouri Tigers. Regardless, this schedule still feels incomplete without a showdown agaisnt Texas. Longhorns vs. Aggies- no better rivalry late in the year than Texas and Texas A&M. UT and TAMU need to extend this rivalry in this changing landscape of college sports (let alone college football).

I think Texas A&M will go to a Bowl Game. However, will it be one of the big January bowls... or one of those "who cares?" bowl games? We'll see this season.

Moved to Texas 3 years ago. Grew up a Bucks fan and that will never change. Don't think I will ever be able to support Texas teams either, though I greatly prefer A&M to UT, despite living in Austin.

It doesn't...not only for SEC Teams but any team.👍

I think A&M will have a shot to win the West if they beat LSU or Bama. I think you'll be going to Cotton again, unless you win the West then Sugar.

Let me challenge you a bit here, dcgc5. Let's say the SEC Championship this coming season is Texas A&M vs. South Carolina. Who would win?

Stopping Manizel would be next to impossible and I have no clue what the A&M Defense is like. So I say shoot out but Clowney and Chaz Sutton make enough plays around Manizel that he makes a mistake and SC sneaks by.👍

We match up WAY better for Alabama though the slow paced NFL style offense.

A&M is going to make some noise in the SEC. They will make their presence known. Yes John, I too see the Aggies going to a Major Bowl Game this year. I have only 2 question marks on their '13 schedule.

9/14 @ home -vs- Alabama
(the revenge game for 'Bama ?) A&M had them 20-0 in the 1st quarter last year .... this took Saban and his boys by surprise. Him nor his boys barely caught back up, they made a run, but still lost the game. I'm sure they remember.

11/23 @ LSU
Tough game to be in, this late in the season. Who can / will muster up the energy to walk off victorious in this one. It's gonna be a good one for sure.

Here (IMO) are some very key games to watch for in the SEC this year.

Sept. 7th - South Carolina @ Georgia
Sept. 14th - Alabama @ Texas A&M
Oct. 12th - Florida @ LSU
Nov. 2nd - Georgia @ Florida
Nov. 9th - LSU @ Alabama
Nov. 16th - South Carolina @ Florida

These games winners (I feel), will show you who will be where at the end of the regular season. Honestly, South Carolina cannot be ruled out, they are a viable contender.

The SEC has had its Media Days fun. Now, it's the ACC's turn. I am not real sure who besides Florida State I would take in the ACC this season. I've always considered North Carolina as the best basketball school in football. After last season, it wouldn't be too foolish to put your ACC money on Duke as well. Also, don't forget about that team called Virginia Tech.

Since I'm a University of Houston fan, here's the schedule for my Cougars:

8/30 - Southern
9/7 - at Temple
9/21 - at Rice
9/28 - at Texas-San Antonio
10/12 - Memphis
10/19 - BYU
10/26 - at Rutgers (JohnBM01 vs. Blitz24 special!)
10/31 - South Florida
11/9 - at UCF
11/16 - at Louisville
11/23 - Cincinnati
11/29 - SMU

I don't really know about my Houston Cougars this season. Our new football stadium won't be ready until next season, so we'll be sharing Reliant Stadium with the NFL's Houston Texans. I wouldn't be surprised if the Coogs finish .500 or below this upcoming season. A lot of the teams UH will be taking on are mostly ex members of Conference USA and the old Big East (now the American Athletic Conference). I just don't know what we have to be honest. UH certainly doesn't have guys like Kevin Kolb or Case Keenum. I am not sure we'll even have basketball-on-grass games with crazy high scores.

I'll certainly cheer on Houston all the while. All I care about is UH beating Rice.

Did 'ya ever have one of those days where you just want to literally scream ... WTF ?!?!?!

That's me about now. OSU, well they are back in the news ... again.

The Ohio State University has suspended RB Carlos Hyde (not dismissed as some have claimed). Carlos was involved in a weekend altercation where he "supposedly" was named as a person of interest in a weekend assault against a female in a Downtown Columbus bar.

Aaannnddd, as an added lets add more to the OSU woes, cornerback Bradley Robey was arrested this past weekend for an altercation / assault charge against a security guard in Chicago. He is facing preliminary charges of misdemeanor battery resulting in bodily injury.

Aaannnddd, two promising freshmen prospects are also on the hot seat.

Marcus Baugh (TE), like Hyde, was removed from all team activities and will also sit out the first game of the season, Aug. 31 vs. Buffalo, for his arrest last weekend for underage possession of alcohol and possessing a fake identification. His actions will also result in the loss of his financial aid this summer.

Tim Gardner (DL), was sent home and will not be a part of the 2013 team after he was charged Saturday night by Columbus police with obstruction of official business. Not sure about the reports of this being tied into the situation concerning Carlos Hyde.

Said Coach Meyer of the situations :

"I have a clear set of core values in place that members of this football program are constantly reminded of and are expected to honor," Meyer said in a statement issued by Ohio State late on Monday afternoon. "There are also expectations with regard to behavior. I expect our players to conduct themselves responsibly and appropriately and they will be held accountable for their actions."

Jeeeeebus .......

Well, we still have Jordan Hall and we have hometown boy Brionte Dunne to help fill Hydes shoes ... outcome pending of course. But the bigger blow, I think, is the Bradley Robey deal. Damn, our secondary needs this guy.

Full story with some attached links.

Big 10 Media Days start on Wednesday. It will be interesting to see what gets said about this.

In all honesty you can expect that with Urban Meyer he's a good coach but his quality of student athlete leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to discipline and doing the right thing. Florida was a mess when he was there...tons of failed drug tests and incidents.

But he wins so I guess he can keep blaming it on the guys and not himself being their coach. I honestly think he will leave OSU when Braxton leaves...look at his past tenures. He's never really stayed anywhere more than 3-4 years.

^
We'll see what happens. I am hoping all this crap clears out and we can get onto football without all this media crap again. As if we need this. :ouch:

Meyers contract is good through '17, so we got him for a few more years. The biggest thing about being a successful OSU coach and job retention .....

You gotta be able to beat that team from up North (as it is called).

Hopefully he does stay there for a while but I would be surprised.

Yeah haha I figured beating Michigan would be a big deal there. It's sort of a big deal here to beat Clemson though I would much rather do other things like win the SEC.

We're talking about most of the major conferences... except one. Anyone up for some Pac-12 talk? Oregon probably isn't going to be much a factor because of the sanctions against them. I still think USCal and Stanford may be the usual suspects to be the best in the west. However, part of me wants to believe Washington could be a team to look out for in the Pac-12 this season.

Anyone want to chat Pac-12 and who might be the team(s) to watch this coming season?

If we ever get another huge spell of realignment, we had better end up with this, click the link its worth it

Now time for the annual predict your teams season post, my team is known as the Men of Troy, USC.

Aug. 29 (Th.) -- at Hawaii Win

Sept. 7 -- Washington State Win

Sept. 14 -- Boston College Win

Sept. 21 -- Utah State Win

Sept. 28 -- at Arizona State Win

Oct. 10 (Th.) -- Arizona Win

Oct. 19 -- at Notre Dame Loss

Oct. 26 -- Utah (Trojan Family Weekend) Win

Nov. 1 (Fr.) -- at Oregon State Win

Nov. 9 -- at California Win

Nov. 16 -- Stanford (Homecoming/Reunion Weekend) Win

Nov. 23 -- at Colorado Win

Nov. 30 -- UCLA Win

11-1 into the Pac-12 Championship vs. Oregon, where I think the Ducks win, sending the to the National Championship to face Alabama while USC gets into the Rose Bowl to face Ohio State, where we win to bring glory back to Los Angeles.

Also, what are everybodies thoughts on the Division 4 we may be getting soon?

I've always admired the USC Football Program, but last years results (7-6) left sort of a doubt in my mind as to what the Men of Troy are capable of this year. Granted, I amongst a lot of others had USC picked as a pre-season favorite to win it all last year, instead ... well... ???

(IMO) - The '13 Trojans have their work cut out for them .... coaching changes, the HUGE loss of QB Matt Barkley, WR Robert Woods is gone (you still have Marqis Lee 👍), Safety TJ Mcdonald is gone, CB Nickell Robey is gone. The Trojans took some hits. Combined with a new Coaching Staff and undecided QB to lead the offense, I just can't see them being a dominant force in the PAC 12 ..... sorry bud. :guilty: I see Oregon and Stanford going at it for the Title of the PAC 12 ...... winnner - Rose Bowl bound against my OSU Bucks or Joeys Wolverines.

BTW - named added to the OP as a Man of Troy. :P

Thought Oregon was on a post season ban?

No, they were cleared. They are allowed to play post season ball. (LINK)
